Yeah Im pretty jealous. Luckily I have gotten out and played 18 but only at a length of 6500 due to tees not being out and who I was playing with. Scored great but 6500 is too short for me to determine anything about this season. Warming up here though and snow finally melted today so I have hopes Ill get some rounds in next week

Drove out to LaTour. Fairly new David Toms design about 45 minutes outside of NOLA. Nice course with some (not a ton, but some) actual elevation change, which is a rarity in this part of the world. Lots of sand and water, but not a lot of trees, and the rough was quite benign. Course was in nice shape.

Unfortunately I played like crap, but I guess that's to be expected playing a course for the first time and facing a bunch of basically blind shots and having no idea how far it is to carry the many, many fairway bunkers. And I had two nice lag putts to about a foot on the first two holes (one from about 30 feet, the other from about 50 feet), but after that I kept blasting everything past the hole because I couldn't account for the speed of the greens. Somehow I escaped with only one 3-putt, but I had to make a bunch of 4 to 6 foot comebackers. Short game was pretty much atrocious, and I think I lost balls off the tee on 3 of the 4 par-5s.

HOLY **** ITS WARM OUT AND I WENT TO THE RANGE AND HIT THE BALL AMAZING

My workouts and weight-gain expedition that I'm on have already paid off. I feel so much more stable over the ball. It was even windy as hell and there was almost no unsteadiness in my stance. It even helped a ton putting as I felt rock-steady over the ball, my putting stroke felt amazingly strong and smooth. I am so amped right now. So ****ing pumped. Oh and there was an incredibly hot girl at the range too. In short shorts. With her boyfriend. Dammit.

82 (par 70)

9 pars and a birdie. Quad on a par 3 that I pured my tee shot on. Misjudged the wind and ball bounced off the back of the green and OB, followed by a provisional into the bunker and some tilty short game led to the 7. Also 4-putted a hole which was just awful.

Greens were in terrible shape with lots of weeds. Won't be playing that course again any time soon.

After going to the Shell Houston Open yesterday morning we went and got 18 holes in just before dark. Was super fun to play after watching those guys all morning.

Played a pretty tough links style course and it was super windy. Ended up shooting 105, which I'm pretty sure was 8 strokes better than my previous best there.

2 pars
5 bogeys
Couple 8s and a 9.

Overall I struck the ball pretty well. There are a couple things I was working on that I used to do but got lazy about with my swing. Got back to focusing on those and it paid off well yesterday. I'd honestly say I hit 5-10 shots with specific clubs that I hadn't hit that well in literally months. So excited. Still had a small handful of bad/wtf shots, and my putting got really bad as the round wore on. Tough, super fast greens I'm not used to.

First hole I got up and down from a strong sidehill slice lie with an 8iron to an elevated green. Plopped it to 12 feet and sunk the putt.

I hit a 4-iron out of some muck near the water on on another downhill slice lie that I smashed uphill like 170 yards just shy of the green.

Best shot of the day was an uphill approach to a green that was 193 yards. I debated between hitting my 3-iron or hybrid and had just hit a mediocre hybrid and had hit my long irons decently so I opted for a strong 3-iron. I mashed it perfectly with a nice divot, a low bullet that slowly rose and settled nearly pin high 10 feet left of the flag on the fringe. Holy **** I haven't hit my 3-iron like this in probably over a year. Giggity.

Drove the ball pretty well - best I've driven it in a long, long time, which isn't saying much but I was happy with the results.

I ran into trouble on some holes b/c my clubs were hitting further than they had been in a long time. I had a shot 133 out way uphill, again on a slice lie. My p-wedge is like 125 and 9iron about 140 so this is the largest gap I have in clubs. Since I'd been striking my fairway clubs pretty well/strong I decided for a good solid P-wedge and just hope I clear the fairway bunker. So I really get ahold of it and it's way up high and lands just behind the green on a berm, it disappears over the berm. I get up there and can't find it. People nearby pointed to it and it was 50 yards away downhill in the next fairway. WTF. I have no idea how it kicked like that. I was then left with an impossible (for me) pitch way up over a huge berm covered in some Scottish **** I forget what it's called but it's junk that will collect your ball, and over a bunker behind the green, to a green that is now sloping down and toward the front greenside bunker. Terrific. And 4 strangers are watching me hit. I took my sand wedge, choked up a couple inches and took a 3/4 swing and hit it PERFECTLY over the berm. Partner said it landed just beyond the first bunker just short of the green and rolled across the green and settled in the fringe about 5 feet from falling into the front greenside bunker. Sweet. That's a shot I wouldn't expect to pull off more than 5 out of 100 tries.

Hit my hybrid pretty well which I'm still getting used to hitting. Pitched and chipped pretty well. Struck all my par-3 tee shots well and settled on or near the green. ****ed up one hole where I left with a very short pitch over a 10 foot deep pot bunker. Scared to death to not hit it in there and I toed my pitch right and long of the green in a collection area. Putted it uphill from there and rolled about 30 feet past the flag once it got to the green.

