I got the Rolex three years ago and the Hamilton two years ago. The Rolex has been great for me as expected and I had some problems with the Hamilton when I first got it. When I ran the chronograph it would get jammed on the 59th second so they fixed that but it still doesn't keep super accurate time, it's a little slow. Other than that I love the looks of the Hamilton. For my next watch I'd like something that lays thin/flat/low profile on the wrist. Also, lightweight and comfortable fitting would be preferred so that I wouldn't necessarily have to take it off if I were to play golf or something so probably a non-metal band would be better. I guess I want anything ranging from dressy to casual. I don't need another black face so I'd prefer a lighter face. Also since both of my watches are automatic and my watch winder only holds two (and I don't want to get a new one) I think I want to go with swiss-quartz.

I like the classic Movado but I don't really understand all the hate/lack of interest for Movados in this thread. Is the dislike for them really unanimous? I know I said I don't want another black face but I've always liked the Movado signature style.

I'd prefer to spend < $800. Any suggestions?
Not to be snoopy, rude, or question your financial life whatsoever; but how do you own a Rolex and then prefer to spend < $800 on your next watch?

I figured I'd get this question. The way I look at it owning one good watch is important. Owning a second and third watch is much less important. In economic terms the marginal utility of owning one watch >>> that of owning a second, third, etc. Also, I bought the Rolex when I was in college and had a big tourney score and had practically no living expenses. Some would probably argue that was stupid but I have no regrets. I've always been conservative with money with the exception of my Rolex so just because I afford a second several thousand dollar watch doesn't mean I want to splurge on it.

I like to generate some discussion on this topic. What percentage of your monthly expendable income or your total assets would you spend on a luxory good such as a watch?

Could somebody recommend me a watch in the 300-600 dollar price range. I want something that looks classy with a round face. Also, i want a black band on it. Keep in mind I have small girly wrists. Is there a way to adjust the size of the strap on a non-metal band?

I've been reluctant to post this. Let's see if I'm wrong that you guys will hate it.

Citizen 8700 BL8040-09E

http://www.citizenwatch.com/COA/Engl...040-09E&page=1

Citizen has continued to pleasantly surprise me over the past several years. Now I've read that some think this face is too busy, but I've seen much, much worse. To me this strikes a good balance. It's about the perfect size for me and has the right weight too.

What concerned me most were the diamonds. I don't usually like them on watches at all. But I found such a good deal on this and couldn't find it with a black face and leather band without them anyway. Upon seeing it in person I was very relived to find that they don't stand out nearly as much as it appears in pictures. The other styles without diamonds seem nice too if that's a deal breaker for you.

I've had this about a week and am loving it. While it's hard for me to say for sure at this point, it does seem to be performing better than the listed accuracy of ±15 seconds per month. A bit complicated to figure out the features at first, but nothing to worry about once you've read the manual. I got mine for a little under $300.

Yeah I pretty much expected that. Like I said, they aren't my thing either. If it didn't turn out that they're really subtle, I wouldn't have even posted it.

Otherwise I like the watch but I'm partial to Japanese stuff and routinely get mocked for it.

I have a Casio Frogman arriving today, so I can't make fun of anyone.

You could just get the model with the same face with the stainless steel bracelet then buy a black leather band for it. Leather bands are cheap and you can replace the bracelet in a couple minutes. Then you have 2 bands, a watch with no fake diamonds around it, and it probably costs about the same.

I very much doubt they're fake unless Citizen makes them that way, but thanks for the other advice. I don't buy from sellers that I can't verify as being pretty reputable.

I went to a pretty trendy/overpriced men's botique clothing store in Chicago called Haberdash and they had Frogmans at the front counter.

I've had G-shocks before but this is my first frogman. It's a lot nicer than the "regular" g-shocks on a materials/build quality basis. However, the module in this particular model (GW-200MS-1) is EXACTLY the same as they were using in 2001.

The 1000-series frogman just started shipping, and it has all the modern features and updates. It's japan-only for now, and it's even bigger than the 200 series, and it's steel instead of titanium, making it significantly heavier, and it's about 3x the cost of this one.

How much were they charging? I've never seen a frogman at a B&M FWIW.
