Played Tuscany today in Vegas in gale force winds. Pretty fun, actually. Shot 41-43 with one birdie and three doubles.

You played in this nonsense today? My car was being blown around the 215 on the way home.

Big fan of Tuscany though. My PB from last year was at Tuscany. Would have crushed my PB were it not for the water on 18

Yeah, the wind was fun. I like having to adjust some...plus, I adjust better than my playing partners and I took their money.

Decided to have some fun with a friend who's going to attempt US Open qualifying this year. We turned our normal 6800 yard course into a monster by teeing it up in the furthest location we could, even if trees were in the way and hitting it across the street on two holes. Had two incredible pars, # 7 is normally 410, we walked across the road and had to drive around an oak tree in the middle of our line extended to 500+ and #16, a normal par 5 at 520. We teed up from the back tees of a 205 yrd par 3 before it, that is an additional 100 yards from that green to the back tee of the par 5.

Shot 86. Was solid, especially with a hole we had a 275+ forced carry into a 20+ mph wind, where we were forced to use drop zone, leaving our 3rd shot 250 yards out.

39-40-79 (par 71)

New best round ever! 36 putts and I still shot that score. Greens were very frustrating and I had a terrible time judging the speed all day. Very little consistency in speed from green to green.

But holy crap did I hit the ball well all day. 11 greens and 8 fairways, and apparently I now have the ability to crush golf balls with my driver further and straighter than ever before. Short game was solid. Not my best but gave myself lots of chances. Some highlights:

- 5th hole is straight 400 yd par 4 uphill. Slight breeze at my back and I drove it down the left side to 20 yards short of the green. Seriously dont know how i hit it that far, the tees were in the usual location and I've hit good drives on the hole to end up with like 125 to go. Good pitch up and missed the easy birdie putt from 5 feet

- 12th hole 158 yard par three into a breeze. 8 iron tracks the pin the entire way, lands and stops 6 feet short and I make the birdie.

- 16th hole 550 yard par 5 dogleg right around a pond. Killed my drive down the left side exactly where I was aiming, left myself 225 to the center. 4 iron to the back of the green about 20 feet past the pin. Good eagle attempt just fell low and tap-in birdie.

So much fun to drive the ball so well. I can't wait to get back out there.

Nice, but the course they are playing the U.S. open on this year is only going to be 6800 yards long. Better spend time working on your short game and hitting fairways. Not to mention for local qualifying and probably even sectional qualifying you can find courses that are less than 7000 yards long. There is a place in Cincinnati, sp?, that is only like 6500 yards long and a par 72 for local qualifying.

Best of luck to your friend.

87 on very tough course from championship tees. so not bad.

everything is coming together except for driving. but hopefully i had a mini breakthru on that. ball much further forward (watch rory or tiger line up drive and the shaft is has pretty good diaganol line out towards the target. not square shaft line as i tend towards). also, strengthen the grip so more and stand further from ball.

my short game has improved alot. combo of paul runyan and stan utley advice. and this is what i'm going to stick to.

i need to change up my bag again as i see that 20ish loft hybrid doesn't give me anything over long irons which i hit very well. so i think 3 wood goes back in and triple wedges beyond PW (not sure how i'm adding 2 and subtracting 1 and still at 14. maybe i was playing 13 clubs).... so it'll be D, P, 3w/5w/2H, 52/sw/60, 4,5-pw........ lost my 5 iron, but can definitely work a 6 or 4 iron into a 5. in fact i hit my irons really well when i go after them very aggressively ......gonna be good

46-39-85 (par 35-32-67)

5 pars, 8 bogies, 5 doubles
7/12 FW, 1 GIR, 12 GIR+1, 31 putts, 2 sand shots, 0 penalty strokes

Hadn't played in about three weeks, figured I'd go somewhere short and easy. 3 strokes off my personal best at this course. Started off bogey-par-bogey, then doubled a 200-yard par-3 thanks to a 3-putt from about 25 feet. Greens were in bad shape because they had been aerated fairly recently and had sprigs of weeds all over. Course was fairly damp since it rained a few days ago. Back nine I played very well--best score I ever had on that nine was a 38, and I nearly got there despite two doubles. Hole #10 I hit my drive way right and tried to punch out under some trees, but the ball splashed into a puddle and I had to hit another punch shot toward the green. Chipped on and two-putted. Hole #12 is the shortest par-3, but I pulled a PW way left and then flubbed a chip shot, then chipped on and two-putted. I couldn't believe adding up my scores after the round and seeing that I only had 12 putts on the back nine; but I also had a couple putts from the fringe and hit a nice chip to 1 foot on #18.

