Didn't Annie call Joan Rivers a "bitch" on Celebrity Apprentice? Honestly, I don't see how that's any less offensive than DN calling you a "fc"... But, I know, Joan started all the name calling because she called Annie "Hitler" first. And Melissa Rivers subsequently called her a "pit viper whore."

For those of you who still believe it is a minority opinion that the C-word is offensive to the majority of people, or that it does not compare as a slur to the N-word, or that the C-word is only thought of as offensive in North America and not in the UK or elsewhere where English is the primary language, here is some very recent studies.

The British Broadcasting Standards Commission, Independent Television Commission, BBC and Advertising Standards Authority commissioned a study on British profanity, and published their results on December, 2000. The top ten words the British public found to be the most profane were listed. The C-word was #1 and was considered to be the most offensive word by all those people asked (male and female), with 83% of those surveyed declaring it “very severe”. To note, as I used the comparison of the C-word to the N-word in my last post in this thread, and some here insist those two words are incomparable, the same survey ranked the N-word as the #5 most offensive word. This should tell you that both words are considered vile and unacceptable in the UK.

A more recent study done in 2009 by New Zealand's Broadcasting Standards Authority, which was published in March of this year (2010) also surveyed a large group of people to determine the words they considered to be most profane. The top 10 words New Zealanders (note: not in North America either) found most offensive was also given. Number One on their list? The C-word was the #1 most offensive word once again, with 74% of respondents declaring it “totally unacceptable” or “fairly unacceptable”. Again by comparison since I used the analogy before, the N-word ranked #2 in this survey, with 66% declaring it “totally unacceptable” or “fairly unacceptable”.

In both surveys, those sampled were not just women or any other narrow range of opinions, but a wide and very diverse group of people of both sexes and all ages. The fact that all these people in both surveys outside of North America found the C-word the most offensive word that could be used in the media speaks for itself. Slurs in general that insult a whole group of people even if used in an individual context (The N-word, the C-word, The 6 letter F-word for gay men) consistently made the list, if not the top 10. Thinking that the use of these words in ANY context is unacceptable is by no means a minority opinion, at least in the UK and New Zealand.

According to the two polls I just provided in my post above this one, both men and women in Britain and New Zealand find the C-word to be the MOST offensive word overall. So it is actually wrong to say only women find it vulgar and unacceptable. I'm pretty sure I can find a survey based in the U.S. that has the same conclusion if needed.

I'm not the "censorship king", I just understand the power of language far better than you will ever in your life. Also, I just provided proof of my assertions. Where's yours?

No need if you feel that a professionally commissioned and executed survey in two countries where English is the primary language is enough. Unlike a poll here at 2+2, where the demographics will probably skew male and young, those surveys have a much more representative pool of respondents.

It turns out that many think the C-word is more unacceptable than the N-word, by a significant margin in Britain and marginally so in New Zealand. I really encourage everyone to read the two studies I linked to in my post above. It is really interesting how the demographics break down.

One interesting quote from the second survey from New Zealand:

"This indicates a continuing trend of softening of attitudes to the use of certain swear words in broadcasting, particularly to those words that are less contentious. The most obvious exception to this trend is attitudes to the word C***; this word remains unacceptable to a large majority of New Zealanders (74%)."

So, a woman who announced on one of the highest rated shows in the world that she gives the best blow jobs, is offended by the C word?

Like everything else, namely her "charity" work, she just jumps on every opportunity to get noticed.

And why she would be so oblivious as to even bring up the issue about how Pokerstars handled it, shows what a mentally defective person she is. There are 2 people on the entire planet who can NEVER say a word about how another poker site handles business. Yet one of them is stupid enough to. By the way, I guess she is fine with how Hellmuth treats UB's own customers in the chatbox, and represents their company, right? Anybody have the chat log from when he went off on Matt Hawrilenko?

I gotta say, this whole tempest is baffling to me. The prevalent attitude seems to be 'Daniel can say that, and PokerStars should not get involved, because Annie, you shill for UB, and boasted of your oral sex skills on the Apprentice, and besides, UB sponsors Phil Hellmuth, who insults people. Oh yeah, and UB is evil.'

If you have a decent vocabulary, there is no need to use the C word, the F bomb, the N word, etc, etc.

Daniel was wrong. Why? He used wording, while talking to a reporter, to describe a fellow poker pro that a significant number of people would find offensive.

Annie was wrong. Boasting of her oral sex skills on national TV, (while it's commendable that she has them), is something that a significant number of people would find offensive.

And yes, Hellmuth is wrong. Berating players who out-play him, or who play poorly, and catch a miracle river, just makes him look childish and foolish.

And finally, UB was wrong, although they did refund 22 million dollars to players.

If you can not carry on a conversation, (even an insulting one), without resorting to profanities or vulgarities, that demonstrates a lack of education, or a remarkable lack of class.

If you would not hear a word in an international advertisement for a name brand product, (Coca-Cola, Nike, major automobile manufacturer, etc), it's most likely a word that you can do without in your daily vocabulary.

I think that covers everything.

He did the right thing. I don't get it this whole drama thing around it. He said ****, why the big deal? Common word in today's vocabulary, post above is stupid, I know he's representative, but ****, I'd say the same, I don't even know her and I already can't stand that bitch.

Which is why I will always have more class, ergo be more respected, than you. I do not care for Annie myself, yet I do not have to resort to expletives to express my opinion.
