nobody calls a 1-iron a driving iron. maybe they did one day but not any more.

currently, driving iron refers to a club that's like a hybrid but closer to an iron. they are good for people who can hit irons but can't hit a fairway with a wood.

Something considered a "driving iron" usually has more meat to it than a normal iron (cavity back or blade). I didn't look at Wiki, but this is how the term is used in today's golfing society/terminology.

Wanted to do a quick review of this app:

Nike Golf 360 - iPhone

Overall I'm pleased, it's a free app anyway.

When you click the app, after it loads you're taken to this screen:



which shows your average score, then a circular graph showing frequency of Eagles, Birdies, Bogies and Pars. Below that, you see your Driving Accuracy, GIR, and PPR.

In the sub menu underneath, you have "Game", "Swing", "Body" and "Gear".

Going backward, "Gear" is basically just pimping Nike Golf gear. "Body" has some workouts, which look pretty dumb. "Swing" is a swing recording device that has a line where your feet should be and where the ball should be. I haven't used it yet, but it is reported that Nike "Pros" will analyze your swings you upload and provide feedback. I'm unsure about that.

Now, lets get into the actual usefulness of this app: "Game"

When you click the "Game" button, you're taken to this screen:



From here, you can click on "Track a Round" "View Saved Scorecards" "Manage Saved Scorecards" and "Game Help"

Clicking "Track A Round" takes you to this screen:



In which the phone tracks nearby courses it has scorecards for. From there you click the course you're at (It does it by mileage, so if you do it sitting on the #1 teebox, it SHOULD be the top course.

From there, you click the course and go to this screen:

where you select whether your tee shot was FIR, off left or off right. Then you select your score for the hole, and the number of putts.

From this, of course we get a statistical track of our FIR, GIR, PPR, and Nike claims to be working to get stats going on how often you miss left or right on drives.

Then of course when you're done, your scorecard is uploaded on the Nike Golf 360 website, where it is accessible for review.




On Nike Golf 360 you can pull up graphs showing stats etc. It's not really worth showing at this time as all I have at present is one dot on a graph, but it's there.

Overall, I'd recommend it!

Haven't tried that Nike app and am just going by the screenshots posted here, but excluding the nike-specific fluff, this looks like they've just copied the free version of Golfshot.

LOL! Just joined the OOBgolf group and it turns out the one lights out perfect round I had this year puts me at the top of the net leaderboard. I laughed.

This May vs Woods battle was epic. What a Sunday of trading blows and great shots.

Tiger's putt on the first play off is one of the GOAT when you add in some context. Playoff of a major, Bob May had just chipped it to tap in range, and of course the point.

That was epic.

I feel bad for May. He shot 72-66-66-66 (-18) in a major and didn't win. That's the second lowest score in relation to par in any major. May has never won a PGA tour event...

Nicklaus would have beaten May by 7 strokes.

random lolgolf course employee story

i call the course and ask if there is room for a single to jump on and play 9. he tells me sure come on over. i get there, check in, head out to the first tee. no other players in sight with 2 open holes in front of me. some dude comes cruising over in a cart and asks if i am going out as a single

i say yes and ask if he wants to join up. he says yes and then says that the guy in the clubhouse told him there wasnt room for any singles.

well, that's (clubhouse guys name) being him, i say

yeah, but i work here!

Play my Club Championship Quarterfinal tomorrow.

Paired against the defending champion who just happens to be the biggest bagger at the club. He maintains a 4 hcp for the purposes of gambling but is def a scratch (former instructor / minitour pro).

Despite blatantly bagging, he still goes around the club and brags about his net scores and how he wins $XX playing golf against other members. Lucky for him, the action junkies at my club continue to play him and give him all his shots.

He's not the most well-liked member so I'm labeling myself the People's Champ if I win tomorrow.

Finger's crossed! Might live tweet the status of the match throughout, heh.

Ask to see his letter from the USGA granting his amateur status back.
