If KC and BUF win next week, I sort of like the idea of one getting the bye and the other getting home field.

the problem here is that you would be totally disregarding the #1 seed equity CIN had entering the Week 17 slate of games

the question(s) that needs to be asked/solved isn't revolving around KC v BUF, it is revolving around three teams

heard Mitchell Schwartz (retired 9 yr NFL vet, OT for CLE and KC) on a pod recorded yday afternoon and he brought up a good point asking what if this happened during one of the recent Saturday night games. how would the NFL react to the next day's slate of games

he also said that there's no good news coming from the hospital, that the BUF players haven't heard any news which allows them to know that their brother is going to get through this and be able to lead a 'normal life' (whether or not that ever includes playing football again). therefore he thinks BUF will forfeit their game Sun vs BUF, that they'll need this week off and then figure it out for the playoffs. he doesn't see how they'll be able to play football in a few days

I haven't really thought this through, but how about not resuming the BUF-CIN game and adding an 8th playoff team to the AFC and eliminating the bye?

I still like my solution.

They may have played those games anyway but pushing back a week of games is sorta easier than one game.

Yeah only heard vague updates on hamlin so far.

Troy tripling down.

I wonder if this damages the relationship between ESPN and the NFL.

But probably not. $$$$ talks.

The fact that they aren't sharing any specific medical details usually means there are some serious problems.

pretty good breakdown on how things might shake out regarding the postponed game by Sharpe Football (details if it's played and if it's not played):

Boswell's Week 1 fifty-three yard game-winning overtime FG at the buzzer might have big implications for CIN (i.e. a tie vs PIT would've got CIN over the hump in winning % tiebreakers in certain scenarios)

What Happens if the Bills vs Bengals Game is Cancelled? Implications for AFC Standings & NFL Playoffs

So am I correct that both the Bills and Bengals will be playing their regularly scheduled games this weekend? If that is the case you still play the Bills/Bengals game the next weekend and push everything back a week

One thing I'm curious about (I know, big picture) is what the ticket situation would be if Bills and Bengals do finish the game. There must have been quite a few Bills fans that took a road trip for the game. You can't expect them to just hop in the car for another one.

the general ticket situation crossed my mind as well. what a cluster fk

also, if Sam Hubbard is healthy for the resumption, can he play? what about Taron Johnson (who, during the game's opening series, went under the blue tent and then directly to the locker room for what appeared to be a concussion)?

I think if you're healthy you can play. I'm assuming all games happen this weekend in which case there will most likely be more injuries for Bengals and Bills. I don't think you can double down on punishing them.

edit: the more I think about it the more I'm not sure

The Hamlin updates won't be very detailed because we are out of the sports injury status area and into the medical condition realm, which has great privacy concerns both legally and personally. We all want to know but I'm afraid it is going to be minimal info, and less the worse his condition is.

Get one of these absolutely useless sideline reporters ("Coach, what do you need to do better in the 2nd half?") to get a scoop and I'll be impressed.

this morning someone posted a tweet from an uncle or someone similar saying he's still critical and nowhere out of the woods yet (my words)

Unless and until the family gives permission for a doc to update the public, it will be hard to put much confidence on any reports we hear.

ESPN had that poor bastard at the ER entrance after Hamlin had already been transported inside. And it wasn't even at the ER entrance like the signage made it appear; the guy said the entrance was about a block away from where he was standing.

Who could have possibly thought that he would have been able to supply any helpful information? TBF ESPN was absolutely winging it and nobody seemed to know what to do under the circumstances.

if this happens, you have to assume the off-week before the Super Bowl is no longer and the championship games will be played the week before the SB.
