I'm confused by this as well. It seems Steve has made no in game adjustments regarding his getting beat on the buzzer whenever he and Julia both know te answer. Roger if you are still around maybe you can chime in. I mean he is constantly late, try something different

She really is running too good. Up against major fish in most games, then somehow her slowness on the buzzer is fast enough against the minority of opponents who can actually compete. Of course she hits all the DDs when her opponent would surely have gone all in had he gotten it. Unreal.

Slow on the buzzer. Steve is visibly frustrated every time she rings in before him. I hate to say it: though I don't think Julia is particularly broad in her knowledge base, she seems to know well precisely the types of categories they ask about on this show. That or she's just running very well with the question sets she happens to be getting.

Wagering is still god-awful though. Here's a chance for her to really clean up on FJ! since she has such a strong runaway (fully expecting her to bet less than $5,000 though...).

ETA: $400?!? $400!?!?!?!?! *sobs*

Either that or constantly early. I was struck by how hard it is to get the timing down.

Either way, that is the closest I've ever seen someone come to throwing a temper tantrum on Jeopardy.

All,

Really expected her to bet 9000 in FJ.

In that one game alone she prob could have won another 15-20k without even being too aggressive with her DJ and FJ wagers.

The thing I like about Julia is her humility. I have a natural predilection for people that phrase all their answers not just in the form of a question, but in the lilt of a question. Even if they're 99% sure.

But ya she's won like 8 games too many. Take her down.

Hey now it's how many games (pots) you win not how much $ (chips) you accumulate.

Julia's wagers, both on Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy, are putting me on life-tilt, as she consistently lights money on fire game after game.

I love Julia. Think she's way better than Chu, which is probably why she's won more than he did. She has more knowledge than Chu and is faster on the buzzer. People say, well why doesn't she bet everything on the DD's. Probably because she doesn't need to. She's so far ahead of the competition why risk it. Julia is the best champ we've seen in quite some time. Nobody has even come close to her.

except on Jeopardy!, if you don't win THIS pot, you can't compete for any more pots.

While I believe people in this thread underrate Julia, you're going to have a hard time convincing anybody here that she's better, let alone WAY better, than Chu. She's won more money than Arthur because she has won 3 (minimum) more games. Looking at J! Archive, Arthur won ~$60k more through 11 games.

The competition overall seems weaker than average. She would have lost Monday's game if wasn't for 2nd Place's boneheaded FJ wager which was discussed earlier. Guess we will just have to wait for ToC.

But buzzer speed is one of the biggest aspects of the game. Ken, Brad and Roger all said so. The difficulty isn't any less than when Chu was on. Julia is just the better player. More knowledge and faster buzzer speed. Chu would need to get lucky against her, hit the DD's and double up. The better player doesn't need that luck.

The funny thing is Julia thinks she is helping herself win by being conservative, whereas we all know she is actually hurting her chances of winning while at the same time setting fire to a pile of money.

She has shown that she is incredibly knowledgable! It just boggles my mind that she has not realized she can crush if she bets more, and that she is not really increasing her risk that much at all since she gets every question right!

Of course any criticism of her will be met with cries from the uninitiated that she has won all these games and $$ so how can you argue with that!

I imagine that's what I would do if I were a contestant. Select high confidence categories and buzz in ASAP, most other categories that I feel pretty good about just skim for words, and then the remaining categories be more cautious.
I think a light goes off when Alex finishes reading the question that te contestants can see. Once the light goes off then you can ring in

No, there are lights around the game board that the contestants can see but the viewers at home can't. A technician activates the lights once Alex finishes reading the question. Ring in before the lights come on and you're locked out for half a second. That is invariably enough time for someone else to ring in over top of you on the easier questions.

Guy next to her was on life tilt because he could never buzz in fast enough.
Steve was pretty good, but he got smoked on the buzzer. You could tell he was just aching to hit one of the Daily Doubles in Double Jeopardy so he could make a real wager and get back into the game.

You're actually locked out for .2 seconds, the rest is accurate. Of course you don't want to wait for the lights, you want to time the last word of Alex reading the question and go from there.

True but you should get your value bets in. Especially where there is no risk of losing the game.

I'm confused. If a technician has to activate the lights, how can anyone buzz in after Alex finishes the clue but before they see the lights? Also, if a technician has to manually activate the lights, isn't it possible (even likely)
that contestants would often beat the technician on the buzzer, and consequently get screwed by being unfairly locked out?
