I think he means that the cat was already out of the bag after his initial reaction of shock and silence to Skylar's educated guess that he was dealing.

Although I do agree that saying he was only into weed would ultimately give her a little less leverage.

I think the whole idea was that Walt felt he needed to entirely come clean to hopefully win her to his side.

I mean, there was a hell of a lot about this opener (and this tv show in general) that is incredibly clichéd in general, and that's pretty annoying. The explosion scene, for one. Having said that, I like pretty much everything else about it. Casting is mostly great (I don't like Skylar much, nor Hank), acting is spot-on from Jesse and Walt, and I think Walt Jr is good as well, the plot is kooky and interesting enough to have had me watch season 2 in about 3 days, and the general production values are pretty strong. I like!

i really like the cinematography for this show. it's really good for a cable tv show. this show and madmen are in a league of their own.

QFT. While everything else about these two shows is awesome, the aesthetics just blow everything else on tv away.

Ep 9 of last season was especially gorgeous.
03-23-2010 , 12:52 AM

i acually liked walt jr. this episode - i lol'd when he said 'no one's telling me jack **** around here!'
03-23-2010 , 12:56 AM
i was unaware that the guy that plays walt jr actually has cerebral palsy and talks like that
03-23-2010 , 12:57 AM
why why why would they finish this episode with the cigarette/walking

fsadojgfhsdaljhfsd.

are they just giving other shows a chance?

"I've come to accept who I am."
"And who are you?"
"I'm the bad guy."

For the same reason they finished the last season with an airliner collision over Walt's swimming pool.

This show is now about metaphorical representation.

If you're willing to suspend your disbelief and accept what they are trying to do, the show takes on a whole new level of brilliance.

It's minor thing but it really stands out in what is an otherwise well-written show.

Thought last night was pretty good but didn't do much to define the path this season will take beyond what we could already assume going into this season.

Wtf, fust because you kept your father's name doesn't mean that it's stupid that he doesn't want to. Is your name as dumb as Walter? If it was, maybe you'd want to change it to. It's common for teenagers to do weird **** like that anyway. I thought it was actually pretty good writing.

Didn't know he was nominated, good for him. He should have probably won.

I love the cinematography too, but it's a little bit too in your face. It screams, "hey look, I'm really talented and can make this scene look extra cool." It's fine because they do a great job, but it shouldn't be what you notice in the scene, and a lot of the time it is.

From the Sepinwall/Gilligan interview:

Quote:
that moment, at the end of season two, he doesn't realize it, but he's responsible for the whole world figuratively coming to an end around him. It's not deus ex machina, there's another term we were talking about, Lucifer ex machina, "Devil from the machine"
Coupled with the truck explosion scene, it seems as though the Brothers Mute are supposed to represent some sort of demonic angels resurrected from the fiery depths of hell...or something

Also the other scenes with Walt torching his own money and unintentionally igniting himself... Jesse sitting around the camp fire with the poetically opportune flare-up...

This is what I was thinking throughout the episode. It kind of looked like they weren't worried about the explosion hurting them because they knew they were protected from it or something.

Well yeah, if you didn't catch the rest of the series/watch the premier/read the interview/use your brain/etc, then I can understand how you would think that.

i understand the metaphors (it's not exactly tale of two cities) but i don't think the character themselves believe they're sent from the devil.

Yeah, when you're semi-caught in a huge lie there's always a part of you that thinks that coming 100% clean will help get everything behind you. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't, obviously didn't happen here (at least not in that scene), but I can see why he did it.

The guys who play the brothers are/were full-on gangsters IRL, btw. One of them has tattoos on his eyelids (they say **** YOU). He said the hardest part wasn't the tattooing, it was the spoons they stick in your eyes to keep the eyelids taut.

The ending of this episode was not metaphorical it was literal. The cartel is coming after Walter, one could argue it is about his some cosmic payback for all his sins, but I prefer the literal interpretation if you **** with drug dealers they will try to kill you.

I didn't have a problem with ending S2 with a metaphor the problem is it is a incredibly overt metaphor, that was only foreshadowed to create a cliffhanger.
03-23-2010 , 10:51 AM
I took this episode as the forces are aligning against Walt's leaving the drug biz by making a clean break - the mexicans drug cartle have targeted him, mr pollo is offereing big dollars, his wife looks gone no matter what, jesse is focused on being the bad guy - by selling drugs.

He will have a hard time overcoming all of this.

I also feel it was literal... kind of to give the audience a view into how these guys think and act, and that its that they dont. They will kill anyone in their way to Walt and its setting it up for the audience to realize theres no mercy for Walt. How they develop this will be tricky though because it kind of sucks that we as the audience know that Walt's character isnt going anywhere.

Also, I know its been pointed out about the cinematography, but honestly this **** is amazing. Specifically two I would like to point out, and the first is the color schemes they went with during every scene with the brothers. The second is the darkness of Walt's apartment and even more specifically when Jessie told walt hes the bad guy he had a shadow over half his face and was looking up straight into Walt's eyes. Just thought it was really well done.

Maybe they believe they're sent from the devil, maybe they dont. What is clear is that they have one mission in mind, and dont think of anything else. They wouldnt have earned the reputation they have if they werent crazy. The scene in the back of the truck shows that. That young loud mouth knew he was dead as soon as he recognized what was on their shoes.
