Got this a little while ago. Wasn't intended as a joke, though it would have been a funny one.

Also,

We really should get around to this conversation one of these days.

Sigh. ESPN is so consistently bad

1) Article the other day about an athlete who was going to receive "council" from a family friend. Didn't save the link.

2) today in the article about the Pac12 ref leader stepping down:

"Former Pac-12 coordinator of officials Ed Rush said he resigned because he had lost the trust of the conference's coaches to affect positive change among his staff, he told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Friday.

Rush said he lost the coaches' trust after allegations made this week by a number of officials in the Pac-12 to ESPN and other media outlets."

Trying too hard to get affect/effect right...

99% of the time people use "begs the question" incorrectly.

Obviously, this isn't for anything formal, but I'm still having trouble choosing the right way to write it. Help?

Thank you. Came back to also ask if "as well" and "better" should be changed to "as much" and "more."

"As well/better" seems more appropriate, but "as much/more" sounds better to me, syllabically. Can't tell though.

A/B/C are all fine. Go with whatever feels right and has the desired effect. I would stick with "as well/better."

I go out of my way to type SCUBA in all caps hoping that someone dares call me out on it.

Well, even though all of those started as acronyms, they are now words and almost never written as acronyms anymore.

Trying to get pauses into this line that'd reflect a joking, conversational tone.

I did—for many years—and I can tell you, it doesn't work.
Was my first bet, but I'm afraid I've become over-reliant on em dashes, and I'm sure there's a better way to write it. Any suggestions?

Was my next try, but it feels like there should be something to indicate a pause between what "I can tell you" and what I tell you ("it doesn't work").

Is where it sits now.

I did, hahaha!, for many years, , and I can tell you it doesn't work.

The last one works imo.

You can use a colon too. I prefer the comma, though.

Yeah, but it's not the usual dialogue-verb/dialogue pause. It's because "I can tell you" is functioning as an interjectional clause, sort of like in "I went to the store, and, let me tell you, there were penguins everywhere!" (This correction was totally unnecessary, but I'm trying to be nitty here.)

I thought about that, but I'm a little colon-resistant because I always second-guess myself when I use them. Hahahaha! Thank you. .

Hope you're not counting the six-dot ellipsis, that's a little nitty. Also, I think the "If" at the beginning is correct but overlapped by the other sign so it looks like "1t".

- It <sp>
- period without a complete sentence (might be a comma though)
- "Should" capitalized
- "Its" without apostrophe
- "Its" capitalized after ellipsis
- no final period before smiley
