Classy move from those guys.

This is far from reassuring. I had been feeling pretty good about the chances of receiving funds but this is not a good sign. A twitter promise is not even close to a binding guarantee and the gesture appears to have been done to prevent further demands for cashouts, despite the fact that FT and Stars supposedly have enough millions held in trust to pay everyone back. And $2 mm would be a drop in the bucket if they are telling the truth.

Always thought Tom had a lot of integrity, but I really don't see how Galfond can do this. He doesn't even have any vested interest in FTP nor Stars, it's like a complete freeroll on the hope that he's right about the situation.

Still, sick thing to do. I know I can't fully relate, but this guy is the ****ing man.

On a personal note:

To the fellow grinders on the US, sorry guys this situation blows and being suddenly unemployed sucks ass but we all knew the status quo was not sustainable for long. Hope you all get your money soon and the US figure out legislation stuff so you can rejoin the online poker world in a well regulated environment.

To everyone freaking out outside US, things will be rocky for a bit, that IS TO BE EXPECTED, sites are having to deal with a shtload of stuff right now and you don't help by mass withdrawing out of fear that your funds will be stolen or madly emailing support to ask for the future of the site etc...

Also don't expect to find some miracle answer from others ITT about how should you cash out or if its the best idea, chill out, things will get better hopefully and even if they didn't panicking wont solve a thing.
One of the best posts ITT.
I say chill too.
I feel bad for those that have alot of money tied up right now and wish you the best of luck.

Does this make you feel safe about your money?

When these site owners have to pay money back, or if they're fined hefty amounts, they'll see if they can pay out of corporate funds. They probably won't be able to, and they'll think nothing of using their players' funds, just like the banks did. So just like what happened with banks, the players will probably only get a proportion of what they're owed.

Any chance they're going to ban online sports betting? Without my poker fix, I bet on almost every sporting event today.

I'm just not sure that's going to mean diddly-squat if the Feds are really interested (and CLEARLY they are).

For example, here's a link to the UBS scandal. Before this, Swiss bank accounts were "safe": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBS#U.S...on_controversy

However, this settlement set up a showdown between the U.S. and Swiss governments over the secrecy of Swiss bank accounts. It was not until June 2010 that Swiss lawmakers approved deal to reveal client data and account details of U.S. clients who were suspected of tax evasion.

So I wouldn't put too much faith in "but it's the law". Laws can change.
There are two important differences between the UBS case and the current poker case.
  1. In the UBS case, the money in the accounts was held on behalf of people the US was accusing of committing a crime (tax avoidance?). In the poker indictment, the DOJ has not accused the players a of comitting a crime.
  2. In the UBS case the DOJ was going after the money in those accounts of the tax cheaters. In the Poker case the DOJ is only going after money belonging to the poker sites and the named consirators, not money beloning to the players. Read the indictment and civil forfeiture claim.

Gee, you forgot to mention the harsh winters!

These stereotypes bear the same relationship to reality as most racist stereotypes bear to realities about race and they show the same level of deep thought.

Too bad quadjacks stream went away. It was just getting interesting as people were starting to speak their minds. Not much love for FT apparently and Howard in particular ...
