I think we can officially start the clock to Trump attacking Christie mercilessly as this is arguably the most direct confrontation and dismissal of everything Trump has been saying by a prominent Republican, not named Romney.

How dare people boycott someone for doing something shitty. It's like you can't even get a little rapey anymore without people not wanting to work with you. Cancel culture is out of control!

lol @ describing this as "cancel culture." Oh the poor guy, he got criticized, apologized, and is making a new, better mask with an actual authority on the art form he wants to use rather than a cheap imitator? The humanity!

This is just not true. Being openly gay at work would be out of the question when most of our parents were born. We have much more freedom against "cancellation" than we've ever had. Even in the early 2000s at my conservative High school a gay teacher would have been met with parent/student protests. I think the first ever same sex couple that were allowed to take each other to the prom at my HS happened when I was there.

Indeed. It tends to be a criticism levelled by joe rogan type fanboys because some right wing agitator had their talk cancelled at some random university. As if that's a precursor to a 1984-esque dystopia. It's embarrassing.

Just imagine having to defend that position to your grandkids in 20 years time if populism and authoritarianism really do take hold, climate denialism has led to irreversible damage with extreme weather now commonplace...

"So, what happened, how could you vote for this? How could you allow this to happen? Why didn't you stop it? Did you not care about us?"

"Well, kid, I used to be a liberal, but then these ****ers cancelled an episode of Fawlty Towers and I just couldn't let that stand. No decent human being would."

Yeah, it's just a total ignorance of history. One of my main mentors at work was in grad school during Vietnam and got politely told by his advisor to stop going to some students against the war in Vietnam group's meetings because some government guy controlling the funding complained about it. He was like 22 and not remotely important, but these groups were being monitored to the extent that they knew he went. We weren't perfect with respect to people speaking out against the war in Iraq, but we did a hell of a lot better than with Vietnam.

So, goalie misappropriates a culture for his mask, is told about it, vows to change it and work with the local indigenous community while continuing to make millions of dollars... what exactly is the cancel here?

Calling out racism and related things is the great scourge of our time. Not the racism, of course. Just talking about it.

White people in the West should be able to appropriate any culture we want in any way we want. It's our birthright.

The only true offense is white people being offended by losing our birthright.

If a while person offends an indigenous person through cartoonish cultural appropriation, that indigenous person just needs to suck it up and stop whining - lest they incur infinitely more whining from the right-wing grievance machine.

As Trump said: You are a victim. I am a victim. Everyone here is a victim.

Purely symbolic but Paul Mitchell has changed his affiliation from Republican to Independent in response to GOP attempts to undermine confidence in elections.

So Bill Bar resigned so his name won't be stamped on all the incoming pardons?
ex-President Trump Quote
12-14-2020 , 07:31 PM
Barr knew that Trump was one twitter rant away from firing him. Once Trump found the stones to do so then would follow the smears and then the hate and threats by the Trump mob.

By taking control of this and instead resigning but with a slobbering praise exit BJ for Trump, he has likely avoided almost all of that drama and instead left on his own terms.

it is a smart move by Barr.

(i still expect Trump to take some potshots in the coming days)
