It sounds crazy, but its right. The reason that humid air feels "wet" and "heavy" is just due to our own human perception since that same water is the way that we cool down (sweat). More humidity means our sweat doesn't work as well so we get hot and sticky. But water vapor is only 18g/mol and air is 29 g/mol (1 mol of any gas takes up the same volume as any other gas at the same temp/pressure). Point it, the air is less dense and therefore the ball should travel farther.

From my experiences this summer, the humidity really wears on me and after several holes, I'm just hot and tired and lose a little bit of distance. And the few articles and such I could find about this say that there is really just a negligible distance gain anyways, maybe like 1 or 2 yards per drive.

Rain or fog is quite a bit different than humidity (liquid compared to gas) and in that case could probably slow down the golf ball.

It seems to me that I hit it farther when playing in Arizona than Florida but that's probably altitude + roll.

Agreed, but If I am straight ahead just off the FW and you are going to cut the dogleg therefore hitting it ahead of where I am and while I am about to hit its inappropriate IMO. Also the other cart was around the dogleg and could be seen through the trees right where they were aiming....

Just got an invite to golf with some friends this Thursday, but it's going to be 46 degrees with the humidity index up here (115 fahrenheit). I've never played in weather like that before, but something tells me it's not a good idea.

Probably not. It's kind of crazy that it's that hot north of me, for a change. Heat Index of 112 in Minny is lol.

Gotta love MN. Only has a change of like 130 degrees between seasons.

I'm planning to play the following course in Lincoln City next Fri or Sat am (July 29 or 30):

Salishan Golf course

There are 3 of us and we want to buy the 2 for 1 groupon deal. Anyone local to that area interested in joining us? We'd share the same deal we get, basically half off the round.

Also let me know if this isn't the correct thread for this posting. Thanks!

Haha I remember that.

The funniest part has to be the backwards shot sound byte because it shows the shot like 15 times and everytime it's the same "Aww, come on baby!"

There's a course that offers a super twilight (5pm) rate of $25 w/ cart which is normally $40-$49 during week and $60-$74 weekend, which is quite pricey where I live. Gonna give it a shot tomorrow night. I think it will be playable until 8:30pm so I should be able to get through 18. Though the tee boxes could be clogged at 5. I do have a few fluorescent yellow balls that I guess I could use to finish.

What is the consensus on magnetic ball markers that you clip to your hat? For chicks only? I have one and I love it since it's incredibly easier than digging in your pocket but I've heard only women use them - why? lol. What do y'all use? I could clip it to my belt but I don't want to damage my belt and I think I would knock it off anyway.

could buy the golf gloves that have the little magnetic market on the velcro part...i wish my StaSofs would start offering that, i lose ball markers all the time and usually end up using a coin

If I wore a hat when I played I would love the hat clip markers... I actually got one at my last best ball tourney along with one that was attached to a ball mark fixer thing, and I affixed it to a hat I wear if I do wear one which is less than 10% of the time (little bit of sunblock and I rarely burn I just tan really well) .. the ball mark fixer thing is nice and metal but too big and I tried affixing it to my belt etc but its just not comfortable as I would rather use a tee or a smaller plastic one I have that fits nicely in my pocket..

...Who cares what people think as long as you find it comfortable and convenient.

I prefer quarters as small change is too hard too see, especially if I hit it closest and have time to read the green from several directions as my playing partners chip/putt from longer away.

One quarter and one dull penny in the pocket. Quarter if you are in no ones line and the dull penny if you are anywhere near a competitors line.

something about a penny bothers me. I think since it's smaller, it looks farther away than it really is. I just feel so much better with a quarter or nickel. Or a tee. That'll get in your playing partner's dome.

Speaking of hitting into people...

Yesterday I walked 9 at a little 9 hole course near me. There was a twosome in front of me the whole day and I was taking my time so I never really was pushing them too much. On the 9th hole, which is a big dogleg right as in it is like 160 straight out then goes at like a 90* angle another 330 or so with water and trees down the entire right side, I always hit my drive straight through the dogleg with a left handed hook into the 1st fairway and play it that way. So I did that yesterday but didn't hook it as much as I wanted and ended up going through the 1st fairway and had about 190 in for my 2nd shot. One of the guys in the twosome in front of me putted out and walked off the green and toward the clubhouse. The other guy, however, just started putting from like every spot on the green with two balls. I waited for about 10 minutes and yelled to hurry up but he just kept practicing. At this time there was a group on the first tee and I was pretty much in perfect range from an average tee shot off that hole so I decided to just hit my 2nd shot and yelled fore right after I hit it. It landed about 3-4 yards short of the green kind of on the fringe and the guy that was practicing putting walked off and hit my ball back about 10 yards with his putter as he did so. I mean I am not really sure what my play here is? There was a group behind me that had hit their tee shot, I was in range for the group on the first tee and this guy had been practicing putting for like 10 minutes previous to this and was walking to the back of the green when I hit for, seemingly, more practice...

Yell "Get the **** off the green!"

I mean wtf was he doing?? That's inexcusable on his part. He can go practice on the ****ing putting green. I'd definitely yell and gesture for him to get off the green.

Also definitely would confront him after he hits my approach back 10 yards. This is assuming he heard me yell before I hit.

You were in an unsafe position where 2 different groups could reach you (hole 1 tees and hole 18 tees). No way you should stick around while this clown is playing mini-golf.

Did he somehow forget you were playing behind him the whole round? And could he not hear you either time you yelled? I can't believe you waited 10 minutes. I would have given him 30 seconds at the most before I started to yell something.

Yeah, I think he heard me the first time but I am not entirely sure because he did kind of look up but then proceeded to drop the ball and continue putting. When I yelled fore he looked back too but I don't think he saw me near the other fairway.

What are your thoughts on this:

Club Championship is this wkend. My buddy is going to be out of town late Sunday - Saturday next week. Match Play starts the Saturday he's due to return.

This Sat. and Sunday are qualifying for match play.

Buddy will qualify easily, but he wants to work it out where he plays both Rd 1 and 2 matches on Sunday when back from vacation.

Assuming both opponents have no problems with the schedule shift... is it appropriate/unappropriate for the club to say this isn't allowed?

Pretty much what prohornblower said.

This is a definite confrontation for me. This is totally not ok. After screaming 1/2" from his face I will be going straight to the clubhouse. Both are probably useless but that's about all you can do really.
