Schumer rule boomer rule.

It’s ‘never been worse’ than when the gop cynically refused to accept a nomination.

its a presidential power, not a judicial one

so its not like the senate should get to choose who the judge is

they are a check to make sure the president is picking a qualified candidate

balance of powers

You were alive in March 2016, right?

ok biden rule first

09-07-2018 , 11:33 AM
biden and schumer both tried to say that nominees should not be confimred in last year of a presidency

republicans enacted what they preached in 08 and are the devil

and joe biden said in 92 that congress should not schedule supreme court hearings in the last year

i posted the video

schumer said the same thing in 07 when he thought kennedy was retiring

DO NOT HOLD A HEARING DURING AN ELECTION CYCLE

and then republicans did it in 2016, 8 months before the election, but they started it
09-07-2018 , 11:36 AM
did that link not work?

09-07-2018 , 11:38 AM
and im not even saying the republicans are right

but blaming them for following a policy that dems have preached every time we had a republican president is disingenous at best

but when biden and schumer suggested it years before, it was good politics!

Watched the video. Biden was wrong there imo.

Though it is curious how they love to point "The Biden Rule" out as if it's some mantra that HAS TO BE FOLLOWED, but nuking the filibuster was a-ok.

You realize they chose not to have the hearing because senators that understand their duty like grahm would have confirmed him

They could have just blanket voted no cause they didn't like him if they wanted to interpret their role the way wn does

The dems nuked that for federal judges im 2013

Schumer said the same thing im 2007 you can look it up

So great you can say they were wromg but they said it during multiple Republican presidents so then crying foul when the Republicans invoke it is hilarious
09-07-2018 , 11:47 AM
Like you realize that harry Reid got rid of the filibuster for all federal judges except supreme court and then Republicans added the supreme court. But Reid set the precedent again

And i don't blame Reid, the Republicans were beimg obstructionists with their 45 seats just as the dems were beimg with their 49 when the supreme court rule changed

What’s the way out of this impasse, then?
09-07-2018 , 11:51 AM
I was reading the John Kerry / swift boat thing yesterday. My god that was a number.

I don't know. Campaign finance reform could help

But mostly it's peolle holding their congress people responsible

It's a tough game now

I used to research my senate and house candudates thoroughly, voted democrat at times where i liked their views better.

But now i don't want dems to win the house i don't even know the republican house candudates but il vote them

I voted dem for governor because the individual governor actual makes individual decisions

But now congress has become a faceless numbers game

It is sad

I don't know the solution

Several 3rd party candidates winning would be a start

oh eyebooger and this was 18 months before the election, not 8
09-07-2018 , 12:09 PM
if john McCain stuck to his guns and picked lieberman as his running mate, maybe things would be different. Obama still would have won, but maybe it would have eased tensions

or maybe it would have driven the republicans more right.

i dont know

but it would be nice to see votes on anything that arent against party lines

trumps infrastructure bill would be a good way to start

but i think the repubs are not putting it up because the dems will take credit for it cause it is basically similar to what obama tried to push

as trump would say

SAD SAD SAD

btw Cornyn is still, today, after supposedly everyone knows that the committee released the confidential emails, wanting to bring Booker up on ethics charges

https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-ne...40209b39cb7ee3

so, yeah, I call bull**** on the "Booker knew, Cornyn didn't" claptrap

eyebooger pointed out that i was inaccurate in the sotomeyer and kagan votes. he is correct. they got about 26% of the republican votes which is better than the dems will vote here but still pathetic
Does Kavanaugh deserve anywhere close to 26% of the Democrat vote? Is he worthy of a lifetime appointment to the supreme court? Shouldn't any judge with any scruples decline the nomination of a president who is an unindited co-conspirator in a felony?
