That Cincy reporter (Joe Danneman) just said the Bills are making preparations to fly back home? Wonder if we'll find out tonight if/when the game resumes.

Basically yes. It's exactly how the timeline played out on the field. Players and coaches were all on the field commiserating for 30 mins, with Taylor and McDermott consulting with the refs. The ambulance left the field then it was announced that there would be a 5 minute warm up period.

Taylor and McDermott then conferred with the refs again and both teams left the field. It took ANOTHER 40 minutes for the "league" to cancel the game.

They will never get (one hopes) an easier soft ball than this and they cocked it up completely.

If the Bills fly back home, then the game isn't getting played.

For PR reasons, it seems likely to be called a no-contest. From a football perspective, that's bad for the Bills since the Chiefs will now control the #1 seed.

It will be good for the Bengals who will clinch the AFC North.

It's possible it could be a Bills' forfeit if they refused to continue the game. But, I'm skeptical the NFL would go there.

Edit: it looks like both teams decided not to play.

The failure is so immense it's breathtaking, even given the low expectations of the NFL.

They had 2 opportunities to cancel without seeming like completely callous and/or greedy bastards and blew them both

1. Cancel before the ambulance leaves the field. Things were obviously bad to the point where people were already speculating whether Hamlin was actually dead. DEFINITELY DONT ANNOUNCE A 5 MIN WATM UP PERIOD JFC

2. Cancel immediately after players leave the field after telling you to GFY. Wait any longer than that and you now have freakin ESPN speculating that you're trying to save your advertising revenue in any way you can.

Unbelievable callousness and incompetence

As atrocious as the nfl looks right now, if Hamlin is ultimately ok unfortunately people will forget all about this or at least minimize it by kickoff Saturday

This is probably a piping hot take, but I don't think resuming vs playing has anything to do with player health and safety. He's going to get the best possible care no matter whether everyone else takes the field or not. It's more about basic human decency. And, yes, NFL failed at that. Real shocker there.

Pray for the man,, spread positive vibes, and donate to the charity in his honor if you want. But it seems like it’s in poor taste to have the pitchforks out for the NFL at this juncture.

There’s zero precedent for postponing a game but football/basketball/soccer games have continued after breaking necks and legs in half, as well as Eriksen incident. It’s possible only one man had the say to postpone.

Now is not the time for NFL rants imo, just unite behind the man and his family.

only thing i will say is that it's actually a tough spot with where we are in the season, importance of a big mnf game and all that, but still, their plan seemed to be "the show must go on!" regardless of the circumstances. they might have had a shot if they waited on his condition first, instead of ordering the players to warmup and get back out there asap

Cool story, easy to do and you look all noble doing it so it’s an easy win for you

I’m just giving a dose a reality, now is not really the time to get in NFL’s face for not instantly doing something that has never been done before. And in fact we have recent precedent of the game going on after a soccer player was given CPR

Flame me if you want, but we all know I’m right

That said, I’m happy it’s postponed. But some people in NFL are going to have to make some tough decisions in near future

Yep, there was no precedent for what transpired tonight. A player was administered CPR and other life-saving measures after a gruesome scene, was ambulanced off the field, and at the time was definitely in critical condition if not dead. So do you take a fiver and keep playing or postpone the game? It's not a difficult decision.

That's the point tho. If this was a Kevin Everett-type situation where he was awake albeit unable to move, you might be able to go on, but there's just not a modern parallel to "Welp, we literally don't know if that ambulance is transporting a corpse right now. Five minutes fellas!".

Unless the update was that he had passed away, you aren't getting and update any time soon and regardless, 105 guys that had just watched a player get shocked and CPR'd for 9 minutes aren't playing again any time soon.

Regardless of whether you think it’s an easy decision or not the reality of the situation is that maybe only one man had the power to make it
