You can copy from web pages. Hold your finger down on a word until the magnifying glass appears. Remove your finger. Drag bars to adjust highlighted area. Copy.

Not much sign of stuff using the Push notifications yet, looking forward to an RSS reader update with that...

Having sadly arisen to find that the 3.0 jailbreak isn't out yet, I am:

1. Downgrading my iTunes from 8.2 to 8.1.1 (note to anyone who hasn't upgraded to 8.2: don't do it unless you don't care about jailbreaking)

2. Downgrading my iPhone firmware

3. Re-jailbreaking

Hopefully this will work.

WTF? It'll be out by tomorrow, settle down.
06-18-2009 , 09:40 AM
read the thread, I can't access a ton of my apps because they were in categories. my own fault, I know, but plenty of reason to try to fix it
06-18-2009 , 09:45 AM
Well, the point kind of still stands - it'll be tomorrow soon.

Are they not available through the new search thing?

google didn't tell me the max file size of a Voice Memo. anybody know? I'm trying to figure out how big of a file would be created/if it's possible to record a 1 hour meeting
06-18-2009 , 10:57 AM
143MB / hour

(wife just sent me a 4sec clip, 159kb)

*15 *60 puts it at 143100kb
06-18-2009 , 11:01 AM
ty. I guess there is 1 easy way to find out if Iphone will allow a file that big...

Megabyte is a SI-multiple (see prefix mega-) of the unit byte for digital information storage or transmission and is equal to 106 (1000000) bytes. However, due to historical usage in computer-related fields it is still often used to represent 220 (1024×1024 or 1048576) bytes. In rare cases, it is used to mean 1000×1024 (1024000) bytes. It is commonly abbreviated as Mbyte or MB (compare Mb, for the megabit).
you are living in the past
06-18-2009 , 11:25 AM
Thanks for bolding the rare cases part, which has nothing to do with what I posted. A true MB is 2^20 bytes, not this 10^6 crap.

Your computer hardware isn't living in the past..... That's how it works

Your computer hardware has no concept of a megabyte. It certainly operates in bits, but that is completely irrelevant.

not sure if anyone cares about playing .avi files on the iphone, but i blogged the howto here: http://iphone-avi.blogspot.com/

it's handy to not have to convert .avis into apple's native format, also can completely bypass stupid itunes. haven't seen any other tutorials on how to do this.
06-18-2009 , 11:42 AM
I'm giving up, can't downgrade iTunes, having trouble downgrading firmware which I might not be able to jailbreak anyway, I'm just going to chill until 3.0 jb is out.

Brilliant!!

Just seach for Settings and do the reset HomeScreen steps from earlier.

That might work.

finally got my update done up...

probably dumb question: how do i send pictures in texts? i assume that's what the MMS is?

(like i said, possible dumb question)

Nope, that was one of the first things I tried when my apps weren't showing up, no dice.

actually it does. for memory addressing purposes, your RAM is actually in true KBytes, MBytes, etc. the 1000000 byte megabyte started as a marketing ploy to slightly inflate the numbers on the packaging and later became prevalent.

I thought nittiness at least involved not being completely wrong...

A 32-bit system architecture addresses its memory by its 32-bit address, for example.

There is no sense in which your RAM is in MB for addressing purposes. It is measured that way for marketing purposes, simply because referring to the exact number of bits available would something of a mouthful, but that's as far as it goes.

The computer only operates on binary strings, and a 20-bit string has no significance other than on a hypothetical 20-bit operating system (maybe there has been such a thing, but not on your home PC).

If you want to continue this, please provide some source for your assertion.

Someone on another forum claimed to get MMS to work on ATT. Possible?
06-18-2009 , 02:14 PM
Apparently some do have the MMS working. It looks like you need family plan messaging and you need to call ATT and tell them to change the way your phone receives MMS.

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=723863

I haven't personally tried it, but let us know if you get it to work.

Well the only reason MMS didn't work on the iphone accounts was that AT&T specifically added a block on them to prevent access to the MMSC. They are not ready for MMS rollout tomorrow because they have to *manually* go through and remove the block on iphone accounts...

Jeez, nobody gives a crap about the number of bits in a noodle or whatever. More with the 3.0 discoveries and other useful stuff!
