from a technical standpoint, I think a couple things are happening. my tempo is much better and I actually release the club/let it swing as opposed to trying to manipulate it by flipping or holding too much.
Isn't releasing the club on a chip something you try to avoid?

well there are a number of methods that promote holding the angle through impact and having the hands lead the clubhead. I'm not suggesting that the hands aren't ahead of the club at impact, I'm prob just not describing 'release' very well.

I don't mean release in the full swing sense of face closing dramatically with lots of forearm rotation. I mean it more in the free flowing follow through sense.

Hey guys, the other day I was in the ruff after my tee shot I went to hit my second shot but missed the ball completely and hit the ground before the ball which lifted the ground so the ball rolled forwards, does this count as a shot?

Yep, intention to strike the ball is all you need. Not sure what exact verbiage is...

if ur there to hit the shot it doesn't matter u completely swing n miss or hit behind n miss it always counts as a shot

I thought it would count as a shot and marked it on my scorecard, but I didn't think a complete air ball would count as a shot, what about if your teeing off and air ball it like this guy air shot

That counts as a shot as well.

If you intend to hit the ball it is a stroke no matter the outcome.

Wrong...that was not in fact a shot.

Little help here, my club speed is 85 to 90. I have used a Stif flex shaft all my life for my driver, recently bought a 11 degree driver with regualr shaft off craigslist for 50$ brand new. Hitting it very well. I was told by two club pros that my club speed works the best with a regular shaft cause im right at the inbetween point if that makes sence. Should I switch my other clubs to regular shaft as well?

Really?

I've always heard if you set up to the ball and swing the club with the intent to hit the ball it counts as a shot and the results dont matter. If you hit the ball and it goes in the hole its a shot and if you completely wiff and the ball doesn't move it's a shot.

It's about intention. Kevin Na (supposedly) decided to not hit the ball at some point in the swing and pulled up. In fact, if he had made contact, he would have been allowed to re-tee without penalty (note, this only applies on the tee box). Most amateurs are probably not going to be able to claim 'no intention' if they whiff.

See I should have watched the video.

I didnt realize it was a video of Na. I just read that some dude in the video wiffed at the shot which I assumed meant that he attempted to hit the ball and missed.

Thanks for the answers, tbh me and my mates are a bunch of hackers anyway so I don't think I will be making them take extra strokes if they wiff. Good to know the official rules though thanks.

Usually when it happens, there are a few chuckles, a couple of "Nice practice swing!" comments, and the guy takes another swing without penalty -- so I guess almost everyone gets away with it.

It counts as a stroke when your intent was to hit the ball. It also counts as a stroke anytime you weren't intending to hit the ball and you accidentally do, except on the teeing ground.

I would argue that those people aren't golfers

Ya that's what they say, i went to golf galaxy the other day, i asked sales person what kind of shaft flex is good for me, he put me on a monitor and my club head speed was between 102- 108, he said i am better off with stiff where i can get more control rather than extra bit of distance and also measured some angle which is like 35 - 38 degrees and he said go with 9.5 stiff

I could really use some help guys. I have a small cut on the inside of my right hand ring finger where I grip the club and turn it over. Does anyone have any special tape they use to tape up cut fingers on the golf course.

Thanks for any advice

Look for Medical or Sports tape. I get mine from the Pharmacy section of Walmart. A lot of decent sporting goods stores will carry it too.

I'm struggling to get clean contact on quite a lot of my full shots [7 iron and up through to driver]. Must be my ****ty swing. I don't have a handicap but I usually shoot around the 105 mark. Don't go out often really, probably like once a week or so. Any very basic tips to maintain good contact. I mean like only 50% of my shots from 4 iron through to 7 iron from a fairway actually go in the air. Also I literally can't hit my driver off the tee at the moment, just duff it each time.
