Gameday note for if anyone ever searches TZ wondering

Jeff Teague and Zaza Pachulia are particularly awful at defense

Can't tell who is worse, prob Zaza cause it matters more, but Hawks like to let Teague guard meaningful wing players so who knows, could be a wash

C-Vig, what are your thoughts so far on the Hawk's motion offense?

5 games in and Larry Drew's 2 foul philosophy already has me on absurd life tilt

I love it, it suits them much better obviously, but my Dad probably coulda figured that out last year and he hates the NBA and was my church basketball coach and we lost every game that year. Mike Woodson was just that bad. See the playoffs: Joe Johnson

Defense is the problem. Hawks are gonna be one of the best offensive teams in the NBA

Yeah I don't think I've ever really come close to that many in a row. For some reason, despite shooting a ton of FTs during those years, I never once really bothered to count how many in a row I ever made.....if I had to guess I'd say 60 or 70 maybe, I dunno. I did do most of my practicing outside though, which I think definitely makes shooting tougher.

seth was right on that Jordon Crawford = Flip Murray
Hopefully Crawford improves out of it as he's so young and a better athlete but for right now that's about a perfect comparison

Bucks pregame guys said the Bucks are planning on crowding Rondo rather than playing way off him like everyone does. Interested to see how Rondo plays tonight.

Haven't seen any of their games yet, what are they doing exactly on offense this year?

Speaking of offenses, my favorite of all time was those Sacramento Kings teams where you had two excellent post passers(Divac, Webber) and ran the offense through them in the high post. Peja was such a sick shooter that one year, and it was so fun to watch him and Webber play the 2 man game with Webber having the ball in the high post and Peja either curling around for a shot or going backdoor for a layup. Bibby(and JWill when he was there) wasn't the best PG ever, but he was certainly fun to watch and seemed to fit in with their offense. Christie as the defensive stopper/offensive role player, Bobby Jackson as sixth man scorer.....God, I love that team. Probably my favorite team of all time actually. Kinda sad, but I just don't feel all that connected to any Wizards team since they've all been so bad.

Woodson just ran a lot of weakside isolation for Johnson/Crawford. He ran some motion-ish offense the rest of the time, but this year they are running a pretty straight forward motion offense all of the time, using Smith a lot more for high screens and looking to get Marvin and JJ open jumpshots rather than asking them to create man-on-man or in the post. There's been very little posting up, even to Horford.

Just a ton of screening, which is leading to the JSmoove jumpshot extravaganza discussed.

Motion suits Atlanta though, Horford and Smith just move better and outwork most matchups and Atlanta has a lot of nice outside shooting.

Also the blogs say they are switching much less on D, but you'd never know that if you watched this disaster of a defensive outing

Yeah, I think that a big discovery that Keith made through his work was that its better to have an offense's scoring come from guards and letting the big men get lots of o-rebounds.

I've always thought that a team could get away with this if they had a great rebounding SF. For example, I've argued that Dirk shooting a lot of midrange shots(and midrange shots from big men and even worse for o-rebounding purposes) doesn't hurt the Mavs as much as other teams due to the presence of above average o-rebounders at other positions like Kidd and Marion(although with them both aging significantly this is clearly less true than is past seasons). In fact maybe the fact that Kidd/Marion are declining at o-rebounding is one of the reasons why the Mavs have had Dirk shoot less 3s and more midrange jumpers in recent years.

Random note from the Laker's game last night:

Phil must really hate Sasha. He was the last role player to get any burn and he puts him in with 5 sec to go in the first half (lol) and not again until 3 min to go in the game. Lakers were up by 30 at one point. One of those moments where it would have been less disrespectful to just sit him instead of playing him.

rivers gonna back kg regardless but he aint gonna say he heard it and lie imo

http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/th...rnetts-account

Doc Rivers said he was standing next to Kevin Garnett when he said whatever it was that he said to Charlie Villanueva Tuesday night and the coach stands by his player's account. "I’m not going to go off on a tangent on this whole thing," Rivers said. "I actually heard what Kevin said. I was standing right there. What he released is what he said. I’m going to leave it at that."

Villanueva wrote on his Twitter account: "KG called me a cancer patient."

Garnett responded in a statement: "My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact ‘You are cancerous to your team and our league.’"

Rivers didn't care for the way Villanueva handled the situation. "I used to play and I can’t imagine us running and talking about what was said,' Rivers said. He then joked, "Larry [Bird] has said some terrible stuff to me and I’m still hurt by it. There are times when guys do cross the line, but you get over that too. I don’t think talking about what guys said during the game... I just don’t find a place for it."

and bird man such a trashtalking redneck lol.

Great in the East, virtually non-existent in the west. As of right now, I'd have them no higher than 11th in the conference.
