It seems that, when the payouts increase, the amounts of the increases should increase as well. But they don't always.
Borgata has always structured their prize pools this way...at least for the last several years. The differences between 9th and 3rd are all roughly the same, and then there is a huge jump from 3rd to 2nd.

That's the way it is in the WPT main event, and that's the way it is in their $100+20 daily tourneys. I hate it, and I can't understand it, but obviously someone thinks that's how it should be.

I think that you missed my point:

6th is $38,633 more than 7th.
5th is only $31,914 more than 6th.
4th is only $28,555 more than 5th.

For a few spots, the increases decrease in size.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the following to be true following my visit there last wknd:

5-10 is capped at 2k, dunno the min.

10-20 is min 1k, max 5k.

10-25 and up are 100bb min (which is great, no shortstackers) and uncapped.

Is this really what bothers you about the structure? It's a little strange, but these differences are tiny compared to the differences between 2nd/3rd and all jumps further down. Certainly they are nothing compared to the WSOP, which has like a $400K difference b/w 9th and 10th, but only a $30K difference b/w 8th and 9th.

Thanks Stan!

I had my first ever trip to Borgata on 9/7 - 9/8, and it was awesome. What a great poker room! I was on a motorcycle trip, an ddue to some unplanned maint. I had to get done I didn't get in as many hours as I wanted, but it was great while I was there. I got 3 sessions of 1/2 NLHE in for a total of about 19 hours (and I forgot to card out on one of them...ugh. I ended up about $900 to the good, so that was awesome. Man, the games get much tougher at night.

Anyway, I will be back soon for sure...thanks Stan!

Stan, I played in the pink o8 game over the weakend and was somewhat disappointed by the way the game is run. The chopping of the splits down to whites slows the game to a crawl. Half the time the dealers didn't know what to do because the whites were still not even. The regs would argue with each other about who got the extra 50 cents. We were getting about 12 hands a down. It was brutal.

I always told the dealer that a pink equals a white at the end, and that usually gets to split good. At worst, one guy gets $1.50 more than another. If there's just one pink left at the end with no other whites (rare?), then one guy gets $2.50. Whatever.

Doesn't seem hard to me, but may be confusing to those who are new to splitting pinks.

We just sent out some training material so that we are on the same page. Please give us some time to get it right.

Every time I have played in this game, the chopping has been done inconsistently...varying from hand to hand, often based on the whims of the players in the hand. One time we asked two floor people about the proper procedure, and got opposite responses. We appealed to Stan, who told us to chop two pinks into five whites, but this decree didn't really stick for very long.

I really wish they would just time charge the game and keep the pots 100% pink.
Nevertheless, it is a fun game to play in, and it is great to see more mid-stakes non-NLHE options being spread.

I agree that there should be a standard chopping rule...with players cooperating and not getting salty about getting $1 or $1.50 less. It's a pink game, it's semi-unorthodox...and it's fun as h*ll. Roll with it.

I do disagree with you about the time charge though. Even with a standard chop rule (which would save arguing time) it's still an omaha split pot game. There will be rotations where 12 hands get played. I still like the 5% rake up to $4....and even when dealers get more comfortable with it, I'm in favor of keeping it that way.

It's really not that difficult to pull 2 pinks and turn into 5 whites, to make the chop. As Stan mentioned, it's just a training issue and once they get used to it, it will go much smoother. This has been the standard chop method, since the game was created at the Trop, years ago.
