It's a challenging course that is somewhat gimmicky. A lot of dog legs, and traps and water hazards are placed in very tricky places.

Some holes (like #11) demand a very accurate tee shot. (that's where my 3W came in handy).

Fairways and roughs were in decent conditions, but the greens were in rough shape.

$60 on Golfnow is a pretty good deal though, so I gave it a

Right now, I need to work on my bunker play and my wedge play from 20 to 60 yards.

Also, the biggest adjustment I'm having with my irons right now is the mid-sized grip I got fitted for. It just feels off and really awkward. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I think it will take a couple more rounds.

Eta: on the bright side, my 3W is just amazing. I think I've added 10 yards or so (240 to 250, dead straight now)

52-43 - 95 total
Thanks for posting this. All the pros (read: 9-handicappers and better) around here think people who shoot 95 are slicing their driver out of bounds every hole and have no idea how to swing a club.

Nice report I'm was looking at playing lionhead and will probably pull the trigger now that I saw that it's a good track. I was debating between that and royal ontario. What do you think?

To keep in line with the thread shot 78 today (75.5 rating)
31 putts
7/14 FW
3/8 up and downs
1/2 sand saves
7/18 GIR

Gotta work on the short game it looks like

This is the worst I've scored in the last 6 months (or so), and I think it's a function of 1. getting used to my new clubs and 2. the difficulty of the course.
(for example - my new PW is 45* compared to 48*. Plus, I have an approach wedge now that is lofted at 50* - and to compound the loft issue, these Apex irons generally go longer and higher - so it's going to be a process to figure out the range for each club)

Also, I had a couple of huge blow-up holes today, but also made a few pars and one birdie.

Legends>>>>Royal Ontario>Masters, IMO

Do you have a Kaneff membership? Collecting Kaneff points? or just random that you're choosing between those 2?

btw, I haven't played Royal Ontario this year.

Have fun!

My brother in law has played and liked it and I've heard good things about lionhead so I was gonna take them out to one of the two during a baby shower in July. Just randomly no membership

Considering you just shot sub-80 (a coupe of posts ago), I say try Lionhead Legends.
Assuming you're paying for everyone, I suggest you make a Kaneff card (it's free)--you collect points and can get free rounds.

I've received several free rounds so far and still have about ~2k in Kaneff points.

Always enjoy reading the holy by hole recaps people post so I figured I'd do one for my best round so far this year. played 1 tee up from normal because was practicing for our match play tourney:

1 - Driver in right rough, 5 iron lay up to 75 yards, lob wedge a shade heavy comes up 25 ft short. just miss low. par
2 - GW tugged left, pin high. pitch to 6 inches. par
3 - Great drive down middle leaves 70 yards. lob wedge to 8 ft. birdie
4 - Drive right into trees. punch out leaves 125. pw to 15 ft. bad putt. bogey
5 - good drive ends up in right rough. pw from 130 to 25 ft, 2 putt par
6 - playing 163, good 3/4 7 iron to 20 feet. 2 putt par
7 - hybrid off tee leaving 118 yards. easy pw to 15 ft, 2 putt par
8 - good drive down middle. hybird lay up to 60 yards. lw to 12 ft. 2 putt par
9 - flare drive in right rough. 8 iron from 153 to 30 ft. really good 2 putt par
10 - good drive up right side leaving 96 yards. sw to 15 feet directly below the hole. birdie
11 - playing 178 a bit downhill and into the wind. 6 iron balloons into the wind and comes up 50 feet short on the very front edge. first putt comes up 10 feet short. jar a left to right slider with 6 inches of break for par
12 - hybrid off tee leaves 136. easy 9 iron 25 feet right, pin high. 2 putt par
13 - driver right into woods. try to pitch out down giant hill and chip it directly into a fairway bunker. 5 iron catches lip and luckily gets out and rolls down the hill into fairway. 9 iron from 130 directly over the flag but 40 ft past hole. good 2 putt to save bogey
14 - great drive leaving 155. 8 iron to 18 ft. birdie
15 - hybrid leaving 153ish. fan 8 iron on front edge and leave birdie putt 6 ft short. good putt saves par
16 - playing 183. 6 iron to 10 feet and putt just stays high somehow
17 - 4 iron off tee to left side of fairway. chip a pw from 110 to 10 feet. putt catches the lip and spins out. par
18 - kill a drive in a perfect spot leaving 180. 5 iron is flared into right rough. try to hit huge flop and chunk it. 2 putt par from 30 feet.

36 35 - 71
6419 yards, 71.3/137

I got to play Lionhead Masters 2 years ago and it was a great course. Was just playing a corporate scramble but had a good time.

I usually join midland golf and country club for the summer which is about 2:00 north of Toronto. I spend my summers there. I am in denver right now for another two weeks and let me tell you there's some sick tracks here. Looking forward to getting back I ontario though now that golf weather is there. I've played quite a bit in the Barrie area as well as the oakville / Burlington/ Hamilton area. Whats your home course? And I'll definitely post a report after I play one of the two.

Where have you played? Let me know if you need any additional suggestions.

Have you made it up into the mountains to play? I live in glenwood springs (2.75 hours west on I-70) and the golf is getting really good this time of year and there are ridiculous courses.

But I grew up in Denver so I have some ideas for courses if you need.

We should get out and play somewhere in the GTA sometime! Osprey Valley is a real treat if you guys haven't been there before.

Haven't tried Osprey but would be down to give it a go.

My home course is either Braeben (which I live 2 minutes away from) or Lionhead (which I try to get out to once every ~2 weeks). I generally try to play at different places.

Osprey is my favourite place in the world. Their three courses are just spectacular and it's almost never busy. Anytime my weekend group falls apart (or if I just want to play alone) I make my way up there. The conditions are some of the best in the city and their practice facility is great too.. Their range is massive and the blocks are moved daily and they've got a good bunker and practice green too. It holds a special place in my heart as I've shot my two lowest rounds there; 73 on the Hoot and 75 on the Toot.

I actually played Braeben last weekend; the course was in pretty good shape although the rough/fescue was out of control. A few of the greens were in pretty bad shape and we got lots of bouncing balls when putting, but overall it wasn't too bad. We played the tips and it wasn't overly long, although the par 3s were quite hefty from back there.

I'm actually heading to Osprey this weekend for a little solo twilight action. My company is taking us out on Saturday morning for go-karts so I had to cancel golf.. But i'm going to skip out early afternoon and head up there for a sesh

If you haven't already check out Todd Creek in Brighton and Legacy Ridge in Westminster. Arrowhead is cool too.

Walked Harding Park with my wife on Monday...she: 47-55 I: 52-44. Such a long course at sea level, and the putting was difficult...greens very firm, so my feel were telling me that putts were going to be rolling super-fast but they actually weren't.

38-43-81. No birdies, 1 double.

Much better ball striking. Short sided myself too many times tho and didn't make any putts.
