Yesterday I canceled my hotels for both trips to the WSOP...

Today I rebooked to the better rooms at 20% discount

Also, it appears that Trump will announce payroll tax cuts tomorrow - so more money for poker

They're using a solver on the virus in Tennessee and the results look promising.

PokerStars Live Euro Events Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Pandemic

"The 2020 WSOP isn’t the only poker series in jeopardy due to the coronavirus pandemic that is spreading internationally. Many health experts worry the virus will spread at an alarming rate in certain European countries, especially Italy, which is in an emergency state after more than 360 citizens have died in recent weeks from the coronavirus."

"Cancelling a poker series that could make a company thousands of dollars is never an easy decision. But PokerStars knew they couldn’t risk players becoming ill at their events. So, in response to the COVID-19 scare, the online poker company is cancelling all three European live satellite events until April 10. Those “Road to the PSPC” tournaments are as follows:

Hamburg (Germany) March 10-15
La Grand Motte (France) March 10-15
Madrid Gran Via (Spain) March 31-April 5"

"PokerStars won’t be the last poker tournament operator to cancel an event due to the coronavirus scare. Player safety should always be more important than making a buck."

I'd say they're not getting as good odds and so should find a better spot.

Coachella, Stagecoach music festivals may be postponed due to coronavirus

"Two of the largest music festivals in the U.S. may be postponed this spring because of the coronavirus, according to news reports.

Variety said late Monday that both the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Festival would not take place as originally scheduled in April in Indio, California. Organizers have yet to release official statements, but Variety said the festivals would likely be rescheduled for October."

"An estimated 250,000 festivalgoers were expected to attend the event, featuring headliners Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean."

“Postponing the massive festival series until October is a huge endeavor involving hundreds of artists and their representatives, as well as hundreds of contractors and vendors and tens of thousands of employees,” Billboard said.

"Earlier Monday evening, Pearl Jam announced it had postponed the first leg of its North American tour because of coronavirus concerns."

Shouldn't the mortality rate be based only on "resolved" cases?

64,496 cases have resolved, 3,802 were fatal =~ 5.9%?
03-10-2020 , 02:24 AM
Really doesn't matter that much, since neither percentage is especially accurate until they get a handle on the true number of cases out there, which is almost certainly far higher than their confirmed numbers.
03-10-2020 , 02:51 AM
I mean I agree with both of the above posts...it should be on resolved cases only, but it isn't reflective of actual rates. What the hell do I know though.

Two people have caught coronavirus after travelling on a plane two rows away from someone who was infected, which is three or four feet away. Poker players play together closer than that. As 80% of the virus show no symptoms, it is impossible to be accurate about how many have it, unless one chooses to multiply the official figures by 80%. And as cases are undiagnosed, it follows that some coronavirus deaths wont have been connected to coronavirus.

So we are left with only one clear figure, that of those whose confirmed exposure has completed, 6% have died.
03-10-2020 , 06:55 AM
If we don't have data on the exact number of cases since that is going to be higher then why scare everyone with a number that we know for a fact is too high. I like the WHO reporting, it just states the number of cases and deaths and leaves us to make our own conclusions.

Czech Republic with 40 cases and 0 deaths in. 10 mill population just cancelled all public events above 100 people

Just saw this. "100+ people" is the most restrictive prohibition on "large gatherings" that any country has taken so far?

https://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2020...rus-czech.html

"The Czech Republic is to close schools indefinitely and ban events hosting more than 100 people in new measures to contain the coronavirus, its prime minister said on Tuesday."

Here's a Tuesday morning U.S. update.

Some of the non-resolved are also going to end up in deaths. Perhaps 6% of them, although as pointed out, we don't really know since we don't know how many people have/had it that have gone unreported.

Just saw on the news a Caesars employee(dealer) in Las Vegas had requested to wear gloves for protection since the virus stays on cash and casino chips and management reviewed it and declined saying that the CDC has not determined gloves to be a major deterent for the spread of the virus.

If I see it in article form later I will post.

Im not sure I understand the "ban all events over XXX people".

Whats the difference between a 1000 person event and ten 100 person events?

Do don't they have the same risks for spreading infection?
03-10-2020 , 10:33 AM
Just guessing that 1000+ people the chance someone is infected is much greater than 100 people and could potentially spread to a lot more people in the bigger group.
03-10-2020 , 10:43 AM
thats exactly what I don't get.

The chance of anyone being infected in a community are X.

The cChance of the person pressing to another when coming into contact is Y.

So if 1000 people are together it will spread to X*Y people, then each of those will infect others

1000 person group = X*Y=Z

Ten 100 person groups = 1000 people = X*Y= same exact Z

Im sure Im missing something and there is a medical/statistical reason for 1000 person group being bad and 500 person group OK.

Or is it just a risk / benefit in that banning less 1000 groups is politically more problematic.
