What are you talking about?

Not sure I'm understanding. The USGA brings a team out to rate the course. They then post the ratings on their website and send the rating info back to the club. Whether or not the club orders new scorecards to reflect the new rating is up to them, but the rating will always be right in the USGA and handicap computers.

EDIT: oobgolf info is edited by users. But only Addicts are allowed to edit course info. I'm not that so **** it. lol.
Even if you're not an addict you can change the slope/course rating as you enter the score via the webpage. I did it yesterday for a course I played in the Poconos. It doesn't change it permanently, just for your score.

I've entered 175 scores on oob, and the ratings have been off around 5 times. The yardages are screwed up more frequently, and you can't change those without being an addict member.

So BO was being an ass for no reason.

Personally I care because they are the ones that make the rules.
So not caring would mean that I don't follow the rules of golf.
But that's just my opinion and like aholes everyone is entitled to their own.

so their estimate is never measured , but you care? if you opened a store and estimated you would make $8000 a month, but actually lost $2000 a month , would you care what the estimate is?

Yeah I selected the white tee box then edited the rating/slope by manually entering what was on the scorecard and USGA and it worked. But then I logged on last night and my -6 that was atop the Leaderboard (lol) was gone so I was wondering why and went to my score and it had defaulted to the oob rating/slope.

What in the world are you talking about with regards to "their estimate"???

I have no idea what is going on here. lol

As far as I can tell, the USGA generates the rating/slope for each tee box and thus is correct. It is up to the course, oobgolf, and whoever else to accurately reflect what the USGA has chosen as the "estimated" rating. Obviously the USGA is not omniscient but their ratings should be taken at face value to be correct, for all intents and purposes.

During summer / warm months -- Chicago is up there.

There are some incredible public golf courses all within an hour's drive.

Just to correct one point of relatively meaningless detail, the USGA really doesn't rate courses. Local and State associations do it on their behalf.

And the process for rating a course is pretty objective, I think calling them estimates is unfair.

Ha yes, typing out that the local agencies handle it for the USGA was too much work for me and thought it would add a layer of confusion.

You are correct in your statement.

The rules are stated as such:

Courses must be re-rated at least every 10 years, or if it is a new golf course, within 5 years.
A course must also be re-rated if significant changes have been made to the course.
To schedule a course rating, the club representative needs to contact its authorized golf association.

I think tomorrow I will finally break 90.

Course I am playing from the tips is 71.7/123 6,585.

I think tomorrow is the day. I feel as if I have everything finally working. Going out alone, hope I don't get paired up with any gummy bears.

Why are you playing from the tips if you can't break 90?

I haven't played a single round in the last two weeks brother in law got married and had some family from the UK staying with us the entire time. They just left today. It was fun but so exhausting as well. (it was my job to show them around and feed them alcohol for 14 straight days ).

I got another wedding this Saturday (wifes best friend) and finally have a Sunday morning to relax and sleep in on. Might play then, if not, got a charity tourney to attend this Wednesday.

Can't wait! to get back to playing.

Update +7 through 4. Hit the pin on my approach shot on 2 holes and both times shot into the bunker. Not gonna happen today. I needed to play bogey golf with a few pars sprinkled in. It may never happen for me.

If you hit the pin twice means your dialed in. Just need some pars to cancel out the doubles. Should be fairly easy if your sticking your approach shots

Ended up with a 97. Hitting the putting green for 2 weeks before I head back out.
