<tilting rant>

11 hdcp, still have never broken 80 and was my goal this year, play 4-5x a week, swing comes and goes....

this weekend shot 80, 82, 83 -- the 80 round had legit shot to break it needed to par last four holes (started on back so front 9 was last, have done it before)... bogeyed the first one but got on in 2 on par five and crapped my pants on eagle putt, still almost made birdie but disappointing par - next hole long par 3 ship it to 15 feet brick that birdie too, last hole long par 4 uphill, need birdie for 79 and oh hi hook drive into fescue, hack out, 8 iron stiff and par so disappointed

the 82 round needed to go par/birdie on last two holes, uphill par 3 made par so needed birdie on 18 which i've done eleventy billion times, always hit a huge drive on this hole with a nice fade, flag was up front too so it was go time - oh hi hook drive into trees, hack out, end up making double - could barely see straight on the tee box from being so god damn amped up about potentially breaking 80

really need to get to a point where i dont "need" to make anything on the last few holes but just so incredibly tilting to get sooooo close legitimately twice in one weekend and brick both (the 83 round was kind of an abortion, started with a 47 front and 36 back) - gotta keep plugging away....

Pulled out the clubs this morning as I'm going for a round after work and I have noticed that I left my sand wedge on a course on the weekend.

Called the course and they said no one turned it in. Now I have to go buy a new one. Quick reccomendations on what to hit? I'm not going to have a ton of time.

I like the Vokeys from Titleist, have seen plenty of people recommend Clevelands as well.

On a family vacation that I had nothing to do with planning. Threw my clubs in the car last minute just in case - turns out we're staying at a pretty nice place for golf in Cape Cod. I haven't played since Kauai tilted my life in early July. Probably going to use the opportunity to practice at the range and on the chipping/putting greens all weekend and forgo actually playing.

A couple random questions:

1. Thinking of joining a country club next year. I have never played the course before. I know a couple members socially but have never golfed with thm. Obviously I want to check ouht the course before applying. Standard protocol?

2. Still struggling with an over the top move. I want to get a lesson but not sure how to vette the area teachers. How do I confirm if someone is good/bad at teaching?

Unless it's Oakmont or something, call the club. Ask for the membership director. Have a pleasant conversation, explain to him/her that you have an interest in a golf membership. Possibly ask to stop by and talk to them.

Response will vary depending on how desperate they are for new members, but if you sound at all presentable on the phone (and don't give pr0n star or professional poker player as your occupation) chances are good you'll be invited to check out the facilities. As long as you discuss a golf membership, a chance to play the course should be standard.

imo.

Just add up your score once you've finished, so you're not keeping track of what you need to do to break 80. This way you're not thinking "omg I need to par the last three holes".

I'd either call the club like booker said or ask one of the members you know if they wouldn't mind hosting you for a round since your thinking of joining

Went to see the best club fitter in the area today (Boston). Putting a PX 7.0 shaft in my 8.5 degree R11 increased distance from 282 to 290, and hitting this year's RBZ head gave me another 8 yards up to 298. Was also flighting the ball much much more consistently, I just didn't have enough shaft in my driver (was a 70g rip aldila beta shaft). That's $450 down the drain. 16 yards and a more consistent trajectory is crazy though.

Also was hitting this year's Adams XTD 19 degree hybrid with a TourSPX 110g shaft 251 carry, 255 total vs 237 with a 104g proforce 17degree 585h. Forget the R11 crap I was using which was spinning off the planet. Probably another $400+ down the drain.

He said to get a driver/hybrid setup first, then figure out what you need for a 3/4wood to bridge the gap, so I'm gonna try that out.

Also, anyone played miura irons or wedges? They start at $225/club, and he said not to demo them unless you're ready to buy them, and I've heard similar things elsewhere.

90 minutes for $75 fitting was very reasonable, highly recommend anyone to get fit, stock shafts are garbage.

Which Model?!!! the black tournament blades are my dream set.(with some kbs tour black shafts) never tried them but i can understand what they meant. after demo you probably rob someone to get the money to pay for them if you didnt have it already. promised myself a set if i ever got to scratch. now if i can get on some kind of consistent routine for golf i might have to keep my promise.

I bought a set of Miura about 4 yrs. ago. Played 10 or 12 rounds with them and they've been in the closet ever since.
Will sale at a fair price. If anyone is interested, I'll pull them out and get some pics.
If memory serves, they were tournament blades,1/4" long, 1* upright.

I've got Pings. I hardly play, and I just feel like the Pings have more forgiveness on misses.

That video really makes me want to take a couple days off work, fly to Bandon, and play in that speedgolf tournament.

I have a good friend (the one that introduced me to Christopher) who is going down to Bandon to play the amateur flight of the speed tourney. Sounds like great fun, unless the wind is blowing 30 mph (which is definitely possible that time of year).

what 6 clubs do you put in the bag?

Never speed golfed but I would go with Driver, putter, 4i, 7i, PW, SW. Five clubs I'd drop the PW and make the 7i an 8i. Four clubs I'd use 3w, putter, 8i, SW.

I'd probably go D/4/6/8/GW/P.

With 5 clubs, D/4/7/GW/P.

With 4, probably D/6/PW/P, although if I hit my 3W and 5W better I'd probably take one of those instead of the driver.

Cleveland CG16. It will be your favorite club in your bag, in no time.

Rumor I heard at my club.

A guy, notorious for just being a total pain to play with, was playing with a fellow member. After 14 holes, the innocent member was playing great and had a chokehold on the match.

Scumbag member proceeds to accuse his opponent of a dishonest handicap and just cancelled the match and walked off the course (and not paying any bets).

I've been a member of a pretty nice country club in a well off town for my whole golfing life. I guess it just depends on the club, but I hear almost nothing of people playing each other in serious money matches. Most of the good players just play some friendly golf together.

Is crap like that common at other clubs?

This member is notorious for being a POS. Never heard of him dodging a bet but certainly know that he's just a pain to play with and the sentiment is shared by pretty much all membership (eg one member opted to not play the member member instead of getting paired with this guy).

Biggest game at our club uses umbrella scoring for $3 / point. Swings of a few hundred $. Not sure how that compares to other places
