Pretty funny how this Jimmy Roberts show starts out with a 15 minute segment on the dire condition of golf courses wrt water usage and cost, likening water to oil. Then the next segment is about all the golfers who make wine. Wine takes a ****load of water. Last time I went to a local winery they said each wine vine takes 3 gallons of water every day, and of course they had thousands of vines and this was a very, very small winery.

Gary Player needs to just go home, do more situps, and STFU.

Quit trying to chime in on players' personal lives

I'm sure that a guy in his early 20's and is banging a tennis star really wants advice from a 77 year old man.

Do.. Can anyone explain wjy elderly people stop at nothing to retrieve lost golf balls? Today I witnessed an older gentleman knee deep in a little creek that seperates the fairway on a par 5. Not thinking TOO much of it, I watch him exit (with ball, of course) with shoes and socks still on.

I mean wtf?

The grew up during the depression. Octogenarians try to save a $1 ball and if they get bit by anything in that swamp their immune system can't handle it and they'll surely die.

Senility ftl.

Player was probably doing one handed push ups during the interview

Having grown up playing a crappy municipal course in Florida filled with retirees on social security this doesn't surprise me. They are gigantic nits and will scavenge anything remotely of value.

One time when I was a kid I decided to mess with them. I used my Dad's grinding wheel to flatten the tops of a bunch of tees so the ball wouldn't stay on. Then I played 9 holes and left a few behind on every tee box for the geezers to find.

Ended up buying the Golflogix GPS app for my phone last year. Never ended up using it, and just ended up grabbing a bushnell rangefinder and use that all the time.

Was playing last week, and a friend had the Golfshot GPS app, and I can confirm it is awesome. One time $30 fee and has some great features. My favorite feature is the drag-target feature. This feature helps you manage the course a lot better.
You can tinker around and drag your target around. It will show your current distance to target, and distance from target to the hole - and then you can just pick which club you want to hit. Makes it easier when setting up for your second shot imo.

Unless I'm doing it wrong, I can't seem to do that on my golflogix app. It just shows distance to pin.

EDIT: just did some more research on the golflogix app, and looks like they do have this feature as well. oops.

I use a laser, and then supplement it with Golfshot on my phone if I am playing an unfamiliar course. It comes in handy to measure carry and run out distances.

lol that is my job. I make my own schedule (and a pretty flexible one at that), and nowadays am focusing on client relations (which means a lot of golf and dinners).

aside: I just started Golf in the beginning of 2012. Before that I was a driving range pro (not really) and only really played a full 18 twice. In a year and a half, I've gotten my handicap down to about 17 (and that's with no instructor). I know most of you can kick my ass on the links, but I do feel proud of that. No instructor, flexible schedule, an amazingly supportive wife and the chubbiest little 10 month baby boy in the world!

Life is good, and a man is not a man without his obsessions!

Long live Golf

Why are you proud of not having a lesson? Were you drunk for the sat's and still got a perfect score? Never went to class and got an A without cracking the book? Bench 300 , never even lifted?

I've met one person my whole life I would consider a natural at golf.
