No details at all and I am concerned as we had a November 23rd date written in stone but no sites have been promoting anything like the WSOP.com did in Vegas a year before it opened.

bringing ladyfriend over weekend (fri-sun). she doesn't gamble and i guess she knows the rules of poker but never played online or played at a casino or anything. doubt she'll gamble.

any suggestions for stuff to keep her busy? i was thinking of letting her sweat me but uhhh i think that would make me really uncomfortable and i like to change tables pretty often.

if i find out she's decent i would freeroll her in one of those dailys...

Borgata has a great spa, pretty easy to kill a day there. Good pools as well, particularly if you are at Water Club. There is a huge area of outlet stores in AC by the Convention Center that could keep her busy awhile (actually pretty nice area). You can take jitney there or cab, it's like a two minute ride basically. Borg has lots of bars also to just hang in, but not sure you want her hanging at bars by herself.

For poker, she could play 2-4 or something and maybe have fun since it's low pressure and usually friendly I'm sure (vs no limit). Plus bbj is huge.

Do not have her sweating you. One of the more annoying behaviors observed in the poker room is the dopey guy who has his girlfriend sitting in a chair behind him taking up space. Number one, it's distracting for you, for the other players, and the dealer. Number two, she will be clogging up traffic flow around the table. Number three you can't play effectively when your attention is divided between playing poker and keeping a bored human sitting in a chair behind you entertained. Number four the players to your immediate left and right will be hating on you for being so stupid.

Zooming out a bit, it is reasonably inconsiderate on your part to bring someone you are dating/loving/whatever to a casino, when the underlying assumption/reality is that you will gamble and she will not. I mean, if you are going to play for an hour between other entertainment, fine. But to anticipate 5-10 hours/day of gambling while the spouse/gf is trying to "stay busy"? Dumb. Waste of time. Usually ends up not being much fun for either party. If you are on a trip with your gf, the focus should be on having fun... with each other. Not degenning while she is wandering around a property whose raison d'etre is an activity that she doesn't participate in.

i go down with my lady friend (now my wife) a few times a year and she sits by the pool while i play. she enjoys sitting by a pool with her kindle having a glass of wine and a snack for a long while. then we hang out in the evenings and then i play a bit again after she goes to bed.

if you're girl is a reader who enjoys relaxing by a pool, borgata has a nice pool (waterclub even nicer and no kids).

lots to do around city if girl likes independently going around. the outlets are huge... can take up a lot of time. nice small aquarium. light house.

This is extremely dumb. Don't listen to this.

I don't understand how someone sitting behind you could be distracting to the other players and dealer. Are the people sitting the next table over distracting? Are the people walking by the slot machines distracting?

I also don't know about this "traffic flow". I play sitting down, as do most people. Anytime i need to "flow" around one extra chair shouldn't confuse me too much.

Not sure what the comment about players on the immediate left and right is supposed to mean. Horrible post.

this never bothers me though i assume someone with a gf sweating them is usually a fish or nit until they prove otherwise.

i think it would annoy me more than anyone else.

not like she's doing anything else this weekend. i don't even really like playing live poker that much but gotta eat ya know. i mean, i do consider this my job. we can get hammered at night or something.

leaving at her pool suggestion is good. decent chance i just won't take her.

It is distracting. The dope who brings the gf is usually tied up with talking to her and keeping her "amused" and he slows up the game. Meanwhile watching some godforsaken spouse yawning while her idiot SO is playing poker and drinking? Distracting. Dumb. And the player on each side? How many times have I had to go through extra trouble to protect my hand because the dopey girlfriend is sitting behind her BF, and therefore behind me. It's annoying. Then you back up to throw away a coffee cup or otherwise get up and stretch and your chair crashes into some half-asleep human who really shouldn't be there in the first place. Finally when a seat opens up, the dopey GF attempts to occupy an empty seat at the table until getting expelled by the dealer when he absentmindedly deals her a hand for the third time.

The takeaway from all this? Nobody needs your spouse, or your friends, or anyone else for that matter, loitering around the table. ESPECIALLY IN A SEAT! Get rid of them. I guarantee you that other people at the table are thinking this but are too polite to tell you what a tool you are.

By the way, I have utilized the boyfriend/girlfriend model to explain this. But in this day and age I have seen the reverse. So it could be a girl playing with her BF sitting behind her. Or even just friends sitting behind friends. Doesn't matter. Nobody should be seated at a poker table except the players and the dealer.

Everyone else is persona non grata and needs to leave.

Since you wrote that "nobody" needs friends of players around the table I will tell you that you are wrong. I welcome other players bringing their spouse/girlfriend/whatever to watch them play. Almost always it makes for a pleasant experience and barely impacts the flow of the game. And I don't care if they are near me - I know how to look at and protect my cards.

On the very few occasions when it created an issue I politely said something and the situation was easily resolved.

Fwiw I always make room for people to have their gfs sweat them even if it means giving myself less room. Gets the bf who's invariably a fish to stay longer and may get the girl to try playing as well.

There were a few regs at 2/5 Venetian in LV who play there everyday and are friends and will sweat eachother after sessions. That makes me extremely uncomfortable...feels like I'm playing multiple people.

It is only a problem when the SO clearly doesn't want to be there and is obviously bored out of their mind and falling asleep, etc.

A girlfriend at this point would be neg EV to my marriage, but thanks for the suggestion. However, if I were single and wound way too tight for living, that would not change the impropriety of incarcerating my GF in a chair behind me at a poker table. C'mon there is no defense for this. It is stupid and that's that.

I do concur with the general observation that guys who do this are never good players. Probably not much good as boyfriends either. And the GFs involved are only eye candy about 5% of the time. So only rarely is there some ancillary positive environmental EV there.

When you come to play cards in a public room, leave your crew home, in whatever form that may take. They can stop by and sweat a hand or two. On foot. But don't be a tool and have someone sitting behind you. It's just bad.
