He does have Cerebral Palsy, but his symptoms are milder than what he plays in the show. He makes it much more pronounced for his character.

lol yeah, might wanna rewatch if you think we haven't seen him...

Also, mods or whoever, lets start a new thread for this season, this one is long and cluttered and it *might* stop people from posting in it if they are overwhelmed or w/e

I watched it again and picked up a little detail. When Walt puts the cash in the grill and starts to light it, the matchbook is advertising for Saul's business and the inside of the book say's, "Better Call Saul."

You don't feel that they've spent an unusual amount of effort depicting just how "invincible" these "ultra-badasses" are?

That, on top of the already unrealistic direction the show seems to be taking after the over-the-toply obvious air disaster metaphor makes me think twice of any literal interpretation.

From Alan Sepinwall's blog:

Quote:
The Cousins are played, in fact, by a pair of brothers, only one of whom had any acting experience: Luis Moncada (the actor) and his brother Daniel (the rookie). Basically, they loved Luis's audition and asked if he had any relatives who looked like him. Both have screen presence to burn, as well as the self-possession to not flinch when the truck blew up. I asked Gilligan about that scene, just to confirm my assumption that it was a practical special effect and not something created later by computers. Vince wrote:

"No CG! That was definitely a practical effect, Alan -- the two Cousins were sixty feet from the truck when it blew up (although it looks like they were even closer than that due to the long lens which was used on the camera). All that flaming stuff you see raining down around them -- and even in FRONT of them, if you look closely enough -- was truly there, and not added in afterwards. I'm so proud of Luis and Daniel Moncada for the way they pulled that off. Bryan Cranston, their director, told them we'd get only one take at it, so they'd better not flinch... and by God, they didn't!"

Loved that this show is back.

I think they did a good job of explaining the crash.

This show does a great job of taking the viewer off the predictable course.

They are invincible because they killed a bunch of unarmed illegal immigrants and a crippled old man?

that blog quote is badass

Loved the opener, except for Walt burning the money, c'mon!

I think it was a very plausible thing. He's DIRECTLY responsible for the death of 168 (flight+chick), DIRECTLY because he got involved in drug-making. This money is DIRECTLY tainted by all those deaths in his mind. I wouldn't do it, but if you can't understand the dilemma he was having, a lot is going to be lost on you this season. That's his way of quitting. Then, he moves on to rationalizing it (as showed by the great speech at the gym. Am I the only one who was in full agreement with him? Bunch of whiny kids).

Come on you know exactly what I’m talking about. Nice lazy strawman though.

You know that I’m referring to the scene where they seem oblivious to the huge explosion and massive inferno raging behind them + their general calm/cool/collectedness + their willingness to do whatever necessary without even a shadow of a flinch.

Oh yeah, and that whole crawling worshipy religious opening scene to kick things off..

I just don’t buy that you don’t also consider it unusual and unnecessary to depict random criminals in said manner, especially in a show that ended it’s second season with a blatant metaphor that you yourself have already conceded.
03-23-2010 , 10:27 PM
no. just no. it's just for show. do you think the scene would look just as cool if they flinched or ducked? do you think every character in a movie that walks away from an explosion without looking/flinching believe they have supernatural powers? c'mon, you're reading too much into it. i agree that they have great focus, but that doesn't mean they think they're completely invulnerable or anything.

I’m not at all implying that they actually possess “supernatural powers” in any sense of the real world. Do you understand what a metaphor is?

Do you also buy that it was just 'random coincidence' that the writers intended when they decided to collide two planes over Walt’s house?

oh okay, i misread your posts. i actually agree with you in that the director made it a point to have them represent angels of death. i just thought you thought the characters themselves believed they were invincible.

Haha it's definitely not easy to explain my perspective without coming off like a complete lunatic. I've tried to use quotes wherever possible including "invincible".

Do you think it's a coincidence that a chemistry teacher became a meth dealer? Obviously the whole show is an incredibly subversive look at the education system.

Not at all. That seems to flow perfectly without any logical leaps whatsoever. No metaphor needed. Let's not forget he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and had a family to look after.

Are you really trying to compare that with a perfectly placed airline collision?

give it a rest. breaking bad is like gossamer, and one does not dissect gossamer.

Cool, yeah same for me. I thought it was kinda funny how they seemed to answer a lot of harshest criticisms that I read in this thread following S2. I wonder if they did take that to heart when they wrote the script...

I have more of a problem with this...

...than this. I guess it was cheap, but whatever, it's their show, they can do what they want. It just sort of bothered me that people were acting as though they were cheated, were owed something more or something better, and that they were quitting on the show because of it. Seemed really silly.

And this. Plus I wanted to give them a chance to explain it, I mean it's not like the series was over. There's obviously more to the story coming.
