Get divorced. Lose custody. Go to Scotland to play golf.

(Just ignore things I say. I'm weird and I say weird things. TY.)

I was just estimating based on what I remember. Actual 2015 numbers:

Carnoustie 160
St Andrews Old Course 170
Troon 205
Kingsbarns 226
Turnberry 250-275
Prestwick 150-175

Total 1161 to 1201

1161 pounds sterling = $1787

Does not include caddies or anything, just straight visitor green fees. Rota courses are expensive obv.

Also: Turnberry website says the Alisa course will reopen in June. Doesn't appear to say when in June tho.

I'm pretty new to golf so I was looking on Amazon and found this. I want it, but some reviews are negative. Is this OK or is there a better one?

I'm not sure what sort of real feedback you're going to get from that. I mean, if you set up a camera behind it to see where it goes, you could just do the same thing with a real ball unless this is just for your backyard or something (which I guess could be okay if you're just looking to get in some reps, but as a training aid, this is pretty much what I'd imagine the negative reviews to say)

TY. Yep it's pretty much just something to use in my backyard and practice swinging some clubs at. I'm not free to play golf too terribly often but hitting this in my backyard seems helpful, but I don't know golf practice or the best equipment. TYVM.

No need for more replies here, but I did look around Amazon more, and whatever the heck this thing is has better reviews:

As does this slightly more expensive thing, that I hope works for leftys too: http://www.amazon.com/Double-Sky-Pra...a_1_48&sr=8-48

Rock bottom is having pretty decent sale on gloves and some balls. Looks like they have some for left handed players as well. Have the entry level Callaway for $4, Ray Cook rain glove for $9, decent Bridgestone and TM for under $6.

Ball deals that stood out. Bridgestone 330 rx for $24 when you buy 3 dozen, E6 or E7 for $14 when you buy 3 dozen. Wilson staff duo 3 dozen for $28 total, and a few used balls that were premium a few years ago for under 50c a ball, good for shag bag or use if you loose a ton to play with.

I need to remember to clean out the ball pocket of my bag, I bet I've found 12 dozen balls this year that I've tossed in there ... which doesn't include the Pinnacles, Top Flites and other stuff that I've left for the cart kids.

Thanks. The 4 Callaway gloves I bought last time are starting to wear down. Time to stock up again.

Of course it depends some on how lavish you want to be. 5 star hotels or 3-4 star B&Bs? Fancy restaurants or mom & pops? Caddies or carrying your own bag?

As for course suggestions, if you want another one on the west side I really liked Western Gailes.
Yeah, pretty much been dreaming about a trip like this forever, so not too worried about green fees. As for restaurants, probably a mixed bag....Don't really care about caddies.

In my estimate (16k), I just had us staying at the old course hotel for a week and Turnberry for a week which is expensive as hell. That's probably where I will try and save some money.

Wife is a golfer (Division I!), but probably isn't going to play. She's been ..."not playing" for a while now. I don't think we can figure out a way for both of us to play and drag around a 2 year old. We can do it at our club here, but I don't think that's going to fly at The Old Course.

That's definitely a place to save money. I've never traveled with a 2 year old but there must be great options that aren't $300 a night or whatever. I wouldn't stay a whole week at Turnberry either, as plush as it is it's a little isolated.

I thought I remembered that she was a player but wasn't sure. If she doesn't get the itch to play then yeah, that will save you some money.

Sometimes after women have kids and have been married for a while they start to lose interest in playing.....

You're probably staying at the two most expensive hotels in Scotland. When I was researching my 2002 trip I quickly discovered those hotels are about three times as expensive as a standard room. Basically, what you're paying for is a standard American room vs. a standard European room.

Personally, I had no problem with the average Scottish rooms. Bathrooms in all the rooms. They are simply very small.

In St. Andrews I stayed at the Russell Hotel just up the hill from the 1st tee of the Old Course. That's in the middle of town and a very simple walk from basically everything. If you stay at the Old Course Hotel you'll be a long ways from the heart of the city.

In the Ayrshire region, there are tons of serviceable hotels around Troon and Prestick.

You would be just fine with a standard room and would save tons of money over 14 days. Don't know if your wife and child would like it however. That's about the only reasonable way to save money on your trip though.

In 2002 my Dad and I spent 12 days and played 8 rounds. Think it cost about $9k total.

My neighbor's daughter is a decent college player (made the round of 32 in the US Women's Am this year). She typically shoots around even par from the men's tees (6500 yards) on our course.

Pure guess but if you are a female and able to consistently break 80 in HS, you probably get a good number of D1 looks. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it's getting better and better. Lots of schools have international players now. I was looking at the local D1 team here and they had a 2 Brits, 1 Canadian and 1 or 2 from Korea. I think I saw 1 or 2 Americans as well.

A girl that used to work in the shop for be could barely break 90. She got a full ride to Rutgers. I don't know if that's div I or not but I don't know why anyone doesn't teach their daughters to play just for the free school.

I am leaving for Scotland at 10 tomorrow morning, when I am back and its all settled up I'll give you an idea of what I will have paid. We are staying at BnBs and will be playing a mix of high cost and lower cost courses. Likely gonna play anywhere from 9-12 rounds over 10 days.
