Any suggestions for a watch in the $150ish price range? Something that will make people say, "That guy isn't rich but he sure has great taste in watches."

I like the looks of this watch, and it fits in my price range nicely.

However, I'm a little worried that there is a very similar looking high end watch out there after finding this:

Any of the experts in the thread recognize something similar to the first watch? I really don't want to buy something only to have it look like I'm trying to pass off an imitation as a nicer watch.

it looks like it's based loosely on that rolex submariner that you see in the bottom pic. nothing obvious though if you ask me.

I'm thinking of getting my dad a nice watch for his 50th birthday that is coming up. Anyone have any suggestions to similar styles I posted below or any comments on these specifically? Looking for something casual/classy, 42-44mm in the range of $1k-3k. Stainless steel bracelet not necessary but preferred. FWIW, I have a Longines Master's Collection Chrono and he absolutely loves it. Here is a pic of my watch:

Here are the watches I have on my list for him so far:

Hamilton Jazzmaster Chrono Auto

Hamilton Jazzmaster Maestro Day-Date

Does he like yours because it has a white face? Why not get him a Longines? What does he think about gold or rose gold (both are very popular with older guys)? If you think he'll like a Hammy how about this one?

p.s. Which molecule is your avatar?

Don't wanna get him the same watch as I have. I find it weird for some reason. Maybe it's just me.

I really like the rose gold one, gonna see if I can get a feel for what his thoughts are on gold watches. What model is that anyway?

The molecule in my avatar is a caffeine molecule!

Orange or black Monster (Seiko) or an auto Orient are your best bets.

Any exact models you are thinking of? Keep in mind it's gotta be between 42-44mm...

Might be a little too simple for his taste. Looking for something with chronos.

Quick question: Is authenticwatches.com legit? Has anyone successfully dealt/ordered with them? Any better online options

Thanks

Ya, I looked into those. The one with the two chrono dials is def. very nice, but too small for what he wants. Only 40mm
If it was 42mm+ that would have been a snap buy

i dont think the difference of 2mm is a dealbreaker. esp not when this type of watch doesnt need to be big, as many other watches do in order to look right.

I agree that the lack of 2 mm isn't a deal breaker, but I know that he wants something big, around 44mm, which is why I gave the range as 42-44mm.

If i spring for something at 40mm, it's 4mm less than what he really wants. I know that he will like it, but somewhere, deep down, he will be slightly disappointed thats it's not that big.

FWIW, he currently has a 39mm TAG diver that he has been wearing for about 10 years.

Was just looking at Baume & Mercier's earlier today (not to buy, just surfing watch pr0n). Really liked them.