Drove it fairly well, especially toward the end of the round. Irons were okay--only a few good shots, but no huge misses. Short game was okay aside from two flubs. Had two bunker shots, both of which I got within 6 feet (unfortunately, I didn't make either putt). Putting was tough because the greens were lousy and because I hadn't played the course in 6 months, but it turned out okay.

First round of the year (Northeast). 39-42 for an 81 (+9). I'll take it. I hadn't.played this course yet either.

I topped my opening tee shot, bogeyed, and settled down nicely. I made par on 11 of the next 14 holes. I finished 6-6-6 (+5). Crappt ending, but it's golf. I enjoyed myself. I can't wait until i can take my 5 year old son or daughter.

44-41-85 at Angel Park Palms in Vegas. Played awful. I missed just about every green in regulation, as well as 7 par putts inside 12 feet. While I had an eagle on an easy par 5 by holing a 20 foot putt, I also scored a lovely 7 on a not-difficult par 3.

Ugh. So damn inconsistent with my irons.

38-39-77 Par 72 73.4/138 6650 yards.

My first round of the year up north (so basically 4th round of 2013 and first in 3 weeks). I didn't get a warm up and topped a 3 wood off the first hole... oops. Greens are aerated, so putting wasn't much fun, and it was windy and gusty. I'm quite happy with the way I hit it in general. With a warm up and better conditions I easily could have shot around par.

I picked up my newly worked on miuras this morning. I got half an inch cut off and them soft stepped... they were unreal. I drove it like crap but hit my irons really well. I actually hit a flagstick with an 8 iron for the first time in a while, and stuffed a wedge on the first from 134 to save par. 3 iron I hit a few times off the tee was so straight... gonna have a good year I can feel it.

short an 80 playing same easy back nine twice. it is par 36, but an extremely easy par 4 and par 5 (and 3 par 3's that aren't too tough.... )

anyway, played with a super elite player's shaft in my driver. super stiff. took away alot of distance but the ball goes really low and really straight.... i might play two drivers instead of a 3 wood. not sure.

my pitching and chipping need to get tighter. not too much but they need to improve. too many long chips or pitches to 10 to 15 feet. great improvement already but i need more.

as mentioned, 80 playing an easy back nine twice. was very wet and it's all uneven lies so i'm fairly happy with result.

10th - even
11th - +2 ..... mediocre drives and chips/pitches
12th - +2 ...... pulled iron. 3 putt.
13th - even
14th - +2 ...... indifferent iron shots from tee. mediocre chips.
15th - +2 .... duffed 4 iron. misjudged mini-flop
16th - even
17th - -1...... felt like this was really good. nice short irons tight into flag on par 5.... i think this reaching long holes in 2 is overated. usually the result isn't that great anyway
18th - +1 ...... duffed 6i and wedge. was very tired, dark, wet and insane uphill lies/shots the 2nd time i played it ........... had a chip for 79 and almost made it.

new xs driver. gave up some distance but ball goes really really straight. might go 2 drivers. very straight. got away with some pretty poor drives as ball gets on ground pretty quickly and hence doesn't get into as much trouble. wet ground helps some too

60 degree wedge is a waste of time for me. gonna jettison it..... have nice new irons with gap wedge included. going to learn how to hit.

chip/pitch is really coming around. combining utley/runyan....

gonna try my new stiff irons again. was consistently moderate fade before. but alot of downhill par 3 shots so it fades a ton.......

might do regular r7 for 7 iron and further. stiff cg3 (cb3??) for 8 iron and shorter. i have hit some amazing 4 irons with the regular flex.

fooled around some on front 9 too. birdied a really tough hole and a fairly easy one that has given me fits...... full scale 6 iron shank and a 5 wood top as well though.

course management need some work. very very tough par 4 and i seem to always leave my approach shot in the wrong place (right of the green down a huge embankment with traps... left is so much better. easy chip/pitch and often the bank will kick your ball towards green anyway.... i think i'm aiming left but the ball isn't going there)

Had an eagle put from the fringe yesterday, ended with a par like a true newb.

37-41-78. No birdies, 1 double.

Ball striking starting to come back. Chipping and putting better than average. Got up and down a number of times.

eagle opportunities invariably turn into pars. not sure why. even when the eagle putt isn't that treacherous. guess you want the eagle so badly, you blow it way past the hole
