I realize that Obama wasn't big into the whole checks and balances thing, but it does exist. No Sklansky people are in danger of death via nuclear firestorm.

Economic meltdown? Crumbling of democracy? Honestly...

America is bigger than its POTUS. Chill the **** out.
Lol he is wholly incompetent and can do all sorts of bigly damage. We had a discussion about how his behavior will be absolutely disastrous when it comes to foreign policy and diplomacy and there are no checks for that.

Beyond the dumb stuff he can do on his own others will absolutely manipulate him to do some pretty unfortunate stuff. It's a perfect storm cluster.

If this was jeb bush people would be like well it sucks he won but whatever some dumb stuff will happen but it won't destroy the country. Trump has the ability to destabilize the country on multiple levels.

Do you think he will start acting presidential if he gets elected? Thee is zero chance. I suspect if you polled the leadership of every US ally in the world they all would say the idea of Trump as president is awful. Pence can't run foreign policy, that alone would be enough to piss off half the world. Plus I have to imagine his cabinet would be the worst ever. The girls gone wild guy would be secretary of interior and billy bush the education secretary.

PPP has Hillary +5 in MI

Strictly anecdotal, but I suspect good for the dems. Washoe County (Reno/Northern Nevada) reported record advanced voting numbers, and apparently even in turnout between dems and GOP voters. The northern part of the state generally skews republican, and there wasn't much of a Bernie factor up here so I doubt there are a lot of dems protest voting for Trump. I would think Hillary would take Clark county fairly easily.

Mike Cernocuck is doing an AMA on reddit right now, he is SURE that the Spirit Cooking thing is going to bring Hillary down.

as Fly said earlier, there is a serious mental health crisis in this country.

But this is also partly about how polarized American politics has become. The SCOTUS has become a tool in modern politics. A good nominee for SCOTUS should be no different between a Democrat and Republican administration. That's not the place to pick sides.

Maybe WAATF.
That's quaint. But it ignores the fact multiple republicans in congress have said they will block any Supreme Court nominations for Clinton's entire term.

It's not about one justice. The one obama nominated was pretty mild by any measurement.

Totally agree BAIDS. Many of the recent state polls have been 'push polls'.

Simplicitus' Subjective Pollometer 3000 has her at +8, down from +9 a week ago.

But a caveat: These automated polls could be picking up them shy Trump voters. I don't think so, but if there is actual polling error going on, I'd bet that's where it lies.

So we got John Yob's firm (the guy who tried to takeover the Virgin Islands GOP), Trafalgar Group, and Zia Poll with new state polls today.

@ForecasterEnten are you guys concerned about how many garbage vs high quality polls are getting thrown in the model this week?

@jonfavs I mean I am.
Meanwhile even Harry Enten is throwing shade at Nate's model.

Zia Poll? Sounds more of an oppo firm than a polling firm.

His model is by far the most uncertain on FL, NC, and NH (Nevada has wide variation between models where's those 3 tend to lean pretty well Dem). I'm not going to dismiss him out of hand but I think this is where you see that uncertainty really come into play - Clinton's numbers have been pretty consistently good in both FL and NC and demographics/early results should seem to make these at least slight Dem favorites but he keeps fluctuating back and forth around 51%. In other words, it appears Dems have a small but steady lead there, which for other models is enough to bump them to 60-70% but for Nate it's just going to go bounce around until the votes are counted (doubt anymore real quality state polls are coming, now we just need the data).

Personal gain? She's led a life of public service, a keener to the bone. The personal gain of having the honour of being the first female president perhaps. At this point it's her destiny to be the alpha, top dog, leader of the free world, and immature, sexist men (and women) feel insecure with that thought. Even (especially?) as a Canadian I feel much safer with her in charge than that idiot.

I heard some military guy say that the military has to follow lawful orders, and the way he put it, if Trump went objectively nuts, the military could decide to not follow his unlawful orders. Someone else here may be able to elaborate, or correct me.

Jesus you're simple. It's a hard job. Yuge responsibilities, it's not something anyone sane would want to do "for fun." Hillary doesn't want to be prez to gain some perks kid, she already has perks. She's doing because it's the right thing to do. And she's the right person to do it.

Every state needs early voting AND the Election Day should be a holiday.

It's a bit ridiculous to not have Election Day as a national holiday when Columbus Day is.

Either that or they could do what Spain does and have elections on Sundays.

National holidays don't mean anything unless you're a federal employee or work for a place that takes all federal holidays off.

Retail workers, the ones already most inconvenienced by having to vote on one specific day, wouldn't get the day off for example.
