If they did cancel the WSOP, I doubt they would decide before May 15 and they might just cancel the first week or two and wait and see about what to do with the rest of the schedule.

Pretty sure. A lot of airlines are offering free rescheduling.

Rounders Screenwriter Pushes for Nationwide Online Poker Amid Coronavirus Scare

"WSOP Unintentionally Prepared for Coronavirus?
Many poker players are concerned the 2020 WSOP will be cancelled due to the coronavirus. While the WSOP hasn’t yet announced a cancellation or guarantee that the series will take place as planned, they may have unintentionally prepared for the worst.

The 2020 WSOP schedule features 14 online bracelet events held at WSOP.com. Buy-ins for these events range from $400 to $10,000. So, even in the unlikely event the live series in Las Vegas is cancelled, it’s likely the online poker events will still take place."

Wow, odds on poker shares were -400 on ME run as scheduled and +300 on not for days.
Right now it went down to -161 run and +132 cancel.

Read the fine print. They can make you jump through hoops to get your money back. Expedia's travel insurer asks for doctor's note saying you were too messed up to travel.

Sensible decision would be for them to cancel it right now to remove all uncertainty, not just for players but for staff and for all of the ancillary industries involved, add more events to the WSOP.com on line bracelet schedule and add a big schedule of WSOPE (Europe) bracelet events to a Euro site they can reach agreement with, who can then start running satellites to the WSOPE on line events straight away.

If ever an industry has a ready made obvious solution to temporarily running their whole business remotely on line, this is the time.

Even if the live WSOP goes ahead due to the virus figures stabilising or dropping, field sizes will still be way down I predict, because many non US players won't be there due to them usually booking everything 2 to 3 months in advance and starting to play sats 2 to 3 months in advance. The live series is therefore tantamount to a dead duck IMO, or at best will be quite hollow compared to a normal year.

Why would poker players be at less risk? They're more likely to travel to the Asian and Euro hotspots than most.

I was thinking about going to my local casino yesterday, but decided to stay home instead. Anyone else hesitating or stopping live play altogether while this thing plays out?

Less non US players?
Sounds like a great series

I imagine the games will also be worse. Most pros can't afford to stop playing, but at least some portion of recs will stay away.
03-09-2020 , 12:38 PM
Games are worse for sure
As for me yeah I'll go
Corona's been a blessing though as it spreads awareness of prevention

- Especially the 20,30s + hand washing needed to kill viruses and having to do it a LOT, as in every time you come from the outside etc. is something I didn't know about

Especially when handling chips has been eye opening - I've had a lot of colds and this was most likely a major factor

Australian here

Firstly, lol us for buying all the toilet paper and fighting in stores over it. That isn't good.

Secondly, its a lock that at some point, major sporting events in the USA and in Australia/Europe will be played behind closed doors next few months (as opposed to postponed or cancelled). Not close.

Basically, the more a sport gets out of TV revenue, the more chance that it is played behind closed doors. The more sports behind closed doors, the better for TV.

Inter Milan vs Ludogorets was played behind closed doors as a Europa Cup tie (Italy vs Bulgarian teams). Quite a fascinating watch in regards to watching with no crowd noise and hearing players call for the ball/kick etc, but not the point). The sports that have a high % of TV revenue as total revenue will go this route.

Sports that don't have this (such as WSOP) won't. So they will either have to choose to go ahead or not, or have government determine that for them. I would guess a no from now.

If anyone wants to bet on at least one NHL/NBA game being behind closed doors/postponed/moved this year at evens (2019-20 season), if you have access to paying via PP or similar hit me up (Australian here), I am already pretty deep on betting on COVID affecting sporting events around the world, so what is a bit more. Can escrow with right people for right amounts. For medium stakes ($100-$1k).

"G'Day, Aussie here. Millyuns of people might doy but I find it fascinating watching games of footy where struth you can actually hear the players say "back door", "man on, man on", "keeper", "away, away", and by the way I have a range of death related bets for you to consider if you are able to escrow, cobber".

Not entirely wrong tbh, but if people want to keep thinking the world is sunshine in regards to the spread of the disease it would be rude to not give the chance to bet on happiness and rainbows.

My wife is immunocompromised, so I have agreed to take poker off the schedule. Not happy though. There was hardly ever a concern with the flu which has been far more lethal. I am still confused by this!

March 9th press conference out of London...

Interesting talk at the beginning about suppressing the # of infected that would otherwise become sick during the "peak," but then pushing-back that peak until summer.

once you're infected the flu isn't more lethal though, the flu is just way more widespread around the globe than corona is
