Does Whining About Political Correctness in a Racism Debate Correlate to Being a Racist? Does Whining About Political Correctness in a Racism Debate Correlate to Being a Racist?

Like my favorite word ******.
I'm not sure what 'were did originate' means, I assume that was a typo.

Regarding your favorite word, '******', Wikipedia mentions this...

Quote:
...The terms used for this condition are subject to a process called the euphemism treadmill. This means that whatever term is chosen for this condition, it eventually becomes perceived as an insult. The terms mental ******ation and mentally ******ed were invented in the middle of the 20th century to replace the previous set of terms, which were deemed to have become offensive. By the end of the 20th century, these terms themselves have come to be widely seen as disparaging, politically incorrect, and in need of replacement. The term intellectual disability is now preferred by most advocates and researchers in most English-speaking countries...
Words change over time. This has happened long before that right-wing advertising agency coined the pejorative phrase 'PC' a few years ago. Again, changing the names of things doesn't change what they are... and it certainly doesn't change any 'goal posts'.

So... what did you mean when you said "PC is goalpost shifting" ??

I feel this is an important thing to note, actually. The "down with PC" crowd, I think, doesn't quite get this. It's a sort of egocentric, I'm the hero of my own world, too cool for school type that really gets buggered up about having to respect others and their cultures or preferences.

It reminds me of a brilliant Dylan Moran bit:

up to about 35 seconds or so

Oh, and of course I have no problem with obscenities. (I don't think you were saying I did) I just like to try to come up with words or combos that give the same sort of guttural satisfaction when you utter them. I feel like 'f*** ass' does a good job of it. It's helped me lessen my dependence on b****.

The Chris Rock video brings up a point I have thought of often but never written. Which is that the use of a racial slur in an argument doesn't necessarily mean that the person using it is a racist. I have never used one but I know people who have and sometimes its only for the reason Chris Rock points out. They are saying whatever they can think of that will bother the other person the most.

I guess if we're are going to use youtube for education...

This is probably a joke, but how should I now? I only think it is a joke because nobody of you actually said something about it explicitly and I trust you guys for calling out the tiniest inclination towards racism. So anais saying that he thinks the worst of random people posting on the internet, he obv. thinks DS is not a random poster and sure as hell isn't just racist by typing a racist joke.

And Mat saying

Well I disagree with that, but lets say it is true.

a) So how is DS not a random anonymous person on the internet to a new reader of 2+2 who doesn't understand the colouring system and thinks like anais or Mat?

b) Why is this different for green or black coloured people getting read by regs of another subforum?

c) Let's say I assemble the 10 worst DS jokes and call them racist? (Not saying he has any in my eyes, but in the eyes of somebody random or somebody not posting in the relevant subforums.) What then?

And to the OP. It might correlate in the US or places, where PC is important because calling somebody racist (which correlates with having a Racism debate, I guess) correlates with the most obvious (stupid) defence against it (I guess).

Yes it would be. But I (me personally) do not think he has any. I (somebody in my hypothetical) might though.

So you think he was being serious and did not call him out edit: this time? You did on the whole geeks thing. So of course this makes you a nerd? (I just try to follow forum logic here:-). No serious question: So you not calling anybody out all the time makes you what? Used to this kind of argument and accepting it for what it is?

Couldn't everyone just reread Huckleberry Finn? (mostly in reference to swissmiss and Mat's posts above).

You know, the moment I get all your references I will die happily.

What? It is evidence of racism to subsume all spanish speaking brownish people under the label of "Mexican" after all. Why should a racist know anything about geography?

What I meant was it's going to be hard to find the posts that are actually jokes if that was a serious post. I'm pretty sure he claimed he was serious about that post, if not my bad.

I didn't say he didn't call him out. I was merely talking about the types of posts he makes. As for the bold, I have no idea what you're trying to say.

I do not think he prefaced it by: I am serious now, even if I am not most of the time.
09-19-2014 , 04:05 PM
He clarified later that it was when everyone was like wtf?

Ok, so wait. What do you mean by this:

So you take all his posts to be serious, no? Because you called him a racist before he told you it was serious. But you led this one slide with a: it is not worth it? But ok: not your bad.
09-19-2014 , 04:17 PM
I'm not sure how you'd come to the conclusion that he doesn't preface his jokes with a warning when you're talking about a post that wasn't a joke (even though I'm sure he doesn't do such a thing). But swissmiss on yo.

Sorry. This is actually a stupid derail probably because I misunderstood your very first post:

Can you explain this?
