and that may have been the worst performance of silva's career. dude's gotta stop

i mean, too short to really definitively he fought horribly, but he came out flailing with horrible punches and then just got raped for a good 10 seconds. terrible

edit: lmao @ the old ass usher smiling and dancing in the ring right behind faber

yeah cruz-faber was great

i thought cruz edged it, but it was one of those fights where there was no loser

what? There was a pretty clear loser in that fight.

I wouldn't like to see a third fight between these two but there's nothing interesting in that division.

Cruz needs to move up now, cleared out that division. Aldo would be fun.

There's still Mighty Mouse for Cruz to fight.

Also, Bowles. He's 10-1 and his only ever loss was to Cruz, where he broke his hand in the first round of the fight. He deserves another chance imo.

My wife wants to spit every time she hears Chael's name. I told her about that and she sat there pissed at me because I made her laugh with what he'd said.

1-1 v faber and won a very competitive/close fight, not really something to just close the book on

i really really doubt he would beat aldo. not really based on anything except me thinking aldo is the best in the division

I really can't understand how people saw the most recent Faber fight as close. Cruz dominated him in every department. As much as Goldie and Rogan were clearly told to sell Faber, he looked completely controlled by Cruz.

I really doubt he would beat Aldo too, I think the Hominick fight will have been a bit of a wake up call to him and whoever is next is gonna get a battering.

Agreed that Cruz dominated. Don't think Urijah clearly won any of the five rounds.

the only thing faber did was hit way harder. he needed to press harder and set up takedowns more. cruz may have thrown and landed more but nothing was going to knock faber out. and i think after ado, faber can absorb kicks from just about anybody in this weight class.but he def lost that fight needs to fight before he gets another shot.

don't get me wrong, cruz clearly won that fight, and he fought VERYYYYY well, but even if for the sake of argument cruz won all 5 rounds (i think faber won at least 1), the 3rd fight is still a must and while cruz would be the favorite, i think faber fought well enough that he could make some adjustments and have a really good chance at winning. there were 3 instances i remember where faber knocked down cruz and just stood where he was instead of going for a finish. granted, there's obv no guarantee he could have capitalized even if he went for it but i'm just saying faber could have won that fight. while it certainly wasn't as close as rogan/goldberg were insisting it was, it also wasn't TOTALLY one-sided either

Whoever beats Cruz is going to finish him, imo.

It's very unlikely to me that Cruz gets outpointed over the full course of a five-round fight. Faber fought extremely well and still couldn't do it, only won 1-2 rounds at best. Cruz has weaknesses in his defense. His herky-jerky style is good but he does leave a good number of openings. He can get hit, Faber proved that. Faber just didn't have the natural power to finish him. It's got to be somebody with natural one-hit KO power or natural flash-submission ability.

That's part of the reason I want to see Bowles fight him again. If the fight goes the full 5 rounds, Bowles will lose almost every time, but so would anyone. But Bowles is a finisher. He has big KO power for the 135 division, and has lightning fast guillotines. Every fight finished except for the recent Mizugaki fight. He could definitely KO Cruz in a moment of herky-jerky bobbing, or snap onto his neck and choke him out.

I just don't think we're going to see someone outpoint Cruz, so let's put him against finishers. He'll probably still beat them anyways, but that's the biggest danger.

All of which was justified, but is enough in the circumstances, so I'd be fine with seeing him come back now (so long as he's consistently drug tested to high hell). I also have no prob with the commission refusing a licence to a guy who cheated, disrespected the sport/fights/fans, and repeatedly lied under oath about it, but I don't think it's particularly an injustice if they let him fight.
Good post. There will be many sides of the Sonnen debate, including those who are vehemently opposed to PED use, apathetic about it, and those in support of it (regulated and supervised)

But I think above is the most reasonable conclusion and thought process of someone from any side of the argument.
