Looking for something with a leather strap, kind of classic...i'd like the face to be somewhere in between square and larger circle.

Not sure how much i like this one but i like the colors of the dial and how they work.

Don't really want to spend more than $300-400, any suggestions?

What do people think of this watch: http://www.thewatchery.com/Raymond_W.../8200-ST-20001

I'm trying to help a friend buy a watch for her boyfriend, but I don't know as much as you guys. Never even heard of that company.

meh. The brand is decent for the price point, I'm just not a fan of that particular watch (unless he has a specific need for the second GMT clock on the left, if he's a pilot or something)

Sure....here are a few more..

You can PM me & I can find more.

Price was obscene (for a Breitling) on this one, due to the 18k on it. My wife bought it for my 10 year anniv. and I nearly crapped myself when I saw the price. You could get a white face navi all S/S w/ bracelet for 1/2 the cost.

She's also wondering about this one:

http://www.thewatchery.com/Concord/Watch/0311390

Is this a good brand?

Also, does this look like a watch that you'd wear on a daily basis, or just for fancier occasions?

Lastly, do you like it?

The key to the Navi, is that's it's classic. Nothing wrong with an Evo, a Super Avenger, B01, etc, but the straight Navitimer IMHO is such an awesome design. Make sure you try it on & compare with others, because from a size perspective, it's an odd watch. The actual face is smallish but looks larger because of the under-glass sliderule. Liek I said, go compare with others. See this pic, which gives some perspective.

The Navi is a 41-ish which looks large next to the TAG (38-ish) but looks small next to the 44 Debaufre.

^^ That top one has a nice look to it w/ the exposed date wheel.

I'm conflicted about the exposed date wheel, part of my likes that it flows with the rest of the chronograph, part of my wishes it were concealed (except today's date obv).

I just really like the color scheme on the bottom one...

I can see this becoming an expensive hobby, thank god for poker!

Hi people, as a British watch newb with a <£500 budget, I've been reading the thread and been quite impressed with the Chinese Sea-Gull watches. Maybe the M199 or M192?

I was looking for opinions from those that have Sea-Gulls, and wondered if the US retailer was reliable for int shipping? (The site seems to be down, but the prices in the EU site are extortionate - 4 x what I remember the US price being).

I'm looking for something not too showy or enormous, so would welcome alternative recs in the sub £500/$800 US range too.

I'm not a big fan of bulovas, but you did good. Those are nice looking watches and will probably look good on your wrist.

I want a nice watch with no roman numerals, none of those extra dial thingies that show seconds and milliseconds, something that look expensive and goes for around £500.

Something that is easy to read the time on too. Looked through the last 5 pages but only see $30k watches

I'm looking to spend 150-300 dollars on an every day watch so hopefully some of you can help me out. I'll admit I know nothing about watches but I have some preferences.

- a black watch, black strap, black background

-I know nothing about straps, so for now I'm open to any of them (black) but I'd like to hear suggestions on why certain ones may be better

-I like big watches but I find the super big ones look silly on me so one that isn't too big (maybe a 42???)

-I prefer to have the shape circle and not square

- I would prefer a watch that is made specifically by a watch company and not some company that ventured into watches after making, say, clothing, however this is not a must and if a watch fits the above description I'd like to see it

I am a 21 year old student and I work part time at a restaurant.
Just throwing that out there so you have an extremely vague idea of the level of wear and tear it may go through

Thanks

Mr. Ratface,

If you buy a black ion-plated or PVD watch, the black coating will wear off. If it's going to take a lot of abuse at a restaurant, you'll start seeing the bare steel underneath in no time.

Some people like this, it gives a watch some character, but others hate it. A brushed steel case is easy to touch up with a green scotchbrite pad.

Consider a Seiko Black Monster IMO.

Another possibility, something like a g-shock MT-G or giez.

Hammertime,

how about this:

Today there was an auction of some of Bernie Madoff's stuff to raise money for his victims (NY Times link). Included were over 40 of his and Ruth's watches.

You can see all the watches here.

It sounds like the highlight was this vintage Rolex. It is a Rolex O.P. “Monoblocco” chronograph, aka “Prisoner Watch” since Rolex gave them to some prisoners of war who held in Germany during WWII. It was expected to go for between $75,000 and $87,500, but sold for $55,000.

Nice, even Bernie recognizes the awesomeness of the IWC Portuguese chrono.

It seems that some youth in Russia are having 'cultural identity issues' and are adopting the American gangsta/wigger ethos.

From this point forward, every time a Japanese watch is posted in this thread, I will post pictures of absurd Russian wiggers.

and there's plenty more where those came from...

We have one watch thread on this entire site where dorks from the Television Forum and NVG aren't posting their oh-so-funny pictures of Little Mermaid watches and their cell phones and you're going to intentionally derail it?

I got the m192s off the american site. it got shipped out to my country within a few days. only problem was that local customs held on to it for 14 days before sending it through to my address.

their customer service was very helpful and responded very quickly

Great thanks. Think it migtht be a present for next upswing!

In the mean time, think I'll try out a Parnis from ebay to see how I feel with a proper watch on the arm
