I should have asked this earlier, but I just assumed I read it properly. By "this week," you meant April 18-24, right? If not, could I still make a transaction as a free add/drop if I do it tonight?

nah i meant that this processing (3rd time so far) was the last one for that. i think it's fine if you want to drop someone tonight and count as one of those.

EDIT:

Actually, you only have 2 DL eligble players, and 22 active/6 reserve. So you can't drop anyone imo.

Yeah, I just realized that I'd have to add someone to keep 30 (numbers are tough). For some reason I thought I'd be over the limit once my DL guys came back, so I won't be making any changes after all.

Trade Announcement

Pecota Receives:

Chase Headley ($9)
Jonathan Sanchez ($16)
2011 3rd Round Pick

Sergsz Receives:

Carlos Lee ($36)
2011 2nd Round Pick
$18 to be applied to Lee's 2010 salary

Can either Karak or Exit please confirm the proper pro-rated salary rates are being applied here? I'm currently working under the assumption that this trade will officially take place on April 21 at 5:10pm and am counting total games completed by each player's team at that time. I also used the same rounding rule we used for the salary adjustments, rounding a salary up from .50 to the nearest whole. If my interpretation of the league trade guidelines needs to be tightened up, just say so (you too, sergsz).

Lee: 13 G * ($36 / 162 G) = $2.88 = $3.00

Sanchez: 14 G * ($16 / 162 G) = $1.38 = $1.00

Headley: 14 G * ($9 / 162 G) = $.77 = $1.00

Remaining 2010 Salaries at Time of Trade:

Lee ($33)
Sanchez ($15)
Headley ($8)

Personally i think prorating just needlessly adds complications. what's wrong with if you trade for a player, you get his whole contract regardless the time of year?

I agree with Exit. Though in this case, if it doesn't end up being prorated, I want the extra buck from Pecota that I otherwise would have gotten (since the prorated buck was one of his selling points in negotiation). Pending Pecota's agreement obviously.

Pecota,
I'd give you Sheets ($19) and Mark DeRosa ($9) for Lee. You'd only need to toss in $8 and I don't care about moving up in the draft.

edit:

I'm allowed to offer for those players in the 48 hour window aslong as i do it publicly right? this is how we're making sure trades are fair instead of a veto system right?

This would be totally fine with me, I was just going by how it was written in the league constitution. Although, if you eliminate prorating in trades, that would have an impact on trades made later in the season when a lot more salary would potentially be on the line (although any prorating could be negotiated on a case-by-case basis between the owners).

Either way is fine with me, just as long as the official rule remains consistent.

I also agree with a revision to the trade to make up for any loss of prorated salary. So instead of $18, you would then get $21 and be responsible for Lee's entire $36 contract (as I would be for your two players), correct?

I think you only need to give me $19 to make it the same as under the prorated system (since I would have had to contribute $1 for headly and sanchez each). Though i am not sure if that's correct, and I will certainly be happy to take the extra $2 that I tried so hard to bargain for.

Yes, that would be correct in order to keep the payout the same as under the prorated version. That would be cool with me, is that how we're going to do it?

Just as long as everything lines up properly with the rules, that's the main thing I'm concerned about here, since this is the first mid-season trade to be made. Exit's statement towards dropping the prorating rule kind of threw me.

Yep - fine with me - $18 with proration and $19 without. I guess we'll just see how karak and maybe others weigh in about proration during the next 48 hrs, and then we'll just do it however the league decides.

Exit, can you please clarify your statement on prorating in trades? It doesn't appear to make a difference in this particular trade, but it sounds like you want to change the rules (which is fine, just needs to be voted on at some point). If anyone else wants to chime in on the topic, feel free. For reference, here's the trade section I was referring to:

If neither team accepts a counter-offer, after 48 hours the trade becomes official, pending commissioner and/or league approval.

If you acquire a player via trade, you acquire that player’s remaining salary and must pay it. Likewise, the team trading the player away will no longer have to pay that salary, unless there is an agreement. The same rules apply to renewing the contracts as they did to the original team. It is acceptable for teams to “take on” salary when trading a player, just like real life, with no one taking an extra cap hit.

Rookie draft picks may be traded for players.

Im on board with this fwiw.

Prorating the salary is just one extra thing to keep up with, and I dont see it adding any real special wrinkle to the league.

Fair enough. The prorating is sort of redundant anyway since the two owners can basically negotiate whatever salary terms they choose. Technically we're supposed to get a majority vote on any changes to the rules, but I'd like to just let the trade go through under the proposed rule (no prorating) rather than delay it for a formality.

I know my team isn't that bad, but I'm sitting in a pretty big hole in last place right now. At this rate I'm going to have to fire my manager by the All Star break.
