Really? I played that game every week for years until it died in 2017ish and I don’t recall this ever happening. Nobody does a time pot in big bet games anyway since the blinds are so small that if it’s a raise and take it there won’t be enough, that’s more of a limit thing at 75/150 and higher where you already have the sufficient amount for a full table’s time in the blinds themselves.
I think what sdfsgf is thinking of is time flop which is each seat being assigned a card 1-9 (with 1 being an Ace) and whichever card is on the leftmost side of the first flop is the seat that pays for everyone. Problem with this is you need a gentleman’s agreement because it’s so easy for someone to say “Oh I was about to leave anyway” or sometimes everyone but one or two people miss what the card was with conflicting memories. Not really an east coast thing though (I think I saw it happen maybe like twice a year in the foxwoods 5/10, definitely not the standard protocol). The Rio in Vegas during the WSOP is the one major place where it was assumed by the dealers and staff that everyone was doing a time flop.
Lately bomb pots have been more popular for collecting time anyway, impossible to angleshoot it/have controversy and is a way to juice up the action at the start of every new half.
