I think you guys are over-reacting a bit. It's not like Borg made it 400-1000 buy in. They made it 200 min, which is what a bunch of rooms do and it is quite reasonable. Who really wants 100 stacks shoving every other hand at 2-5.

The deep game option is for those that want to play deep. everyone else can stay at regular 2-5 tables and by the looks of 3-5, most of them will stay in the 500 max buy in game.

Oh and I also don't quite get all the fear about fish losing their money too fast. Do they lose their money too fast at BJ, Craps, Pai Gow, Bacc, Slots and ever quit?? Ever??

NOOOOO!! They go home, save up for a few weeks and come back to repeat the cycle. The "cycle of life" as it were. They don't seem to "realize" they lose all their money at those games, so I think we are safe with a 200 min.

What's not really clear is that when you're called and you're far from where you're going or you don't know, you can grab (well, not literally) *anybody* with a radio and they'll send you in the right direction and let the brush know you're coming so you get the seat. But first-timers aren't any more likely to know that than where they're going, so it's not as helpful as it could be. So yeah, some sort of help over the "that's me, but where is that voice coming from?" moment would be good.

It is definitely tougher to earn room comps at the Borgata this summer. Last summer I got every Friday night as long as I booked far enough in advance, this summer so far I got two Fridays in June and one in July. I actually booked a Friday at the Taj next month, I still get Fridays there even though I've only played there once or twice in the last two years. I think they still get 2-5 NL on weekends there. It's harder to keep track of the games there since they don't have Bravo. Oh well, I guess I'll be slummin' this summer.

Yes. Actually, if making it 200 does force them to play "real poker," that is the problem. In BJ, craps, slots, etc. you have those great sessions where you "can't lose." You leave from the table a nice winner and forget about those other times where you weren't. Actually, almost all the games you mentioned are pretty close to 50/50 where you are losing so fractionally that you don't even notice the money is leaving your pocket.

Playing 2/5 with a buy in of 200 increases odds that a couple of those min buy ins will get you in a hole that is very difficult to dig out of. Those "make up for it" sessions don't really come and your head finally clicks that you should either step down in stakes or stop coming as often (or at all). IMO there is a reason that every place sets their min buy in level for 1/2 at 60 instead of 100 and I think it is good for those who know what they are doing.

Slots 50/50? Craps with those guy playing yoleven and hardways all day? You have seen these guys play BJ too right? Stand on 15 when dealer has a Ten!

They last 10x longer at poker. And they suck out enough that they think they are actually good.

Really at 2-5 lots and lots of rooms do just fine with a 200 BB buyin. And since when does a 40BB buy in force anyone to play real poker??

For bad players poker has to be among the worst games to play, probably up there with Keno and scratch-offs. They lose enough to support the house, dealer, and the 2-4 winning players at the table, that should tell you something. Someone who limp-calls 86o UTG is way worse off than someone who stands on 15 in blackjack. Its probably more comparable to hitting on 18.

I'm a 5/10nl player, the secret is using a temp box that lasts 2 months at the front desk of the hotel. After 2 months is up, you close the box and open a new one the next day. It's free also. I've been doing it for over a year now. Only downside is having to walk over to front desk after stacking off. Might not be a bad thing though...

Spoke to VInnie yesterday and he took the time to explain everything to me about my room rates and how it works, and I now I understand what happened.

While he doesn't post here, he for sure does listen and wants to do right by everyone. He has an open door policy and takes the time to listen, and I think will do everything to make the Borgata even better.

Bagel,

Can you go into a little detail on what happened to your room rates based on what your poker activity was? As you can see from the posts lately in this thread, this type of information is very valuable. Thanks.

Yes Vinny is very friendly and if you see him walking around you can just grab him and talk to him. I hope he can help me out with free rooms in June, but with the damn open I am not sure if he will able to help me out since a lot of players are probably asking him for rooms, bad time to get a couple days off work.

The casino doesn't know what people put in their boxes. Its private. I use it for cash/pumpkins but I heard that people put jewelry in there also.
