My mother is a heroin addict and whenever she would relapse it was so devastating. She would be clean for months and then bam the negative consequences/rehab/relapse cycle would just start again. I know people go years and then relapse all the time but it is just hard to understand for non addicts to go 5 years and then fall off the wagon. I am most interested if it was a gradual decline-you felt yourself getting weaker but didn't take the necessary steps to solidify your recovery-or if it was sudden.
Saw this thread for the first time today and read the first 200-225 posts and then skipped to the last page, but didn't you ask exact same thing like 3-4 years ago? Just wondering.

Why did you not move out? You said in the first thread that you made shortly (I think?) after coming back from prison that you'd move out when you've finished probation.

Now you probably won't have time for this, but I'd love to hear more stories about the people you met in prison. Just like, "x was a white, skinny, 5 foot tall dude who had actually murdered his wife with a sledge hammer. In person he was really shy and we talked about dog breeding together". There was another guy who did a thread slightly similar to yours and I remember reading about some fascinating characters, and after watching tv shows you get ideas about characters inside the walls. If you haven't read the other thread and are interested I'm pretty sure the title was "ask me anything about doing time in maximum (and minimum) security prison" and it was in OOT too. He had a drug related conviction as well.

Hope all ends well for you, OP.
Not with my old girlfriend anymore.

I didn't move because of family.

My first cellmate was older black born again Christian who killed six people but had no recollection of doing so. Very nice guy who let me watch his tv until I was able to afford one.

The guy who cut hair was 21 and had 60 years for stomping a white dude to death.

Had a cellmate who had ten years for receiving stolen property and conspiracy for something I don't remember. His paper work said he was a white male even though he was black. His layer convinced him if he pled guilty he would serve less than a year. He got mail from the aclu etc almost daily. Yes I saw his paper work.

Will do a couple more later..

That was myturn2raise and it was also a great thread.

I used weed when I was off probation but I've never been a drinker. It was momentary lapse in judgement and it was a very short period before I was using every day. I was ashamed to tell my family even though they obv knew. Will elaborate further when I have some more free time.

I recently relapsed too after 9 months clean. (got in a car wreck and the doc gave me pills :/)

Luckily I've pulled out of it after less than two weeks and have a few days clean under my belt.

Anyway, not trying to compare our situations but you're not alone, as you already know.

I don't pray, but I certainly wish you well throughout this process.

I went there and most people were from VA Beach. Only reason I asked. The director has a lot of ties to the court in Va Beach

Yeah it's in Winchester correct? Bad location. I had a friend that went there, got out and lived in Winchester for a week before he overdosed. Hope it worked out better for you.

So after 5 years, what's the thought process when you decide to shoot up? Seems like it take a little more time that someone passing you a beer or joint cause you have to prepare the shot. No personal experience, just curious. Do you think you can do it once, or just decide you prefer to be using?

5 years but yeah. I was using for a few months before the trouble with the law happened.

I'm 32 days clean. But the thought process was "lemme do this shot so I can function at work."

If you mean the first time, the thought process is "I can do this just once." I know that sounds crazy to some of you but it made sense at the time... post of being an addict I guess.

Damn just reading this thread and my first one makes me feel weird. It's been a long strange trip.

On another note is there any way to get my Layzie account back or maybe a title? I'm assuming it's prob been too long to reactivate but it's worth asking I guess.

Edit: I just noticed I put it in my location when I made a new account... I guess that's good enough.

Just occurred to me I'm not being very clear. I used heroin earlier in my life for about 4 straight years.. daily, usually more than once.. I then went to prison, and got out... then came the obv relapse in 2010 when this thread was started. I then was clean for nearly three years. So it's misleading of me to say 5 years heroin free. Well. It's just flat out wrong I guess.

Since the first time I gave up heroin, I've had a total of 5 years clean with this being the second relapse. I am 32 days clean but my mind still doesn't feel normal, and I guess that's the junkie in me talking when I said five years heroin free.

Hmm... that wasn't me that said that was it? If it was I had to have been high. Sounds more like Benny. Hope he's ok.

Hey Layzie! stay strong bro.

To answer the question about me, I'm still clean, and I have been for over 3 years now. I drink a lot (WI, ldo) and smoke herb, but have stayed away from heroin and all other opiates. I have a decent job and I am actually saving money for once in my life. Moving out of Milwaukee was huge.

Reading some of my old posts in this thread is embarrassing. I was high or sick for most of them.

All my best goes out to you Layzie, I seriously believe this thread of yours really helped me finally get clean. I wish you the best bro!

Yeah. I've had enough money to move out for the last couple years, but unfortunately my dad's health really started deteriorating fast the last couple years, as well. So my mom asked me to stick around to help out. Family first.

I just started reading this thread, in a voyeuristic kinda way, I guess. I've never done drugs and have no addictions other than porn and microlimits poker maybe?.. I read up to page 40ish, where you were outta rehab and clean for a month, but Benny was still struggling and headed for his parents place. I skipped ahead to the last page and I gotta say I was shocked Benny's clean, and you're the one having issues again. No judgement here on anyone but I woulda bet, the other way around. I sincerely hope u turn it around again layziee/eeonblue . I am truly rooting for you and anyone else in this thread who is struggling. I think u should take great pride in the fact that you helped Benny and others by starting this thread. I truly hope you can find happiness in the future away from drugs. Life definitely sucks at times, I know, I had 1 failed suicide attempt myself using 5 yr old leftover oxys from a major back operation, but damn life can be good too. I'm now 47, married and own a home for the first time in my life. A wonderful strong woman can help in many ways... So, I wish you the best and stay strong Layziee....

Thanks for reading and thanks for the encouragement. I'm a little over a month clean from all drugs and nicotine. Also I've never been a drinker so that's not an issue. I feel better than I've felt in awhile. Only thing is I can't lose my job and I can't do weekends on a felony charge so I'm a bit stressed but hey at least I'm not sick all the time. Plus it'll be months down the road when/if I go to jail.

I hope the threads helped, they've been therapeutic to me.
