Ok seriously, this thread is so epic long and I think it's time for some cliff notes, or at LEAST a reference to the page where cliff notes are. Thanks in advance.

Your problems are giving your account info to another player.
Im still not sure why this was done.

Roseeker was already on my radar as shady when I got into a argument with him over
shortstacking. From this alone I could tell he was a little morally misguided to say the least. So you being best friends with him leaves you in a bad spot.

You either made a lot of dumb decisions or birds of a feather flock together.

Yeah, we really like to stone (or at least give 'em a good disfigurin') our adulterous women here...oh wait, that's somewhere else where they peacefully practice Islam...my mistake.

Most of the world doesn't, and we don't share American right wing religious morality.

Obama is as liberal as our mainstream politics gets here, and even he supports the death penalty. Unless you consider the Obama Administration right wing, in which case I LOL in your general direction (beats farting, don't complain). Oh, and what if I'm agnostic, am I still imposing my religious morality? :-)

Our European legal systems have the capacity for redemption and forgiveness.

I agree that your European legal system sets a real example so nobody else gets it in their head that they'll get off if they try it. "Don't commit crime! If we catch you, we WILL forgive you! We could be redemptive, even! So criminals...BEWARE! [insert evil laugh here]" [such a silly liberal]

This is one reason why some of us find the vehemence of the desire to punish these two disturbing, and the immaturity of the discussion scary.

Attempted felony theft tends to bring out the vehemence of the victims and members of the larger community who almost took up the propsters on their proposition. If advocating punishment for wrongdoing is vehemence, then I strongly support Vehemence for Prez in '12. Is she running?

We do live in a world where social networking sites and the internet have given us the ability to "out" people to their family, friends and employers.

Heaven forbid there be an outbreak of...[shuddder]...TRUTH!

I am suspicious when people want to exercise such awesome power with no empathy for the people affected.

Oh, I don't know about "awesome power," seems a bit superlative to me. And as for empathy, I understand quite well how the hoodlums feel. Sorry they got caught and missed out on thousands and thousands of dollars thanks to one person's volunteer detective work.

I think that outing them on a steveware like website would be a cruel and unusual punishment

Do you have any idea what the Founding Fathers were referring to when they prohibited that in our Constitution? Do you really think that the same Constitution which advocates for a "public trial" (6th amendment) would consider such public information "cruel and unusual punishment" (8th amendment)?

and not fitting to the crime. I think a group of intelligent poker players could come up with something less vindictive and more positive as a punishment. This is why I suggested that Gary should do another prop bet task, if he wins, his profits go to charity - if he loses, his BR goes to charity. If Stars takes his BR and bans him, he will have lost $20k of BR and c$100k+ of expected SNE benefits. I think that's enough. Redemption, social ostracism and at least some charity would benefit from the crime - a positive rather than negative solution.

I am assuming that Pokerstars will only deduct whatever money they can prove was wrongfully deprived from other customers who played the cheater. All the remaining money will be given to the cheater in a closing transaction. The real safeguard for future prop bets must be a cheating escrow, but that would make future action less affordable for both sides, and might not sufficiently make less attractive taking the risk of cheating. It wouldn't be a freeroll anymore, but it would still be hard to get caught. And if the escrow is the same amount as money put up, the cheater would still have a better than 50% shot if the odds are 3:1.

On the hypothesis that he made it to court in the UK (unlikely) the chance of him being fined $20k would be minimal, and there is no way a failed, unpremeditated, non-violent crime would result in a prison sentence.

Well, that's the British way. They don't put people in bars when perhaps if they did it would have the long term result of fewer people having to be put behind bars in the first place.

FWIW, STTFrs know me well, I'm a British microstakes grinder living in Peru and have absolutely no relationship to the two villains at all, and have never had any communication with them or their dodgy associates.

I am quite sure you are as neutral as I am, with that, I have no quarrel.

1) I log in one morning and nearly all of my money is gone. Roseeker tells me on MSN to chill out and that his friend ****ed something up. I am only slightly suspicious, and accept Roseekers promises to get my money back.

2) Receive PM from prop-bet judge. Discuss this with Roseeker and he tells me what to say. I am still REALLY in the dark at this moment, and I am just trying to figure out what the hell is gone on. Still not sure if Roseeker/Gary cheated, but I decide to help Roseeker out because of our longtime friendship while I try and figure out what's going on.

