Yeah, why would you want to watch the TV show you're watching?

Oh, I did, too. Walt's arrogance is going to be his downfall-- he just assumes he can outsmart and bull**** everybody, and he'd better wise up to what he's dealing with in a hurry.

It's after Leonel dies and all the cops are looking into the room-- they quickly focus in the foreground and show Mike, only for a couple of seconds.

It's not that Giancarlo Esposito doesn't have "emotional range", it's that Gus is a consummate professional, a hard and ruthless businessman, and he projects that extremely well. If he were emotional in his line of work, he would have been dead a long time ago.

I'm not trying to say his demeanor isn't appropriate for the character, I'm arguing that portraying a character like with such a limited amount of screen time doesn't give you the chance to be the best actor on the show.

Betsy Brandt did a good job in this last episode, too. I thought the dirty fork setup for Walt was great. I'm pitching AMC for a spinoff when it ends, Gus & Saul 2012: What to Wear When the World Ends

you know how you realize how good breaking bad is ? when you go to blockbuster or look at the theater listings and everything looks so blah

Couldn't agree more. Gus is awesome, but doesn't have the screen time or the character development to be even close to best actor on the show.

Also Bryan Cranston is best actor on tv period imo.

+1 for a Gus spin off.

I think I posted this earlier itt, but if Hamm doesn't win for The Gypsy and The Hobo I don't see how he will ever win. I also don't see how Cranston can give a better performance than Hamm in The Gypsy and The Hobo.

Award shows are fun to follow but I don't know how much stock you want to be in them. At this year's Golden Globes Cranston, Paul, and Breaking Bad all weren't even nominated.

Awards shows are complete bull****. Remember when "Frasier" won best comedy like six years in a row?

And yet, the Emmys still aren't as bull**** as the Grammys.

hey, i was just standing up for cranston, and it was some ammo to use

this is a valid point, but your comments about "emotional range" aren't true; I think Gus communicates a lot with very little expression.

Is it arrogance? I always think naivety. He seems to be the classic booksmart-but-impossibly-dumb-in-real-life guy that everybody knows.

[ ] award shows always get it right.

the best show ever (The wire) never won a single emmy.

uh what? Aaron Paul has been pretty much a terrible actor and I cringe at most of his scenes. Only time he's good is when he adds bitch in comical fashion to the end of his lines.

and to the people liking his dialogue in the last show, where he had two heated speeches... that's the same guy that in this episode walked into the new meth lab and said something along the lines of "whoa it's like... SHINY!" and proceeded to use the air to balloon up his suit. That's why I can't buy that the same person that acts so childish and absent-minded would give those speeches.
05-11-2010 , 08:40 PM
Everyone seems to be forgetting that Jesse is clean, even refusing his painkillers, and made meth ~equal to that of the meth master Heisenberg out of an RV without any help. He's not THAT much of a gamble. If he starts using again and is a problem he won't be missed and in the meantime Gus KNOWS he knows the meth chemistry.

See I think it's the opposite. Jesse is making his power play last episode, but he is still that same idiot who is impressed by shiny things and dicks around with toys in the lab. He needs to speak in cliches, because that is all he knows, the dialogue felt derivative because it was supposed to be.

Just because it was supposed to feel derivative doesn't mean it wasn't awful.