Final hole was a 515 par 5 uphill. Hit a pretty good drive then a very good hybrid off a bit of a hook lie. Was left with about 65 yards with a direct line to the pin between the two bunkers. Went for a 3/4 sand wedge shot and didn't commit/stay down on it. Thinned it quite a bit but got away with it as it bounded up the fairway and settled like 12 feet left of the pin. I just laughed and told my partner "that's disgusting". He almost reached in 2 and his pitch didn't even get inside mine.

So it was nearly totally dark and I had my closest birdie putt of the day and played a foot of break and it broke about 18". Also didn't hit it. lol. Par.

It's like the white queen of Narnia has come to England it's the end of March and we're still having snow flurries. The cold doesn't explain how I played though. A miserable 17 points for a full 18 holes. I did manage one par but that was only because my horribly thinned approach got lucky and stopped in the fringe.

Thin brag: last 54 holes, par 72, 70,68,73. Index will be shot at next revision but loving golf right now. Only been under par over 72 holes once before so hi hopes for my next round.

Started off 6 over through the first 4 holes, ended up with 81. Hit my new R1 driver like total crap, but the RocketBladz Tour irons were amazing.

Road trip. Shot an awful "91" on a par 70 this morning - really would have been more like 110 if I were in a mood to keep score. First time I've touched a club in 2.5 months, everything sucked. Plus greens were punched. Yuck

Different course this afternoon. 37 (par 36). 1 birdie, 1 really awful double from 70 yards in the middle of the fairway. Driver solid, short game solid, irons suck but I got away with it.

Nice road trip up to Corning off I-5 to play Sevillano Links ( John Daly course)

Greens were true, but slower then normal.

Two day eclectic score of net 65. 89 first day 81 second day.

Sunday I didn't make any D-bogies or worse and carded a couple of nice birdies early in the round where Sat I had doubled them.

This was a really good format as it tightened up the leaderboard 3, 64's 3 65's. were the low scores.

Interesting aspect with this format is when you get to a hole that you parred the first day you could get more aggressive on your play as Par was already secured. Daily skins kept my mind from wandering too much on Sunday. We played an emergency nine, and abandoned play when we heard T-storms. A mad drive back to the car, unloaded the cart with literally 30 seconds to save getting completely drenched.

Played the same course (CC in Rockport, TX) Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Felt like I played god awful Friday and shot 86. Felt like i played phenomenal on Saturday and shot 82...

On Friday, I was +1 thru 6 holes and ended up shooting 45 on the front, then turned around and birdied #10.. That pretty much sums up the weekend, horribly inconsistent. Hit a lot of great shots, and a lot of terrible ones. I had 6 birdies total (3 friday, 3 saturday) and at least as many double bogeys or worse. Just couldn't find any middle ground. Those were 2 of the best putting days i've probably ever had, most of my trouble was getting off the tee. If i had a good tee shot, we were in business.

Got in the full 36 today, no idea on score but it wasn't good.

Missed a two foot birdie putt on the third hole and that was one of the highlights

unbelievable round good and bad

started out +8 on the first three holes (1 hard and 2 easy.... maybe easy by this course, but not too difficult by any standards)

then i went even thru a murders row of holes that would challenge the best players in the world. i think course record of 66 playing this course would probably have been par on these holes.

then the rest of the way, no real blowups but not alot of tightness

so i think a 91 (or 90... gotta double-check) from the whites .... but some amazing shots and trying some new stuff (utley short game... and moved to extra stiff driver for back 9 and it worked well)

anyway, i was +19. here's how i break it down (i think my putting was worse than this evaluation shows)

driver 7.5 strokes (really terrible)

irons 6.5 strokes. not that bad although i am including 100 yard wedges here.

chip 2.5 strokes. probably just need to calibrate the utley stuff. it worked well in general

recovery/layup 2 shots. really really terrible but horribly steep downhill lie.

putting 0.5 stroke. was probably worse. anyway, i was pulling putts and one of my playing partners mentioned. so i focussed on holding putter like a baby bird and my putting was much much better. seems like some of my bad reads in the recent past may have actually been bad hits. my reads seemed absolutely perfect after relaxing. just needed a bit of finetuning the pace.

sand 0.5 stroke. seem to have fixed my sand game both fairway bunkers and near the green.

anyway, things are coming together. driver and wedge need work.

i was playing 2xD, P, 5w, 2H (stiff), 3H (reg). 4i, 6i to pw, 52w, sw..... so now i'm going to get rid of 2nd driver and i didn't use the 3H today. so that frees up two clubs. the 5 iron is dependent on me going back to another set of irons (i lost the 5i in the set i played..... 4i and 6i work fine i found)....... probably back to 60wedge, maybe 3wood too.

not sure how unique this is. but my differential on scoring by difficulty of holes. and the 1 to 3 handicap holes are beasts.

1-3 handicap = flat par

every 3 hole grouping beyond that = +3 to +5

the huge difference = outstanding drives on those 3 very tough holes

Walked 18 this morning. Shot 42-46 with a disappointing double to finish on a par 5. Legs started to leave me at about the 14-15th hole and I really struggled to make good contact on the way in, including a 35 yard chunk shot on 18.

Continued to putt well, 29 total putts with several made putts from outside 8 feet. Biggest weakness continues to be inaccuracy off the tee.
