k got all but Jokes' now, and as i don't think he's reading this thread as an angle, i'll just post the FA list in a few minutes when i finish making it.

i noticed I have Rich Harden along with Joe Nathan for $5 for 2011 when he was cut from another team for a higher salary. So i'm gonna need Karak/Pecota to make the decision about if the new rule about in season waiver wire pickups (Taking the highest of their salaries as the one to carry over) should apply to this year's keepers. The alternative resolution would be that they can't be kept past 2011.

edit:

also Sergsz, Lee would be $38 in 2011 not $40, my b.

I wonder who's going to have the biggest 2010 value - 2011 value? I'm leaning towards Vazquez, but then there's Brian Roberts. Or Figgins, yikes. What a disaster.

I think the rule primetime proposed sounds good. It keeps the waiver wire from being so powerful (like if there's a tie or a low-ball on a coveted player) and lessens the impact of mid-season injury dumps for big names. Plus, if the contract is too expensive for that owner the following year, they can always just release the player into FA and re-bid on him there. I have no issue with the rule if the majority is in favor (seems to be the case).

I would ask, do we want to put a limit on values affected by the rule? Just throwing that out there.

Also, I have no problem whatsoever with Exit keeping Nathan at $5 for 2011 and having his contract behave like any other player, according to whatever rules we end up putting in place this offseason. The only reason he went for $5 is because no one else wanted him or noticed him hit the wire that week (I certainly would have bid on him if I had seen it, but I just didn't notice. As far as I know, there weren't any outages that week either, so tough break there). That stuff happens sometimes, so I don't think Exit should feel any pressure to make a special exception here.

The payroll adjustment stuff will need to be discussed further, as I haven't really had much time to think about it and there definitely seems to be a wide interest and multiple ideas. I'd definitely like to have a detailed discussion on those ideas soon.

Note that this change would hurt me more so than most, but I don't think it's fair that if Delmon turns into 30 hrs .350/.550 that I should be able to have him for under $14 for the next decade. Rookies should be the best value.

I agree with the sentiment that rookie's should have the lowest/best contracts in the league. I also agree that just because a guy gets picked up for $4 off the scrap heap, he's still may be a veteran player and would get a significant raise IRL if he blew the doors off during a one-year deal or was eligible for arbitration the following year.

Of the ideas posted by you guys so far, I think Exit's proposed restructuring of the rookie pay increases is the cleanest way to compensate for this concern. While that would address the rookie question, it sort of side-steps the Delmon Young scenario. I'm not sure how to approach that one, since I agree with Thayer's point, but I'm also hesitant to endorse a big addition to the current 5% annual pay increase (maybe somewhere between 5 and 10?).

I feel that if you were to institute an higher annual pay increase across the board, yes it would compensate for the Delmon's, but it would also have a possibly undesired effect of jacking up All-Star contracts that much more, when those players are already being paid accordingly and thus see significant increases each year already.

I'm sort of terrible at formulating these types of things, so I tend to look at real-life contracts for guidance, though this doesn't necessarily translate well to fantasy leagues. I can't think of an idea right now that I like enough to post here though.

I'm not against instituting a new salary rule for 2011, but it would be tricky since we've already done add/drops largely based on salaries, so any changes would have to be sort of shoehorned in. It's doable though.

Karak, what was your brilliant idea on this? Exams are over, so we can go back to just calling you lazy if you ignore the league now.

bump.

Things we need to do:
Set date for Free Agency to start
Set date for Minor League Draft to start
Make some trades.

I'm weak at C, 2b and OF, and am willing to move pretty much anyone. 3 aces (Halladay, Greinke, Johnson), 4 closers (Soria, Bell, Nathan ($5 for one year), Putz($5), a handful of bargain value players (Corey Hart $17, Furcal $12, Magglio $11, Rolen $6) and some rebuilding youth (Josh Bell, Desmond Jennings and to a lesser extent Avila, Runzler and Forsythe)

and the salary adjustments for 2012 should be decided on soon. still waiting on karak's ideas.

The start or February seems like a good time to pinpoint the start of Free Agency to me. I think we had talked about waiting for the Minor League draft until after BA top 100 was released, or maybe I just thought that up myself I dont know.

Have you heard from Primetime?

He's paid up through this season, so we just try to sell his team for the most we can and refund him whatever we have left?

Anyone know someone that wants it?
