Sigh, I have never made an eagle in my life. Sounds like some good golfers here.

PSA: if you ever are in the Foxwoods area. Never ever ever ever ever play Pequot Golf Club. I want to say it's the worst course I have ever seen, but that would be doing a disservice to actual golf courses as this was a ****ing dump.

Is this a function of the course conditions, service, or something else?

The course conditions. It was like golfing in somebodies driveway. Everything was a bad lie. Boulders sticking out of the fairways in random spots. Some fairways were longer than the rough which was mostly dirt. Just awful awful experience.

I got my third ever eagle this weekend. 488 yard par 5; driver, 8 iron to 2 feet. It was a beauty

Jesus, how far was your drive to be hitting an 8 iron into a 488 yard par 5?

I've never had an eagle partly because I'm still not very good (generally shoot mid 80's to low 90's on a pretty easy and short course on average) and because I'm a fairly short hitter. The only decent looks at it that I have had have been on a super short (~465 yard) par 5 on one of the local courses, and even those times I've still been hitting like a 5h into the green from 185 or so.

I had a lot of factors in my favour. The fairway on this hole is two-tiered and I hit the slope between the two tiers, so it ran out pretty considerably. It was also downhill and I nutted it. Also, the hole is double dog-leg, so I think it plays considerably shorter directly from tee to green.

I just measured it on google earth; the drive was about 315-320 and the 8 iron approach was about 150 yards.

Anyone carry 2 putters in their bag?

I'm seriously considering it. My Scotty Cameron for lag putts and my Odyssey 2-ball putter for everything inside 5 feet.

Curious what general thoughts are:

Good pace of play is:

being in-position to the group ahead of you

OR

playing to the suggested time on the scorecard

Option C...finishing in 3 hrs lol

All seriousness though Id probably just say scorecard due the variety of golfers on the golf course. I mean if you have 4 scratch golfers playing ahead of 4 20 handicaps I wouldnt expect them to keep pace but then again ya never know.

Just so long as at least one of the above conditions are satisfied you're OK.

Good pace of play should be defined independently, not based on what's happening in front of you (fast or slow). So, the second one for me, understanding of course that someone in front of you can be limiting.

Golf Channel just got done showing Payne Stewart's 1 stroke win over Phil at the '99 US Open at Pinehurst. What an epic final round with Tiger in the hunt, too. Hard to believe 15 years later and Phil still doesn't have a US Open.

I couldn't believe how small the driver heads were back then. And there was a 489 yard par 4 that they said was the longest par 4 in US Open history. Like 5% of players were hitting that GIR. Mickelson was hitting his driver like 265. Insane how much has changed.

I heard a story about some pro many years ago (I forget who) who carried 2 putters. When asked why he had 2 putters in his bag when you can only have 14 clubs, he replied "just so the putter I use knows she can be replaced."

I went the span of a decade (with golf sparse through much of it) playing public tracks where five hours was an average 18 on weekends. Best part of joining a club was the fact that people get pissed if the round takes more than four hours.
