Steveg45, Please elaborate on what should be done locally to improve the Sacramento poker scene. Like what would the new management do to make things better? And what is the "state of poker" like in your eyes?

I know that some of us may disagree, but we have a goal of making thing better, im still having trouble figuring out your angle. Thank you for you response in advance, I am sure it will be filled with useful insight.

If u add antes the sac poker scene will ****ing EXPLODE of course! People will come from 100s, no 1000s of miles to play in sac card rooms. And because the room makes gobs and gobs of money from these extremely profitable tourneys all their revenues will triple and the clueless managers can retire early with their new found wealth.

The answer lies in the antes.

the wsop should do away with antes. they are ruining the game and clearly the sacramento poker scene is making the most money. I mean Thunder Valley is doing well and they clearly know best. KILL ANTES WSOP. somebody start the petition.

both sides of this argument are pretty short-sighted, but your side moreso, BlackJackPro.

Actually its not

The WSOP isnt a casino, its a brand for tourneys

TV is a casino, theyre looking for profitability for the poker room as a whole

Some of you guys really dont get the business side of things and its obvious

You realize while harrahs is always on the brink Of bankruptcy that TV was the third most profitable casino in the WORLD Some little casino across the street from a dump in lincoln CA mad MORE money than every harrahs property combined. All u guys are thinking about is tournament poker. Thats it. Thats beyond shortsighted

Clearly nobody wants to spend all day in a 200 tourney and space is generally a concern, but there are smarter ways to structure tourneys that appeal to a wider crowd that will still end in a timely fashion. Nobody is going to turn away a tourney because the structure is too good if it ends in a reasonable amount of time. Obviously, the opposite isn't true.

If direct profitability was TV's only concern opening a poker room was probably pretty close to a ev neutral decision. The same reasons it's a GOOD idea though are reasons a better structured tourney isn't a bad idea.

Caesar's problems are far wider spread then the problems that come from the way they operate their poker room and to say otherwise is laughable. The economy in Vegas is even worse then here and there are tons of choices for the gambling dollar. If you switched the locations of the Rio and of Thunder Valley but kept the operating staff of each casino intact, do you really believe that Thunder Valley would be in better shape? The fact that it's across the street from a dump works to it's benefit not to it's detriment.

Finally somebody stating something that makes sense, thank you GreenMile. I seriously can't believe I've received so much hate for stating that Thunder Valley should add antes to the 1 TOURNAMENT A MONTH that they run that doesn't have them. You guys are making such a huge deal about this it's laughable.

Give me 1 good reason why a tournament should not have antes please, or at least explain to me how adding antes to this tournament that takes up 1/3rd of 1 day out of each month would be a bad thing for the casino or for the people who play there.

By the way just to reiterate, I am talking about 1 tournament at Thunder Valley, the $250 20k gtd that they advertise as their 2nd biggest monthly tournament. I don't give a sh*t about their daily tournaments those aren't worth playing in the first place and I could care less what the structure is like in them. All I am saying for all of you guys saying how stupid I am for not understanding business, is why would they run a tournament like this in the first place, slap a guarantee on it and advertise it to get people to play and then purposefully set it up with a ****ty structure and refuse to fix it when players complain? This is 1 tournament that takes up 8 hours a month! They already have antes in the monthly $500, so why not in the $250? Please somebody give me a solid answer for this.

In before " you don't understand business" followed by no explanation as to why antes are bad for business.

Side note: if TV is the 3rd most profitable casino in the world then doesn't that mean they could afford to make a small change to make everybody happy?

Um...okay...how, about we all take a breath here?
It is agreed that antes in general are good for larger stakes MTTs, and that TVRC would be better off, IN OUR OPINION, adding them.
The tangental discussion about whats good for business, who knows what about business, etc....is getting tangental.
One can compare TVRC to CET/Harrahs, but thats a stretch. One well-run stand alone Indian Casino thats in a perfect area does not easily compare to a Ginormous privately-held multi-national conglomerate that in effect can write its own currency (ie., loans, re-writes, etc.) Go ahead, try sorting thru all this stuff in the LVSun regarding CET:
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009...econd-quarter/
Of course, this is old, 2009 news, but one can see that CET is able to put out any numbers they want to when they take a one-timer of 300 million for GOODWILL., as part of making 2009 numbers look better.
Now, TVRC probably compares very well to one of Harrahs best-performing casinos, wherever that is...probably Macau.
We all have a right to state what we think about any business that we're customers at. Those businesses will succeed, or not, based on how well they listen to us. Numbers do matter, like anything else in business. How many people want something, how much cred do they have, will they stay or do we lose from inaction....
So, whats the best plan of action for getting TVCR to add antes to this one monthly tournament?

Just so people know. TVCR floor staff are ignorant of the rules of the game. They don't understand raise sizing and they don't understand what makes a legal raise. If a shortstack goes all in(not a full raise) they allow the betting to re open and allow someone to make a raise. More than once this has happened and then they admitted they were wrong.

Depends on your threshold for smokey. People are allowed to smoke inside the casino. Some 3/6 limit tables are maybe 10 ft away from lit cigarettes (sometimes a cigar).

It's not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be, there's only a handful of tables that are close enough to smoking areas to be bothersome.

agree. They also put the bigger games farther away from the opening. But i just hate smoke. I guess Ive just been spoiled growing up in smoke-free poker rooms here in norcal.

%100 of people who inhale 2nd hand smoke, eventually die.
