That course has a serious pedigree as a shark haven back in the day. Good luck!

so, i hit my 3h and 4h very well, and can't hit 5i or 6i consistently at all. is there any downside (besides spending the money) to replacing 5i/6i with 5h/6h? right now i have a gaping hole between 4h and 7i yardage that is really really frustrating me.

no harm in getting a 5h/6h. I hear they usually come in pink or sometimes with a walker.

Would use a pink one and a walker if I'm able to hit it straight and consistently tbqh

Great responses everyone.

I use a 1 Iron off the tee, that was initially carved out of iron ore, before the 18th century.

Know the rules for an OB ball

That should address 95% of the stuff you might encounter.

Good luck and have fun.
Friend got a two stroke penalty called on him for hitting a single leaf out of a tree during a practice swing, when his ball wasn't even under the tree. You'll find some rules nits.

If the ball is not under the tree then couldn't you argue that you didn't improve your lie?

I'm not really up on all of the finer points of the rule book. I doubt anyone will get too crazy. I'm going to mention before we start that lost balls are stroke and distance and we should be hitting provisionals on wayward drives.

Played here Saturday.

http://greatrivergolfclub.com/golf/course/

Shot a 95. 4 triples because of getting stuck in greenside bunkers. Went right out today, and took a bunker lesson, feeling good about my 72 hole extravaganza coming on Labor Day weekend.

I don't know if it was on here or on /r/golf, but someone recently posted a diagram from a book that shows the method of hitting bunker shots that I've been using for a few years, and absolutely love. I wish I could find the picture since I feel I won't do it justice, but the gist is:

- Open stance and club face
- Ball forward in stance
- Club face strikes sand 3-4 inches behind ball
- Hinged swing with complete follow through

For me, in green side bunkers I never change my setup, or how far behind the ball I hit the sand. Distance is controlled entirely by how hard I swing. Again, I've been doing this for a few years, and so long as there is actually sand in the bunker I have no problem being in a bunker green side.

Dumb tournament question (still waiting to play with my first round bye).

I went to the course today to ask some questions and view the brackets, while there it came up that there is a woman playing who already won her first round match and supposedly "always kicks all the guy's asses".

This is the "Championship Flight" and there is no separate women's competition, it's open to anyone. AFAIK there is only one woman in the competition.

So, I ask what tees she plays from during the tournament and am told that she plays the ladies tees, but the person I'm talking too is not really sure. Let's just assume that she does play the ladies tees. Am I crazy for thinking this is wrong?

I'm not the type to make an issue of things, and there is no way I will say anything or complain if she plays the ladies tees, but it seems like in an open "Championship Flight" everyone should play the same tees.

Anyone ever hear of this? Am I out of line for even thinking this?

You are absolutely in the right.

Emma Jandel (now on LPGA Tour) used to play in our City's metro. She played the big boy tees along with all of us and kicked 90% of our collective asses on the regular.

She even played a 250 yard Par 3 with us. She laid up all four days and made par all four days.

If she is in the field, then she should absolutely be playing the same tees as everyone else (unless there was some clause in the event information pretourney).

Would you say anything if a 75 year old man was playing the whites instead of the blues?

Idk, I probably wouldnt say anything unless she's hitting it like 250 on a 4500 yard course.

All players should play the same tees unless otherwise stated on the rules sheet.

A few years back when Suzy Whaley qualified for a tour event through her section, she played a different set of tees. That rule was quickly changed so everybody was on a level playing field.

In a tournament that I'm in, absolutely. Of course I would never have to because someone else would surely say something before I got the chance, and almost no man would ever try to pull something like this in a match play event with no handicaps.

Give her the honour. When she walks up to the ladies tee just say.."Great, I was wondering what tees we would be playing.." ...lol

On a serious note, though, I would just play rather than making a deal of it. It is pretty much a lose-lose situation to complain here. The way you have described the event it seems pretty low key, so don't get to anal about it if you both play different tees.

Others are right though, open = same tees.

Yeah I agree with all of the above. There is also virtually no chance I will wind up actually playing her. Just curious is all.

In PGA section competitions ladies play from a different set of tees than the men and compete for the same purses. The only caveat is that if the event is giving spots into a PGA Tour or Web.com event the ladies can only qualify if they play the men's tees, such as the Professional National Championship that gives 20 spots into the PGA Championship.

Oooh sweet new debate, could In Bee Park finish top 20 in the PGA Club Pro and make it to the PGA champ?

Brock: pretty simple solution, if you find her playing the red tees:
Ask her how she feels about setting the women's movement back another 20 years.
If that's doesn't work, start picketing.
If that doesn't work, start a riot.

I'd guess yes though I don't know how the PGA National Club Championship plays (rough, firmness, etc). If we look strictly at yardage though:

Course they played for PGA CP Champ this year was 7,286 yards.

LPGA played Pinehurst at 6,700 and medalist was Lexi at -14. 23 of them broke par over all four days.

LPGA played their LPGA Championship at 6,717 yds. Inbee won at -11 and 24 players broke par over all four days.

Cumulative score of +5 got you in a playoff for a spot at the PGA Championship for the men.

I don't think ~500 yards is the difference in 3.5 shots per round.

LOL at being upset over the woman playing the ladies tees. If you don't like it don't play the event. If you do play, accept the format and be a gracious competitor. Maybe you'll end up making a friend
