Well we dodged a bullet here in Cairns with Cyclone Yasi. It changed course at the last second slightly south and we missed the full hammer blow. However the smaller towns of Tully and Mission Beach got leveled. The state of Queensland basically just lost 85% of its sugar crops and 90% of banana crops in one night. The wind here in Cairns was just unreal, prob around 200km at one stage. It sounded like a freight train was knocking at the door for a full 3 hours.Heading back to the Sunshine Coast A.S.A.P. I neen a holiday and some social golf badly.

I had some lessons in Oct/Nov. I may go back for some more in April or May when the weather turns nice.

Played this relatively nice private course near my house yesterday. Larry the Cable Guy was there having lunch with a couple people and his kid(s). Wearing camo shorts and like a quarter sleeve t-shirt, also partially camo. We found what I am guessing was his ball in some crap too, it was a pro-v with "git r done" in script on it.

Agree with Beer. That right hip is moving away from target quite a bit. I assume you hit some big hooks occasionally?

Never read it... but I just don't buy into the notion that you can read a book to improve your golf swing..

Or I should clarify... I think a VERY small % of the population could learn and improve from a book (on their physical swing, not mental game).

I clicked the link, saw the title, closed the link. That book, based purely on the title, will not help you.

grip looks bad, really weak, face is wide open at the top, gotta get the left hand more on top and the right hand more underneath

work on that grip first

Grip is easy and I agree that it's too weak. Thanks for the tip on the face position.

After searching around to find out what closed and open face meant for the top of the back swing I came across this tidbit...

"Top of Backswing

As you complete your backswing, the club face should be on a parallel plane as your swing plane. That means the club face shouldn't point directly to the sky, and the club head's toe shouldn't point directly at the ground. Another check at the top is to see if your lead hand -- left hand of right-handed players -- can support the club with just the thumb and smallest finger crooked around the shaft. If the club drops, it's not squared."

That sound correct? Also, I saw some mention that slightly closed is fine and even preferred by some.

Little incident at my course today. I grab my clubs from the trunk and start walking toward the practice green when I hear one guy yelling at someone. Two guys were involved, a black guy and a white guy. Black guy is a reg at the course and a former NFL player, white guy is 55-60ish and weak looking.

Anyway, there's two greens next to each other, one for chipping and one for putting. Apparently the white guy was putting on the chipping green and the black guy didn't like it. He asked/told the white guy to go to the putting green b/c he was putting to a cup that the black guy wanted to chip to. White guy tells him to *** off, black guy gets up in his face and shoves him to the ground and gashes his head open. So the guy is bleeding, and he tells the black guy he's going to get his gun! You never know how crazy these **** are so I made sure to keep a good distance from the black guy in case bullets started to fly.

White guy storms off in rage. I watch him though and he goes into the clubhouse, so I'm figuring a shootout is unlikely. If he was gonna rage, he's going straight to the car for the gun. Black guy starts packing up immediately and hits the road. Probably his best decision of the day.

White guy reappears about 5-10 mins later just as the cops are rolling up. This guy is a former steeler BTW. Maybe tilted from yesterday?

I forgot to mention that the chipping green was nearly full, so the black guy wasn't totally out of line in asking him to go to the putting green. What proceeded was definitely not cool though.

Is there ever a reason to putt on the chipping green if a putting green is currently in operation? I don't get it. Was he chipping near the hole then taking his putter up to putt it in, or was he just standing up there putting and having balls chipped in his direction the whole time? lol

I'm gonna be in Cozumel for a day later this month. I looked on Google Earth and found a sweet looking course. It says it's a Nicklaus-designed PGA course. Twilight fee+club rental is like $140. Way steep for me, and my wife sure as **** isn't gonna let me ditch her to go play golf. Course is open to the public though (ldo tourists) and I wonder if anyone has played it.

Randomly picked up a TM SuperDeep head from wrx last week. Stuck the Tour Fubuki I had in my R9 in it. Only been to the range so far, but it appears to be ~10 yards longer than the R9. Anyone played this head and have any feedback?

On a related note, I love love love the way club customization is going. Being able to pop shafts in and out like you can with the R9 series is fantastic for both manufacturers and consumers.

It's this time of year that really starts to eat away at my soul. When October/November rolls around I am usually so fed up with golf that I don't mind the break. However, now that I am 6-7 weeks away from starting my season (I played on St. Patty's day last year) I'm really starting to jones for golf again. Waking up early, smelling the morning dew, being one of the first people on the driving range, smoking a joint on the first hole at 7am.. ungh, I'm dying to play.

I have hit one bucket of balls over the last 3 months, but I think I will start to ease myself back into a routine by getting to the indoor dome once a week and working at getting my muscle memory back again. Come on spring!

That head is supposed to be super low spin, similar to the cobra S9 pro D. How has your ball flight changed? I assume you're getting more roll which accounts for the 10 yards. How does it compare forgiveness wise?

I also love the ability to pop shafts in and out. I got into the I-mix craze and bought a bunch of heads and shafts, but it never worked out for b/c I couldn't get along with the heads. The FT-9 is stupid easy to hit but it looks like a pancake, and feels dead. I tend to like classic looking stuff, if it doesn't setup right I can't play it. You can't really shape shots with it either. FT-5 is much better head IMO but it sounds obnoxious and I couldn't hit it solid enough. TM will likely be my next adventure as I could certainly use some new technology. I'm still playing the 510TP, which is as good as anything when you're on, but distance is severely punished when mishit.

It doesn't look wide open to me at the top. If it was wide open, then the face would be facing the ground.

I was told that the face should be parallel with your left hand (for a righty) so it's not a bad thing if the face is pointing to the sky. It's more important that the back of your left hand is parallel with the club face.

Do you agree with that?
MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread Quote

It is open a touch. About 45 degrees is square. If the face is perpendicular to the ground it is wide open and yours is somewhere in between but closer to open. It will never point at the ground, that would be near impossible. It can be close to the back of your left hand but that will depend on strength of grip and other swing factors....look at Dustin Johnson and Duval. Closed is much better than open for the most part.

I think.

It's open, it may not be wide the **** open but it was pretty obvious to me at first glance from watching a youtube vid. Grip is the culprit, both hands.

Correct, it's a really low spin head. Haven't played yet, just hit about a dozen balls on the range side by side with both heads, popping the shaft in and out to compare. It's going to be tough to get a direct comparison as I went up in loft two degrees. The R9 was a freebie from a buddy of mine on TM staff so I just took what I got, but the 8.5 was too little loft, especially when you crank it open some (I normally played it 1 open for looks mainly). So with the SD I picked up a 10.5 head.

Definitely considerably higher flight with those few balls, so the 10 yards I think I picked up are all in the air. Probably lose some roll, although if the flight ends up being higher but also flatter maybe not.

Also, it only came with 16/1 weights, so I will probably pick up some in the middle range to mess around with.

Going to hopefully play tomorrow and will have a better overall idea after.
