Sure would be great if someone put all this useful info together somewhere we could all find it when we needed it...

Thanks. I'm good with
Finite numbers but not
With mathematical equations
Unless they are written in
The format: tier points = 75n
Where n = comps/hour.
If memory serves,
That's the same
Number of comps/hour
for 1-2 NL as a few years ago
And THE same number of hours
Necessary to get the black
Card, but in the new system
The color is gold and the
Price of the buffet went up
2.5 comps for the gold card members

Your memory is correct. You need to earn the same amount of comp dollars under MGM as before to earn a gold card.

I am close to reaching platinum but I don't see any meaningful benefits. Am I missing something here?

The only thing that might be useful is being able to match status higher with other casinos.

you skip the lines including gold card members. otherwise as far as i can tell it's pretty useless.

Maybe free Opus Suite? But I think it gets first dibs on concerts and I think there's a lounge someplace for high limit players. Guessing you play pit games too?

For all the comp veterans, assuming this is my first visit to borgata, how would you guys go about the lodging there? I see many posts about the comp structure for getting free rooms, so I was wondering if I was staying one week, what would be the optimal way to stay?

For example, would it be best to book three nights at a nearby hotel, play a bunch of poker over those days, and attempt to stay 4 days between sun-thurs?

I'm 35000 tier points away from Platinum. This is roughly 300 hours of 1/2 or 200 hours of 2/5.

Is it possible to earn these tier points via video poker, and if so, does it make sense to do so?

Are there any good links and resources you guys can point me to where I can research this?

I would think last year's answer (re 28k TCs) still applies. (Though there's no upcoming 10x bonus day in the current promos listed.)

Each $200 bet at VP should be 1 Express Comp, and it's the same 75 TCs per Express Comp as poker. You have to earn at least 5 ECs to get any, but I think you still get the TCs if you don't meet that.

Whether or not Platinum is a worthwhile goal sounds like it depends on how much time you spend waiting in lines there, and how much importance you place on the entertainment opportunities (shows, pool, spa). The benefits chart (click on Borgata at the top) doesn't make a great case for it.

Room offers aren't immediate, so on your first visit, you won't have anything. If you're playing high limit, I don't know how much discretion the host in the back has to accommodate new players once they've logged some hours, but that's probably the only possibility.

there are some 5x days coming up so if you grind on those days you'll be more or less theo breakeven playing near optimal 9-6 JoB (maybe slightly positive due to the offers you're going to get after putting up 35K pts worth of volume in a few days)

just make sure you know what you're getting yourself into - you can easily torch $5K chasing platinum like that (or win $5K if you bink a royal)

What level blackjack and for how many hours would I need to play in order to earn a gold in a few weekends?

Legitimately? Bet purple chip+ all night long and a couple of nights will do it.

But pit bosses have a lot of discretion awarding tiers - my buddy got one (Borgata black at the time) a couple of years back after he got absolutely massacred one night betting $100/hand for a few hours.

If you bet black chip on Tue afternoon, sneak chips off the table and lament your losses loudly enough your chances go way up.

I used to be an expert at the comp system here, pre-MGM. I have searched this thread and can't find my answer, but I apologize if I missed it in here.

I have a Vegas trip coming up that will 100% earn me back into at least gold status MLife. (probably Bellagio) Will Borgata honor that status at Amphora if I present an MLife gold that I earned at Bellagio? Their site is down and their hold times are absurd right now.

Yes. The card you would show at Bellagio for comps is the same card you would show at Borgata for comps. The comp balances will be separate though (I believe still).

Thanks for this quick answer. (and for your avatar)

Just to clarify for my autism: So you're saying my one card will carry 2 balances, one of which will show depending upon where's its swiped?

Ish, yes. Poker comps at Bellagio (and all other MGM properties) aren't Express Comps, so they don't combine with your Borgata poker comps, which are.

Borgata comps are grandfathered in. They are different than any other MGM property to my best knowledge.

Because the borgata comps were always automatically linked to your card to be good at anything at borgata like they used to be before MGM took it over, one of the deals they had with borgata were that they would keep comps the exact same as they were before it was an mgm property. Who knows how long it will be this way for, but it seems like they at least didn't mess with the comp system yet.

At all other properties you need to go to the floor and have the comps loaded on your card. At borgata they are already pre loaded and they are good on anything in the whole casino. Every other Mgm property they are only good at certain food outlets. You will need to ask the casino floor for more information at each different MGM casino but they generally don't transfer like express comps do.
