Just like those people who say NFL players only work 4 months a year.

Tommy Two Gloves went from being a minor league baseball player, to competitive on Tour. That's kind of my point. I am surprised there aren't more cases like this.

I would expect an NFL quarterback to be A LOT better than the average golfer, and it wouldn't have anything to do with the similarities in the rotational movement of throwing a football. It would have to do with the fact that typically in most high schools across America, the quarterback is the best athlete in that school, then imagine how competitive it is for someone to make it all of the way to NFL. I would expect that person with a small amount of practice, would be way better than most at golf.

It's not that difficult, especially if you play the correct tees. Visually it's brutal but the landing areas are generally much more generous than you think. They've redone the greens since the last time I played it. It's a crazy Mike Strantz course but I like it.

Randim question: how often do you guys or pros even hit a golf ball and don't see where it goes? It happens often to me and I don't think my eyes are that terrible. Like I'll hit a fine shot and I'll look up to see it and I find no ball flying around. Weird. Any of you have that happen?

Probably wasn't such a fine shot then

Maybe my eyes just blow. Other random thought I have is I see pros hit an approach shot on a par 5 from like 250 yards away and they follow the balls movement on the green. Jesus, I'm lucky if I can see the accurate location on a par 3. OK my brain probably sucks or my golf shots do, one or the other.

Pros have fore caddies and are actually hitting most greens from that distance. If you were hitting greens your balls would be easy to find too. But 250 yards is a long way to see details.

every once in a while I totally miss seeing it, especially if the sun is over where I am hitting but usually I can guess which direction it went by how it feels. When I totally don't see it take of I just start scanning the landing area back and forth and usually end up seeing it land.

I find that it depends on the day and the way the sky is.

Some days I won't miss a shot, other days I'll struggle to pick up any ball (aside from my own).

FWIW, I'm awful at picking up shots if I'm not right next to the person hitting. My buddy can pick balls up mid-flight with ease.

You guys wear glasses/contacts?

Don't think I've ever not seen a ball unless I was looking straight into the sun.

I'm the guy who started this question cause I lose it a ton and no, I don't wear glasses/contacts, but I am pretty damn close. Like last year where I had to renew my license I took that eye test and like BARELY passed, like maybe the lady let me pass because I was so close, but yeah, if I can like barely see good enough to get a driver's license then I'm sure that has some effect on my golf ball misses, but I was just curious if many others have this problem. Seems like pros see the ball wherever it flies, no matter how far away they hit it, whatever.

I got good at it way back in the day at Taylormade testing range. Me and my friend got paid to stand out there while the robot would hit the ball and one of us would hold up the little laser prism where it landed and the other where it stopped rolling so if we lost it we took the chance of getting hit. This was like 15 years ago well before trackman and all that.

Sounds like that's your answer then. I'm in the same boat as you, and it's a big reason I lift my head a lot and top balls. I'm scared of not seeing my initial path and not being able to pick it up in mid air.

I'm getting my eyes lasered in the next few months so hopefully that helps for next season.

if you happen to wear polarized lenses while playing, it can hamper the ability to pick up the ball at distance (and also successfully read the contours of greens).

I lose a couple off of contact every now and again but can usually pick it back up before it lands

I wear contacts, prescription is about -3.5 in either eye. I have no issue following a shot as long as I see the strike, unless conditions are really cloudy or hazy or something that disguises the ball. I also never wear sunglasses because it totally impedes tracking shots for me.

I have done some preliminary trip planning for a golf trip to Scotland next summer. 2 weeks, 6 golfing days. What would you guys expect the costs to be? (I've got an estimate, just want to see what other people think).

I'd be playing Carnoustie/St. Andrews/Royal Troon/Kingsbarns/Turnberry/Prestwick

A few questions:
-Any suggestions on courses?
-I'm bringing a 2 year old (and wife). How am I going to make this work?
-Will Turnberry be open by mid June?

I'd ballpark without much thought costs of $3500 air, $1500 lodging, $2000 golf, $2000 vehicle/gas/other, so in the end about $10k. If the wife is a golfer add a couple grand to the greens fee total, those are some expensive courses unless you play twilight. Lodging may also be a bit on the low sides.

Of course it depends some on how lavish you want to be. 5 star hotels or 3-4 star B&Bs? Fancy restaurants or mom & pops? Caddies or carrying your own bag?

As for course suggestions, if you want another one on the west side I really liked Western Gailes.
