I've been thinking a lot about my poker-future post-black-Friday over the last month or so, and am considering becoming a weekend Borgata tournament grinder. I'm trying to formulate a budget for said weekend, assuming I brick everything I play.

From what I can tell on the website, it would cost me $860 to play in all the scheduled tournaments from the $80 late Friday to the $100 on 3pm on Sunday.

What do you think is reasonable to assume for a budget for a 2-night stay plus food plus travel from DC and back to DC.

Tips on cheap places to stay close to the Borgata, and the cheapest way to get from DC to AC, would be fantastic. Thanks for any/all help!

Has to be the most enjoyable couple of hours I had playing 'poker'this year. Thanks so much to the Borgata for having this event!

I think you're making a big misjudgment if you think slow, high-rake, small stakes live donkaments are a good venue to "grind".

If you're just doing it for fun because you enjoy poker tournaments, ok.... But if you're talking about keeping your expenses low so you can spend +EV weekends in AC... Play cash.

After four months of downtime, which included Vegas and paying my dues, I finally returned to the Borgata for some quick action. It's still the same familiar poker room I've come to enjoy. Though I, too, noticed some tables with new felt and the Bravo card system installed. Played 1-2 NLHE and 1-2 PLO and left empty-handed via bad luck.

Busted out my $120 1-2 NLHE with A-Q off. A player from my left made a $15 pre-flop bet and I called from early position. Heads-up on the flop with A-7-4 rainbow, I made a pair of aces with a nice kicker and decided to bet pot-size. I faced a min-raise from the player and later decided to push all-in. Player insta-called and showed that he flopped two-pair with A-4. **sighs** What a lucky flop... Later in 1-2 PLO, I busted out from being blinded out with crappy cards and getting killed with a higher set than mine.

Though, the PLO highlight of the night was with a Borgata regular on seat 7, whom I saw regularly at the 2-5 NLHE tables, had a New York accent and looked like former NBCUniversal executive Jeff Zucker. (Look Jeff up on Google Images so you know what I mean.) He and two other guys seated between him (all on seats 6, 7 and 8) made a deal before the card dealing to go all-in and asked rest of us to fold our hands. Obviously we were all pissed because we wanted to keep the game moving.

Despite the madness, that seat 7 dude (IIRC sat after the big blind) pushed his remaining $135 pre-card deal and firmly blind pots. The game kept moving after the deal and he finally faced a re-pot from seat 9 who also didn't look. While everyone else folded, seat 7 re-potted for a virtual all-in. Seat 9 called him.

At showdown, the board was Q-A-10 J 8

Seat 7 finally revealed best two pair with Q-J.
Seat 9 finally revealed that he flopped broadway!

All was well after seat 7 left.

That was fun. Will be back next Saturday once my room and my guests get squared away.

Sorry Stan, I hope you are ok considering . You're a true pro something you rarely see in the casino industry. Wish there was something we could do.

First, I'd like to send my deepest condolences to Stan and his family.

Second, a little TR: made it down to the B on Saturday night, and put in a 7 hour session at 2/5 NLH. It was a frustrating session. My first table was awesome, but I got no piece of the three maniacs who gave their stacks away, rebought and gave them away again. After those three busted and left, the table tightened and I moved across the room. My new table was awesome, with two more maniacs, 3-4 passive calling stations, and 4 competent players. We took turns chopping up the bad players, but I was never able to build anything and left around 1 AM break even.

The best part of the session was the very end. I had struck up a rapport with the player to my left, a gregarious man who was relentlessly hitting on every female dealer who came to the table, to no avail. Earlier in the day, I had posted on facebook that I'd be heading for the B. 5 of my coworkers, all attractive women, were spending the night at the Water Club; they had seen my fb post and decided to come look for me in the poker room. They found me just as I was racking up, and they all looked gorgeous in their party dresses. I greeted them all with hugs and kisses and told them to meet me at the racetrack bar, that I would buy a round after I cashed out. I reached for my racks and as I left the table, my gregarious table mate fixed me with wide eyes and said "teach me." Best laugh of the night.

Looking forward to the $100k this weekend. See you all there.

Stan,

I just wanted to express my sincere condolences over your loss. I wish the best to you and your family over this time of grief.

On a lighter note, I just wanted to let you know that I was a long time Taj player, and after this weekend, I've officially converted

I know its been said a few times already, but you and your family are definitely in my prayers. I sent you an email last week without knowing your situation, and even with your heavy heart, you still got back to me this morning.

All the best to you and your family, Stan.
