For some reason I kept thinking of it. I wanted Lawrie, but you were too good to give him up. And yeah, Lonnie putting it together after I finally dropped him was inevitable.

Is ESPN acting weird for anyone else? won't let me bid on players right now. The Action column is blank.

Lol Russell Martin and all but if someone wants him as a second catcher or something, I'd just want a body at 2B

Just in case anyone is as confused as I was, Rack previously traded his 2nd and 3rd rd. picks to Ndfan, who is now trading those picks back to Rack in this new deal.

Seriously, Jesse Chavez on year 1 of a very cheap deal ought to be pretty enticing for contenders and rebuilders alike. Looking for closers / picks.

While we're tossing around pitchers who nobody seems to want, Justin Masterson is also available.

You guys have any rules about fielding a full roster? (starting players on the DL etc)

So if you wanted to get the first pick in the following years draft you can just not pay any attention to your team, and it s cool?

There is a $50 fee for finishing last, which is why I am trying hard for second last.

Semi-radical rule change proposal: any in-season pickups are contracts for that year only. Then the players are free agents. This gets rid of the mid-season pickup which is one part clever strategy, one part angle shoot: grabbing a guy for super cheap not because you need him, but because you think he might just turn out to be useful down the road, and then you've got a valuable asset on your hands, potentially for up to five years.

The main advantage is that the auction would get stocked with more players. Also, no one gets a massively valuable contract for five years thanks to a clairvoyant mid-season flyer. This is the only disadvantage, actually - taking out this strategy - if you think it's a good thing. Plus you're freed up to spend more of your leftover money during the season (of which there's often quite a bit) because you don't have to worry about the long-term ramifications of splurging.

Theoretically, the rule shouldn't be necessary, because in-season pickups are subject to an auction just like pre-season signings. But we all know that the in-season weekly auctions are much less competitive and guys slip through.

This is basically just the full extension of the rule we've voted to put in place about high-salary guys who get cut and then picked up mid-season.