3) Jalex goes nutso on this thread and pretty much prove to me and everyone else what has happened. During this time I am in intermittent contact with Roseeker. I still have nowhere near the full story, but Jalex has painted a pretty clear picture. Roseeker asked me nicely to simply wait until stars came out with their statement before I posted in this thread. Out of respect for him and our former relationship I told him I would let him and Gary deal with it, and stay out of it completely.

So there it is - obviously I will miss some details here and there but I will try and be as transparent as possible. I had no money in this stake and didn't even know about it until after the cheating occurred. Obviously I wasn't completely open about everything during this entire investigation - but it was pretty obvious was the outcome was going to be after Jalex's first couple of posts.

Put yourselves in my position before you criticize. I have no money on poker other than that which Roseeker has given me, he is a long-time and trusted poker friend, and all of a sudden you wake up one morning and all of this **** has happened. What would you do?

So, in short, I suppose I accept whatever responsibility I deserve. But let me just say this I got the short-end of the stick in this scam. My account is frozen, my reputation is ruined, and I wasn't even getting any money out of it! Bullcrap!
Prosecutors don't show lenience to a criminal just because said criminal got cut out of the splitting of the loot. Welcome to the double-edged sword of justice! You assume the risk of having your reputation ruined (as it currently is) when you share your password with someone else (or create an insufficiently cryptic password, for that matter).

Umm I'm taking a stab at cliffs please correct
1.) OP is almost finished with prop bet but a few BI short
2.) He coached or has friends that coach and a few of the micro students decided to play 200NL right about the end of the prop bet
3.) They donk off a few BI's and a 2+2per spots it
4.) Then about 2000 more posts happen

Well actually here in the US we believe that the people have the right to defend themselves instead of relying on the government to do so. That's a basic right codified into our Constitution (second only to the right to speak our minds/express ourselves freely). That's the way it is here and maybe your statement is true wherever you are but here we pride ourselves on individuality and being able to take responsibility for protecting our own lives, family, property, etc. even if that includes protecting it FROM the government. It's law enforcement's job to apprehend the criminals but I also have the right to protect myself, my family, my house, etc. if someone threatens any or all of the above. We don't have the right to go apprehend people who aren't directly threatening us but if we are under a threat we do have that right. See the difference?

But seriously enough politics bull****, there's a seperate forum here for that. And Starrazz for the love of God please stop reinforcing the stereotype of how dumb Americans are and making us all look bad.

Oh and Breezz I still don't get how you found you had no money in your account and then just when roseeker told you to told judges that you were playing. Like that's just a flat out lie and you had to know that at the time. Your story makes you either seem like a huge idiot who can simultaneously believe that someone is innocent and then has to have you lie for them to judges or else makes it sound like you were an accomplice in it. Considering you were intelligent enough to sign up on 2p2 and get money online somehow I'm gonna go with your iq being above 5 and you being an accomplice. But that's just me.

Yes, you figured it out.

my account is like 4yrs old, so its not like it was created for this thread (critical thinking there, brosef).

I felt strongly that while Gary could be guilty, the mob mentality was going about things the wrong way. I'm glad the liars and cheaters were caught and outed. I don't regret thinking things should be handled even-keeled until a determination is made.

Oh, and by the way, I don't require perfection in the administration of criminal justice to believe in the value of the death penalty. The lives it saves far outnumber the lives it costs. The logical extension of the argument that justice must be perfect before it can be delivered can result only in a complete denial of any justice whatsoever--as long as humans remain in charge of its administration.

In a democracy, people are born free but delegate some of their freedom to an elected government for the greater good. Rational people don't give their governments the power to kill them or their children. So either the US government has taken the power without consent - tyranny, or Americans are irrational.

Jalex, he wasn't implying that you are dumb - he was saying that there is a stereotype of Americans which characterises them as dumb.

well I don't know you but your posts recently have been pretty dumb. Pretty sure I could refute the majority of your claims (there are a few I actually agree with) but I don't think anyone wants to turn this into a big long politics debate as the death penalty/US/European ideologies actually has very little to do with this case.

To your first point, obviously tyranny is not the explanation since we have free and fair elections in this representative democracy. Our Constitution does not guarantee life, liberty, or property--it merely confirms that the government cannot take any of those away without due process of law. If someone has received due process, they can and should lose their property (fine), liberty (jail), and/or life (death penalty).

To your second point, thank you for trying to make everybody get along nicely, but some folks have only one gear: if someone says something they disagree with and their head hurts because they can't think of a rational argument against it, they just call names like they did on the school playground when they were bullies back in the day. It's a pleasure to engage with someone who is above such simplistic approaches.
