I personally think that this move is a great idea. I didn't live on the east coast when the room was upstairs but my husband said it was much better. Natural light, not being in a dungeon, etc.
I hope that they replace the carpet in the Asian pit before converting it to the poker room. That much smoke, over that many years, cleaning won't get rid of the smell.

Im expecting that b/c foxwoods always keeps the facilities super up-to-date.

Do all reports having the tourney area being kept in the same spot? I love running over on break to play the ponies or in the middle of MTTs get a nice loud sweat from the horsebook.

as far as cash I wouldn't mind having all the table upstairs. overall i enjoy playing in the tourney room atmosphere wise.

also I want to run a few questions by some full time players who frequent Foxwoods. I'd rather send a few PMs to anyone who'd be interested in chatting about their experience etc.

hope they add more tv's upstairs then

This! Please take into account the seating arrangement of the players and what those people will be able to see. Like tables 78-82 seats 3-8 get zero TVs to watch and get a good look of the cage. Typically I'm not paying attention to them (especially come summer time, screw baseball) but I do like to keep tabs on college football games when I'm there on a Saturday.

Great point. There are fewer places upstairs to mount TVs - no central pillars, etc.

So I'm thinking of making the trip down on Wed. for the $400.

Does anyone know what time late reg will be until?

As a smoker may you please respect my human right to smoke a cig? My smoking rights are currently severely limited. Why should I have to venture far away from the poker room with my cig?? No I refuse that as it infringes on my rights. I will smoke right outside the poker room so i dont have to walk far away.

Its a shame I cant smoke at the table seeing smoking is allowed at blackjack/roulette tables.... and you want more rights taken away!!!

not cool man

How about you guys stop taking away my right to walk into the casino and not inhale smoke in the area outside the poker room?

I respect your opinion, and the other persons as well. But i really feel this is a straight forward issue seeing gas from automobiles is just as dangerous as "second hand smoke " is.

Now Lets imagine I have the right to smoke at the poker table and Say I'm at your poker table on the other end , is it such a big deal that i smoke?

Big difference here is that automobiles are outdoors, while the smoking is taking place in private property. It's the right of the private property's/business's owners to permit or prohibit smoking as they see fit (I'm not talking about state laws banning smoking in restaurants and such - that's a separate issue that we won't get into here, we have a politics forum for that). Foxwoods has the right to designate smoking/non-smoking areas as they please.

When did I infringe on your right to smoke a cig? I want my right of not having to walk through a cloud of smoke not infringed. As my right doesn't lead to health issues for others.

What it sounds like you want is a separate poker room that allows smoking. Thats what you should be seeking.

I ate at the bar in Cedar's the other night, and they let the couple next to me smoke, even after I politely asked them not to. Wtf is that. Is that not against the law in CT?

"In 2003, the Connecticut legislature banned smoking in bars and restaurants, but exempted private clubs and the two tribal casinos. The state Supreme Court upheld the law in 2007."

Guess they would rather lose one customer - Maddog - than two - 'a couple'. Guess you better find someplace else to eat.

Hmm. Did not know that. Very interesting. Thanks Lattimer.

Yeah, I guess so, except its slim pickings on a Saturday night. But are people so addicted they can't wait 5 minutes for a smoke? She was drinking tea and waiting for the bill, asks me if I mind, and then says she will try to blow the smoke away from me when I said I did.

Second hand smoke while sitting shoulder to shoulder at a crowded bar is a surefire way to ruin a meal. But since its within the law, I digress.

How many points does it take to get a remote that works in any hotel room?

Also, Golden Dragon has smoking and non-smoking sections with great ventilation. I sat in the smoking side last week with friends that smoke and had no problems.

I think Cedars, Golden Dragon, Atrium Bar, Racebook bar, and the video poker bar at Pequot are the only places to smoke at a bar. If the smoke bothers you stay away from those places it's that simple. There are plenty of non smoking options.

Let me explain, at Foxwoods, ( this pertains to the casino and therefore pertains to the thread IMO)

foxwoods is the worlds 2nd largest casino. No more then 5 % of any casino should be "non-smoking" IMO, (poker rooms should allow smoke) If more non smoking bans were to be put in place the casino's customer base will inevitably shrink therefore lose revenue across the board

lets take a look at what Macau's casinos may go thru due to a proposed smoking ban

http://www.gbgc.com/2012/12/macau-sm...asinos-future/
http://calvinayre.com/2013/01/05/cas...trike-threats/

"In Macau the smoking ban will require 50% of a casino property’s total public area to be smoke free. on 1 January 2013 the government of Macau is to introduce a partial smoking ban in its casinos. When introduced in other countries total smoking bans have led to a fall in gambling revenues of between 15% and 20% over a full year"

What I'm saying is less smoking in the casino is never good for business, it would lead to less poker players as well.

I have heard from smokers who used to play in the poker room when you could smoke and all of them fully support the smoking ban in the poker room. I was not around back then, but I would not be there if they allowed it.
Your "it's my right" theory is foolish. I have the right to fire a gun, but Foxwoods does not allow me to do so in the poker room, is that fair?

you obviously don't realize how bad cigarettes smell to non-smokers.. imagine if you sat at a table one day and everyone at the table decided to poop their pants. how long would you stay at that table? yeah its that bad

i have a right to poop my pants in public goddammit!!

I'm a smoker and I'm fine with the no smoking rule in the poker room, they should however keep a smoking area nearby to be accommodating. I was at the table once a gal broke out an ecig just to show us (the topic had come up in conversation) and she was told by the dealer that she wasn't allowed to use it in the room, thought that was a little foolish as it's just vapor.

This smoking ban and infringing on the Kids rights is a foolish argument. I eat food as its my right to do so but I fully support the Foxwoods ban on no eating in the poker room. Its beyond unsanitary. You want something to eat, just get up and go get it. Same with smoking. No sense in anyone being offended.
