of course it's faster, there isn't anyone actually doing anything on those other networks 3G.

I'm gonna be in Vegas next week and don't really feel like paying $15/day just to use Yelp and such on a bigger screen.
Turned my tethering on 6/18, billing cycled ended on 6/20, tethering data show up like any other data... No charges. Don't know how long it will last until AT&T figures out a way to differentiate between iPhone data and tether data, but for now NO CHARGES are showing on my bill.

I tried reading the last couple of pages in this thread for jailbreaking the 3G s, but had more questions. I'm about to order the phone, but AT&T said I could have it shipped to their store where they would activate it. Is this advisable if I'm going to jailbreak it? Does it make a difference? Do I have to jailbreak before I activate it (don't think I do)? I'm also wondering if they'll install 3.1 firmware, which I read is not advisable if I want to jailbreak it. Probably just ship it to my home?

On that note, I'm reading about both purplera1n and yellowsn0w. Which do you guys think is better? Some people here had some issues with purplera1n and said some apps didn't work, so maybe yellowsn0w?

Thanks.

I think they have to activate before you can jailbreak. Shouldn't matter though either way. As for 3.1, it seems unlikely they would put unreleased firmware on a shipped phone.

For the Jailbreak, I used purplera1n, but yellowsn0w wasnt ready when I jailbroke mine.

Thanks for the info c-dog. I actually googled it a little bit more after I posted that and realized that activation is not really a big deal if they do it. Either way, I shipped it to my home address, so I'll activate it myself and make it a moot point.

From what I read, people trust the dev team, so I'll probably go with yellowsn0w since both are available now. I'm assuming they both install that cydia program, so the same apps can be used with either. Am I right thinking it's just a simple choice which to use?

I guess I just need to remember not to get 3.1,

So I'm a noob. I just jailbroke and installed winterboard. Where do I get new themes?
07-11-2009 , 10:53 AM
cydia

Figured it out. The Orbz theme above is not bad. Does anyone else have good ones? And is there a faster way to preview them aside from going through them one by one?

Elegance is a sick theme

Here are the two best places to get themes. You want the goods, you should learn to move them to your phone on your own.

I use NetNewsWire on my notebook, and it syncs with their server, so I'm in sync regardless of which device I'm using.

Obv. the same is true of an online aggregator, but I like being able to read off-line also.

Umm....a girl i'm seeing just got a new 3GS. She's heading overseas for 3 weeks. She shouldn't use her new phone overseas for anything unless she wants to have huge bills. Actually it's a complicated situation and I'm not around nor do I feel like explaining jailbreaking etc. I'm right in just saying don't use the phone right?!?

She should turn off all the radios on the phone, basically leave it in airplane mode while she is over there.

Question.

I have Apple Care for another year, and today I noticed what is either Dust or dead pixels on my phone. It's odd, you can only really see at certain angles, but its kind of annoying. I think its dead pixels, because how could dust get right on top of the LCD screen under the glass, but I don't know. Any chance Apple will fix this or replace it?

I had dust on my screen and got a referbed unit by taking it into the Apple store. Dust gets in through the recharge port is what they said.

can anyone help me out... been tryin to read through this thread and no luck...

i have an iphone 3g... tried to jailbreak using redsnow .72 and also .80 (newer one).... every single time ive tried to do it... it ****s up.

ive watched the youtube vids and also read through the instructions. as far as i know i am doing everything properly... have all the correct files (even restored the iphone a few times).... but when redsnow tries to install... it gets frozen in the 2nd restore or backup thing. EVERY TIME.

Hmmm do I even want a refurb? Is it even worth having to re-dl everything?

i went to europe for a couple of weeks, i left it on and just didn't pick up for any calls, etc. using wifi in cafes is pretty awesome though. you can also simply get a prepaid SIM card with like 100 mins in europe and turn off data.

Yeah, resyncing to your iTunes is awfully hard work.
