OOB has me as a 3.7, but I've barely played last couple months so probably closer to 5-6 atm.

Hopefully we get a few more nice days to play

Can you two play during the week? I'm pretty sure Malice can. This week is no good, but with a bit of advance planning I can usually cut out for an afternoon. That would increase our chances of finding a decent day in the near future. Actually, next Monday looks pretty good weather-wise.

Can anyone recommend a good video for the situation where you are in a bunker that is near the green, but the green is elevated so 20-30 feet above.

Do you use the same type of club?
Same swing?

I just learned how to get out of a greenside bunker when I just need to hit it soft, but I can't get the elevation if I am well below the green.

Well, I don't know of any greenside bunkers that are 20 feet below the surface of the green. That's just crazy, however...

Severely open clubface and stance, full swing. Hopefully the ball goes straight up.

And if it's truly 20 feet, maybe 2% of golfers could get it on the green.

Yeah maybe 8-10 was more realistic, but I was thinking I would need the ball to be 20-30 feet in the air to sit down.

Nearly impossible to stop the ball from that far below the green. Just think about what you see when tour pros hit a shot from a really deep bunker. It doesn't come straight down, it gets just a little bit above the lip of the bunker and lands on the green much more horizontal than vertical before rolling out.

Bunkers like this actually play like a hazard and you should respect them as such. This means play away from them and almost all costs.

when I played junior golf we played a course with a bunker on the 9th and final hole that was probably a full 8-10 feet below the green and massive (spanned whole side of the green and had no room btwn green and bunker). At age 9-12 it sure felt like it was 20 feet below the green and every single time we played there someone in contention took an 8+ on the hole trying to get out and eventually making it or giving up and hitting it back into the fairway.

There is an incredibly deep waste area/bunker on one of the holes at Tobacco Road in Sanford, NC - it might be 20 feet but probably closer to 15 and extends right up next to the green. Of course I got into it going for the green in two (it's a short par 5) and coming up short. Hit it exactly the way you described and luckboxed a shot that ended up six inches from the cup.

Might be the best shot I've ever hit, almost certainly is the luckiest.

similar deal on #6 at Deacon's Lodge in Brainerd, MN. It's a really short par 3, the tee box and green are at similar elevations but everything between the two is 20-30 feet lower and littered with bunkers. If you chunk your tee shot you end up down there with a ridiculous shot up to the green, i tossed a ball down there for fun during my round and actually hit a pretty good shot, landed on the front of the green and ran off the back fringe

Playing match play tomorrow vs my buddy. He is a 12 I'm a 22. We agreed on 9 strokes, but he offered either a stroke a hole on 9 holes, or 3 strokes, but any holes we push I win. Thoughts?

isn't the second one like getting a half stroke on all holes?

3 strokes and push you win ftw

Definitely 3 strokes plus a 1/2 stroke on 15 holes, not even close.

I am thinking of joining a club near me, but what they offer is something like a tee time membership. You pay $300 for the year, but you get to lock in your tee time. So I could own Saturday at 7:08, but 3 other people who I don't know could buy the other 3 slots. You get 10% off greens fees, but carts are required before 1pm on the weekends. I think it would be cool to lock in my tee time, but I guess it would suck not being able to golf with my buddies when I want to.

If you have this correct, this is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard a course doing. It is also the only course that I have ever heard done this. So really all the 300$ does is buy you a standing spot while you still have to pay greens fees and cart fees every day. Sounds horrible

Is the $300 just for one time one day or one time any day?

it's 10% off, but still yeah it's kinda dumb. If green fee is $40 that's $4 off so you'd have to play 75 times a year to pay for it. I guess if you really liked that course and wanted to be one of the first times out every time you play it'd be nice to have a tee time locked in.

Don't know where you guys live, but it can be pretty impossible to get a tee time before 9am on saturday here in Dallas area most of the time.

How does it work though? You're obviously not going to play every time. Do you still have to call in by at least the day before or you lose it?

What do you guys think of tee time auctions to alleviate this? (Where you can actually have a back time as well if you dont' win the auction.)

Ok I'm convinced. Weird they don't offer a regular membership. I just want to find a relatively inexpensive membership where I don't have to get stuck behind slow players. Plus I think my scores would go down playing the same course instead of hopping around.

Eddy B,

Good luck finding a place to play where you dont get stuck behind slow players.

You best shot is to move down south where people respect the game and let faster groups play through.

Yeah really no chance you find one especially one that is inexpensive since it will always be packed. Sure your scores will go down playing the same course over and over but that definitely doesn't mean you are necessarily getting better. Just means you will have a vanity handicap. There are alot of even really really good players at every home course but their game just doesnt seem to travel when they aren't on their home course.
